"Do I even want to know?"

Anne paused for a moment at the voice, taking a moment to locate it’s owner on the darkened deck before her. With the vast majority of the crew otherwise occupied with making the most of their brief stint on land before they set sail again, Anne was surprised to see that their captain hadn’t taken the opportunity to drink himself into a stupor in one of the taverns or brothels littered across the shoreline.

She’d been with Jones’ crew for a matter of weeks, after Jack had cast her aside, and this was her first time back to Nassau since they’d separated. Time had not made the blow any softer she’d found, and seeing his face in the tavern had only raised her ire and had her turning and stomping out of the establishment, leaving the rest of the crew to drink themselves under the tables without her. She hadn’t stopped to see if he’d even noticed her presence, all she knew was that she needed to be as far away from him as possible.

Her feet made the familiar trek back to the beach where they’d stored their rowboat, and before she knew it she was back aboard, clearly looking as angry as she felt if her captain’s words were anything to go by.

“Didn’t expect to see you here. Why aren’t you ashore?” She replied, ignoring his question entirely.

"No one ever made history by being like anyone else." (Love me Anne - jackrxckham)

Anne rolled her eyes as she heard the quartermaster start, feeling the sinking sensation that this was going to end in another long rambling tale of how he was going to make history, how no one would ever forget the name Jack Rackham. Monologues on this topic were rather frequent in her experience, and while she was perfectly content to listen to him explain yet another plan to put his name in the history books, she felt the need to remind him that she’d not actually meant to start him off on this again.

“So you keep telling me. But I ain’t asking about making history, am I? I’m asking if this plan of yours is a smart idea, or just some last ditch attempt to make a name for yourself. I’m not sending us both to the fucking gallows so that you can have some old fucker write your name down, Jack.”

Stupid Decisions Sentence Starters

“No one ever made history by being like everybody else.”

“If plan A doesn’t work the alphabet has 25 other letters.”

“In my defense, I was left unattended.”

“Hey… No need to go in there.”

“I may have let the success go to my head.”

“If at first, you don’t succeed. Make sure you carry a parachute.”

“Well, hello there. You look like a bad decision. Come on over here.”

“You’re the one who left me alone! So technically this is partly your fault.”

“I tried to be good. But I go bored.”

“I left you alone for like Five Minutes!”

“Why am I the only adult in a room full of adults?”

“Everything happens for a reason. But sometimes that reason is your stupid and make bad decisions.”

“Do I even want to know?”

“You’re not listening to a word I’m saying are you?”

“You’re going to do it anyway, aren’t you?”

“I swear some of these rules are only created to try and make sense out of the stupid decisions you made.”

He didn’t see many women who preferred to live their life at sea, but he knew they existed and she was living proof.  Sometimes he regretted leaving his wife, Mary, in Jamaica all alone, but once he partook in a raid, he never once wished he’d brought her into harm’s way.  When his ‘missions’ for the English crown were settled, he could return to her.  At least, during the times when Mary was alive and he was still governor.  How the years did go bye, faster and slower, like the building of new ships.

“Those are a sturdy pair of blades,” he tried to make conversation out of his love for weaponry. “They don’t look like any of the flimsy ones I’ve seen around this port.”

“They’re not from this port. There’s no good smiths in this port, you’re better off looking elsewhere if you’re here for blades or pistols. Only thing this place is still good for is rum.” Anne nodded, hands gripping at the familiar blades, as much a part of her as her own arms were. There weren’t many women who favored the sweet trade, but after what Anne had seen fighting for a prize with the chance of death hanging over her from the moment her boots touched that foreign deck held no fear for her. She’d rather die a free woman than trapped on land in either servitude or marriage anyway.

Currently she was somewhat adrift, an argument with Rackham leading her to split from his crew, working on whatever ship needed the numbers and was willing to accept a woman with her bloody reputation on board.

Anne huffed at Max after she voiced her concerns, knowing they weren’t entirely unfounded. Since Flint and Silver had left the sweet trade the number of pirate vessels prowling the seas had dwindled down to only a handful, and they had to be increasingly careful if they didn’t want to swing like those unlucky souls who came before them. While all this may be true, Anne could not bring herself to even consider this might happen to them, not after all they’d been through to get where they were. She’d almost lost Jack once to the gallows after all, and Vane had actually suffered that fate himself, she would not even entertain the idea that could happen to them now. So she would scoff at Max and pretend that there was nothing to fear, and hope that perhaps one day that would be true.

“Ain’t nothing to worry about. Got Jack and Mary to watch my back, nothing’s going to happen to me.” She murmured, moving a loose curl from Max’s face and tucking it behind her ear, hoping that her words rang with more truth to Max’s ears than they did to her own.

Hearing that he was appeased by her proximity despite the temperature, Anne allowed herself to relax beside him. It was ridiculous really that she could still be so skittish in certain moments, ready to flee or fight even in a situation such as this, but it was an instinct that she wasn’t sure she’d ever be able to control unfortunately.

“You always were a fucking sap” She murmured, though her smile showed she meant no ill will by those words. For once she was content to just lie there beside him and indulge in his desire for more tactile affection. She’d never admit it to him of course, but there was something that she quite enjoyed about being tucked into his side with her head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat beneath her, strong and steady. She didn’t normally allow herself such indulgences, it was too much for her on most occasions and after they’d slept together she often found she needed space from him, something in her panicking about getting too close to her Jack despite all they’d been through.

“Don’t get used to this, don’t know how long we have before someone needs you for something or other.”
