yknow if romeo had just Cried on juliets corpse for a couple hours instead of drinking poison Right Then they would have been Fine

The moral of the story is: always take time to cry for a few hours before making important decisions.

So I’m more or less being facetious here, but this is actually a thing.

Hamlet is genre savvy. Hamlet knows how Tragedies work, and he’s not going to rush in and get stabby without making absolutely certain he’s got all the facts.

Except once he thinks he has all the facts – once he’s certain that it really is the ghost of his father and Claudius really did kill him, he rushes in and stabs the wrong guy, which starts a domino line of deaths and gets Laertes embroiled in his own revenge tragedy and ultimately results in the deaths of nearly every character other than Horatio.

That’s the irony and the tragedy of the story. Hamlet knows his tropes and actively tries to avoid them, and the tropes get him anyway. It’s inevitable, the tropes are hungry.

I want a sticker that says the tropes are hungry so I can put it on my laptop

i met a scholar once who said that tragedies aren’t about a silly “flaw” or anything, it’s about having a hero who’s just in the wrong goddamn story

if hamlet swapped places with othello he wouldn’t be duped by any of iago’s shit, he’d sit down & have a good think & actually examine the facts before taking action. meanwhile in denmark, othello would have killed claudius before act 2 could even start. but instead nope, they’re both in situations where their greatest strengths are totally useless and now we’ve got all these bodies to bury.

I heard my mother asking our neighbour for some salt. I asked her why she was asking them as we have salt at home. She replied: "It's because they are always asking us for things; they're poor. So, I thought I'd ask something small from them so as not burden them, but at the same time make them feel as if we need them too. That way it'll be easier for them to ask us for anything they need from us.”

LPT: Don't throw your junk mail away. Use it to to help the USPS instead!

Next time you get a credit card offer in the mail, or a junk piece of mail that includes a prepaid envelope or postcard, don't throw it away! Send the envelope back with a blank sheet of paper inside, or don't fill the postcard out, but still send it back. The company that sent it to you had to pay the USPS for postage on each one they get back. This is a way to support the USPS by doing very little, and sticking it to the annoying companies that want all of your money.

In the 90s we would send companies “hate mail” by stuffing prepaid envelopes with things like ‘blanks’ (flat heavy metal pieces), a roofing shingle) and layers of other competitors’ mail or junk news. This is because the company would have to pay more upon recieving the junk mail. It eats into them. It actually somewhat reduced our junk mail returnables, I think.  Send that mail y’all.

Not to be a hetero ally or whatever but I sincerely hope all straight women can find a man who puts in the effort, provides, listens, and most importantly, cares. I hope you find a man who values you and let’s it be known he’s grateful to be with you. You don’t deserve someone who doesn’t light up when he sees you, doesn’t pay for shit, doesn’t wanna impress you, and just doesn’t realize how bless led he is to be with you. I want them to know that they aren’t selfish for wanting a man they’re actually attracted to or wanting a a man who wants to spoil them how he can. No one deserves to settle.

This “God Creating Things” series by @lonnieiiv on TikTok is HILARIOUS!

God: Now listen to me Gabriel, these are going to be really fun because some go on pizzas.

Gabriel: Yeah, okay, okay.

God: You like that? And then some will make you see things.

Gabriel: …’Kay?

God: And some, Gabriel, some just… kill you.

Gabriel: [Long pause] You doin’ okay, pal?

I love how he turns off the stove to give this the attention it deserves

My husband adds “…some just…kill you” to a random sentence at least twice a month.

the amount of women who have told me that they love masks because they can go out without makeup on… hell world. the women who say “makeup is art! women only wear it for ourselves and to express ourselves!” need to understand that there is a large majority of women who clearly feel pressure and feel bad about themselves if they don’t wear it

We’re only finding out recently that a lot of animals have colors and patterns that we cannot see because they’re outside of our visual range. It calls to attention how much of the world we can’t experience because our senses are limited. When we shine UV lights on them, they glow pink or blue, but these are the colors that we CAN see…. they could be a bunch of different colors, which we SEE as all pink. It’s also interesting to consider that most of these animals are not aware of having glowing patches on their bodies…. isn’t it also possible that we have skin or hair patterns that were not aware of? . . (There is actually some research out there to support the idea that our own skin fluoresces as well and that there are gender differences in the pattern and glow.) Other places to see my posts: INSTAGRAM / FACEBOOK / ETSY / KICKSTARTER

Humans do have invisible stripes!  They’re called Blaschko’s Lines, formed as  skin cells divide at the embryonic stage.  Normally we can’t see them at all, though certain skin conditions follow those same lines.

Apparently this is roughly what we’d look like, if our eyes could see in a different spectrum:

Image

Dunno about you, but I want to use this in a story someday.  Aliens can see our stripes and we can’t!  Magical transformations follow Blaschko’s Lines!  A subtle sign of lycanthropy is darker hair there!  Wizards are bald with that cool spiral on their heads!

Speculative fiction is so much more fun when you can speculate about something strange but true.

I know y'all did not read the books but Roald Dahl talks about this in the book. Charlie’s teacher points out the fact that unless you buy a shit ton of bars you’re probably not gonna win. Just like the lottery. Just like how all of the other winners of the tickets bought a shit ton of bars. Except Charlie, who just got lucky. And Charlie was originally black. Literally the whole point of the book was that wonka wanted to give the less fortunate a fair opportunity and it wasn’t fair because the system isn’t fair.

Stop the car.

Charlie was originally black?!?!

!?!!

He was and Mr. Dahl was forced to make him white. Also his widow has spoken and confirmed that as well.
