I wanna say something about Pearls in Homeworld being called 'slaves' by fans which is: while not innacurate, I think it can often cause people to miss an important lens through which we are meant see them

Pearl's are objectified but they are objectified in a veryΒ specificΒ way that relates to traditional femininity. Thus, is almost more reminiscent of a little girl being raised to serve and obey and please their husband and look good for him because that is her only purpose in life than anything that most american audiences would likely think if you say 'slave' (even if that word is not innacurate)

Which is also relevant to how Pearl rebels by doing traditionally masculine things like swordfight and build stuff.

And to how women (especially in pre-modern times) are often given the idea that their lives are meant to completely revolve arround a relationship and that idea is hard to work past even after you have supposedly rejected traditional roles.

Tl:DR there is something very gendered about Pearls

I am SO tired of people calling them slaves dismissively...

Michaelmas is coming up and I feel Pearl would like it as it is a very medieval holiday that has significance to knights (St. Michael is a sort of patron of warriors)
