Coming from the UK after our own catastrophe: you make his life hell. You make his government’s life hell. Anything and everything shitty that they want to do, you protest, you campaign, you petition, you lobby. You tie the whole thing up in so much red tape that Mr I’ve-Never-Had-Anyone-Say-No-To-Me starts loathing his job.

You create private safe zones, you look out for one another, you let your now validated racist, homophobic, transphobic neighbours know that their bigotry will not be tolerated through any means you feel it’s safe to do so. You join forces. Despite everything, you thrive out of spite, out of survival, out of a need to protect your own.

All of these communities have faced untold amounts of hell before and we’re all still here. It’s in our history to survive – in our genetic makeup. There will be losses and there will be casualties but in four years you’ll still be here and you’ll vote him out and the time to grieve will be then. For now, fight. In any way you can, even if all you can do is get through each day at a time. Fight him every step of the way.

even if trump wins, it doesn’t mean it’s over. congress will not let him do most of what he wants to do (i mean, a lot of it’s unconstitutional, lmao). even if they do, it will a take a long time, perhaps even bleeding over into the next president’s term (and i hope to god that next president is a democrat). so do not assume that everything he proposes will happen! and voting is not our only way to participate in the government. protest. lobby. fight. don’t just accept a trump victory. if he wins, we need to fight harder than ever. we can’t give up. we can mitigate the effects of a trump presidency, but we need to fight.

millennials are a powerful group. we can make our voices heard. i know it’s scary. but it’s more important than ever to fight. don’t give trump an easy victory. fight as hard as you can for the entire 4 years he might be president. and help each other, protect each other. lift up your head and fight together. it’s easy to be discouraged, but the fight is not over.

i’m scared, too. i’m scared for my life. and take the time you need to take a deep breath and get away from everything for a little while. but in the end, if trump wins, we cannot make that easy for him. people are making a trump presidency seem like doomsday right now, but congress, checks and balances, and the actions of people – like us – can stop most of it from happening. the only bad thing that is really guaranteed to happen under a trump presidency is the appointment of some conservative supreme court justices (but even then congress has to approve them).

so tl;dr: if trump wins, the fight is not over. take a deep breath and hold your head high. he cannot, and will not, do everything that he’s proposed. so keep fighting and don’t let him destroy everything we’ve worked for.

alright guys, it’s looking like the unimaginable is happening and i know it’s real easy to fall into that good old depression/anxiety loop but! this isn’t the end, not at all, not by a long shot!

trump isn’t going to change the world overnight! you aren’t going to wake up in a conversion camp, or without healthcare, or deported tomorrow morning. this sort of thing takes time. obama isn’t out of the white house until january, and even then passing bills takes time.

so what can we do with that time? we can prepare. this is just a hiccup, guys, a big hiccup but a hiccup nonetheless. we are being faced with hatred, and ignorance, and evil right now, but that doesn’t mean we give up. we are the good guys, the ones that will be painted in history as heroes, as fighters, as the ones who didn’t let that awful, awful man silence us. turn towards each other-poc, muslims, lgbt+, the disabled, women, anyone who find their rights challenged by this. turn towards each other and find strength!

wake up tomorrow morning, and live. hold your head up high and show the world that you won’t let this hinder you. you are strong. you are beautiful. you are perfect. we as a people have fought since the beginning of time for the under dog, look to your predecessors for inspiration and keep marching forward as a people.
