little self care tips

- apply Vaseline to your eyes, lashes, brows, and lips before bed

- never brush curly hair while it’s dry

- on that note, applying products/oil to curly hair while dry is useless

- use a t shirt to dry hair to avoid frizz

- sleep without pants. trust me.

- avoid watery body lotions like Vaseline’s lotion. only dries you out

- avoid crystalline, jagged scrubs (sugar, coffee. St. Ives, etc.). Use round/gentle ones like oatmeal

- avoid coconut oil on face. if you apply it to your hair wash your face afterwards

- don’t put lemon on your face. it might seem like it’s helping but it weakens its protective layer in the long run. if you do use it, dilute it and avoid sun for a while.

- no toothpaste on pimples either it’s a myth

- why do u have a bra on at home. take that shit off and live a little.

- apply deodorant before getting dressed so it doesn’t rub off on your clothes defeating the purpose

- reapply sunscreen every 3-4 hours

- don’t text the fuckboy he don’t care about you

- wake up 30 minutes earlier to have a more relaxed morning and avoid rushing

- wash panties by themselves so you don’t get the gross dirt and germs from your other clothes mixed in. dry them in the sun to kill bacteria if possible.

- hand wash all hijabs they’ll last longer

- don’t use rose water with added fragrance. always check label

- eat at least one fruit or vegetable a day

- leave menial tasks for the end of the day. don’t drain yourself before getting to the important stuff

- before saying something mean or a nasty joke, take 5 seconds to think about it.

- apologizing first doesn’t make you weak

- being vulnerable doesn’t make you weak

- exfoliate after using foundation or powder

- clean phone screen with rubbing alcohol/sanitizer

might add more later or y'all can reblog with your own tips

Oh hey it’s back on my dash perfect!  I was just thinking of this the other day!

OHOHOHO wow the Korean alphabet is awesome. The people who designed it were geniuses and were obviously incredibly schooled in the morphology and phonology of their language. HNNGGG

FUN FACT!

IT WASN’T JUST ANY OLD DUDE WHO DECIDED, “HEY I WANT TO CREATE A KOREAN ALPHABET.”

IT WAS KING SEJONG, WHO ORDERED HIS ROYAL SCHOLARS TO CREATE THIS ALPHABET SO READING AND WRITING COULD BE ACCESSIBLE TO EVERYONE, EVEN THE PEASANTS. IT WAS PURPOSELY DESIGNED TO BE EASY TO LEARN.

SO SHOUT OUT TO KING SEJONG, WHO REALIZED BEFORE MANY OTHERS THE IMPORTANCE OF UNIVERSAL LITERACY.

YOU GO KING SEJONG, FOUR FOR YOU KING SEJONG

✎ Korean Resources

I was asked to make a post of resources I’ve used or heard about for studying Korean, but I accidentally published it as I was working on the draft so the original ask got deleted too, sorry about that… ;;

This list will probably be most helpful towards beginners though, since I’m still one too. ^^ If anyone has more suggestions, feel free to add on or let me know so I can update this post!

Online resources:

✘ TalkToMeInKorean: the first resource I ever used. I’m still going through the lessons, haha. But it’s free and each audio lesson also has an accompanying pdf so you can follow along more easily. They’ve also got more study materials you can buy in their online store if you would like.

✘ Daum and Naver online dictionaries (for the Naver dictionary, use the search box on the left)

✘ Sogang Korean: an online course from Sogang University. I didn’t use it the whole way through, but this helped me understand pronunciation. I’ve heard about a lot of people using it though!

✘ Seemile (YouTube channel): free video lessons, if you prefer things being explained in a lecture-like format. Their videos are offered in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese.

✘ This reddit thread has a lot of resources as well, if you’re looking for more (and the r/Korean subreddit is a pretty good place for questions as well).

Textbooks:

✘ Korean Grammar in Use: Currently using this book right now! A lot of people recommend it. There are 3 books for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, and I believe each book covers material for ~2 TOPIK levels.

✘ Ewha Korean: Currently using this (the 1-1 level) as well as the workbook! I really like it~ It’s fairly easy to understand. There are 2 books for the 6 TOPIK levels, plus separate workbooks for each. Comes with a cd as well!

✘ Sogang Korean: Another textbook series by Sogang University. I haven’t used this myself, but a lot of university classes use this, so it’s also a fairly popular choice.

✘ Integrated Korean: I haven’t used this either, but I’ve also heard it’s a popular resource. I heard there is no answer key however, so this might be best if you’re taking a class with it or have a native speaker who can answer your questions.

*If you’re set on using a textbook but are unsure of which one to buy, you can actually find pdfs online for all of these if you google them carefully. i think it’s best to properly buy them of course, but this is a good way of previewing the book and seeing if it’s in a format you’d like.

General Study Tools: (these are great for any language too, btw!)

✘ Anki: A spaced repetition software (digital flashcard) program. (I swear by this!)

✘ Memrise: Another program for digital flashcards that are premade. I haven’t used this much myself, but it’s really popular. Both this and Anki are available on multiple platforms.

✘ Lang-8: A site where you can write journal entries in the language you’re studying and have native speakers correct them. You can also correct other peoples’ entries in your native language. Really great for writing practice!

✘ HiNative: I only discovered this app recently, but it’s really great! It’s by the same people who made Lang-8, and it’s basically an app where you can ask questions about anything regarding the language you’re learning (such as “how do you say ___,” “what is the difference between ____ and ____,” and so on), and native speakers can answer them. I’ve been using this for Japanese, and I’ve found that questions are answered quite quickly, usually within a few minutes or so. This is really great for when you’ve got simple questions that you wouldn’t want to write a whole Lang-8 entry for, or when you need answers quickly. It’s only on iOS right now, but there is also a web version anyone can use.

How to recover an unsaved draft on Microsoft Word

This literally saved my ass a few minutes ago. Yes, you can recover those files that you accidentally closed and thought you couldnt get back.

Right after that happens, open Microsoft Word again and click File - Info - Manage Versions - Recover Unsaved Documents.

It is literally that simple.

How To Get A Job Fast As Hell

 @owenabbott

  • Apply to a  job, wait (1) day, then call.  Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that you’re very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Say” thank you for your time, I’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you.” Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.
  •  When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly,  tell them your first and last name.
  • Describe your experiences  as “ two years transcription and data entry” if you have a desk job interview and “ [however many years]  costumer service, retail and stock” for your retail jobs.
  • Don’t use job “ buzz words” I stg they hear them all day. Say  things like, “ I’m detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.”  “ I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fit”
  • When they ask you if you have “reliable transportation” say  YES. don’t tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you don’t do this, you wont get the job , I’m telling you right now).
  • Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position you’re intending to apply for.
  • When they ask you “ give us a situation where you had to blah blah blah” Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your company’s needs slightly above the customer’s needs, but make the customer happy.
  • If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you “like to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things right” (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)

Questions for after the interview:

1.  Does this position offer upward mobility?

2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if you’re not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)

  •  Then, shake their hand,  Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.
  • AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (I’ll give you them) that says “Thank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great day” This shows  that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when they’re shuffling through the choices.
  • DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone.  In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because you’re desperate.
