2023 Year of Whump

For everyone who can’t commit to or is intimidated by a daily writing/art challenge, I present a different take on the whump writing/art prompt challenge, reframed for those who create slowly, inconsistently, and on crip time.

In this yearlong writing/art prompt challenge, you choose monthly or weekly. You can go back and forth between monthly or weekly each month. If you choose monthly, you can pick prompts from any week during that month. You’ll end up with anywhere from 12-52 completed contributions at the end of it. The weeks begin on Sunday.

Tag contributions with “2023 Year of Whump” and then “2023 Year of Whump January” (or another month) for any prompt done during that month, so people can see all contributions.

For each week’s available prompts, there are physical/sensory, emotional/psychological, environmental/situation, comfort/caregiving, and dialogue prompts (in that order). You are welcome to mix and match, use only one or a combination of any or all, and to interpret each liberally. You can interpret them creatively, and there are probably infinite possible ways to do so for each prompt. I suggest (but can’t really require) tagging descriptively to help people find content they’re interested in and/or filter out content in their squicks or triggers.

Regarding your tag... I'm sorry the quality is shit. My phone is very... worn. Shattered and missing both volume buttons as well as the power button, which means I couldn't take a screenshot. I am poor, and can't afford a new phone, and had to make due with taking a picture of someone else's screen in order to get the picture for this post. Maybe try understanding that not everyone has the same access as you do, and would still like to be involved in the community.

I am aware the quality is bad. As I stated in another reblog post, I wasn't able to get a screenshot due to a broken phone, and had to make due with taking a photo of someone else's screen. I don't have the same access as most here, since I can't afford a non-broken phone. I'm glad it gave you a bit of a laugh, though.

Loveee constant surveillance in whump. Hidden cameras in a room, guards outside a cell, stalking before a kidnapping, receiving a package after your escape with photos of you everywhere you've been, all of it. Being watched, always, by someone who means to do you harm.

Answers to "it hurts"

Whumper telling whumpee to choose a number: not elaborating what it's for. Does it mean nothing? Or is it how many lashes they will get, how many hours without food, how many bones whumper will break? Could it be minutes of rest, number of meals for the week, hours whumpee will be locked in sensory deprivation? Who knows! Certificate not our panicking whumpee

I love it! Fear of the unknown. Whumpee may want to choose a smaller number, fearing the 'prizes' listed above. But what if the number chosen is, like, hours of rest before the next session? Or how many minutes the whumpers give as a head start for an escape attempt? Number of days given to recover? Something where a higher number would be highly preferred. And the whumpee won't know until AFTER! Are they only getting 1 lashing, or are they only getting 1 day to recover? Are they getting only 1 day without food, or a measly 1 minute head start to escape? They won't know until it's too late!
