Favorite Season: Spring, not to hot and not too cold, plus everything gets green and blooms. 

Favorite Flower: Foxglove, especially the purple one.

Whumpee gets cocky and defiant to Whumper. “You don’t scare me!” “What are you gonna do?” “Do whatever you want, I can take it!”, etc. It seems to be working too; Whumper gets pissed but storms off without hurting them.

The next time Whumper comes into the cell, they don’t come alone. They’ve got Caretaker with them – and judging by the multitude of wounds, they’ve had them all this time. Every time Whumpee mouthed off, Caretaker was punished for it and Whumpee didn’t even know. 

Caretaker knew. And as Whumper throws their abused body into the cell and the horrified Whumpee gapes at them, Caretaker’s first words to their friend are a bitter hiss. “You just can’t keep your mouth shut, can you?”

Thinking about going ahead and switching blogs, will probably update everything when I get home

call to action: write a whump prompt

anyone can write whump prompts. everyone can write whump prompts.

a common experience i’ve seen in this community is that we daydream about whump, and brainstorm great whump scenarios, and imagine whole whumpy scenes in our heads complete with backstory, emotional context, and glorious pain sounds.

if you can imagine all that, then you can put it to words! and this community loves to reblog content that inspires them to think of even more whump.

so i encourage everyone to write at least one whump prompt! it doesn’t have to be worded artfully, doesn’t have to be long or detailed. it can be an overused trope, one that is explicit and edgy (tag TWs properly), or even one that is so specific that you don’t think anyone will use it! there are never enough prompts, never enough exciting scenarios to imagine. i want to see an absolute flood of prompts from people who’ve never dared post their own before.

give it a try! you won’t be mocked or ignored, i’m sure of it. you’ll get at least one note, and that’s one person who was excited to hear your idea! you might even get an ask or request in your inbox, and that’s so so exciting!

make a prompt, reblog others’ prompts, send an ask to a blog that came up with a prompt that inspired you. whole stories are hard to finish, art can be exhausting to create, but prompts are a manageable little tidbit of creativity that anyone can tackle! you can do it!

The Villain had captured the Hero and tortured them for weeks. The city misses their Hero, not knowing where they went, thinking they abandoned them.

One day, mysterious flyers show up around the city, encouraging the citizens to come to the square the next morning for a special holiday surprise. They don’t think much of it and hundreds, even thousands show up to see this surprise.

When they gather in the square just as the sun begins to rise, it shines on a mysterious veil covering a figure at the base of their flag post.

As if on cue, the veil is ripped from the figure, revealing the Hero tied to the pole. They’re beaten and bloody. Their suit is torn to shreds making the gashes littering their body extremely visible. Dried blood coats their face around the mask they still wear. And for effect, the Villain has placed a wreath around their neck.

Harsh gasps and murmurs flutter through the crowd, some even begin to cry. Their Hero tied up like an animal, breathing heavily in pain and humiliation.

“Gather round, gather round!” a voice booms from speakers. “You thought your Hero gave up on you? They went through endless torture just to keep you measly humans safe!” A child’s cries are heard from the crowd.

The Hero looks up tears filling their eyes. Things would never be the same.

Writers: It’s Okay to Experiment and Be Weird As Fuck

With so much writing advice out there telling you what to do and not do, it can be easy to forget that writing is an art, and there are no rules in art.

Yes, learning about different writing techniques is great. Developing a language to talk and think about writing is important. Absorb everything you can. Reading, studying, and practicing are integral to improving your writing. Obviously, I run a writing blog, so I believe in the power of increasing your knowledge about writing and literature.

But don’t forget that, in the end, you can do whatever the hell you want to. Experiment. Have fun. Play. Follow your instincts. Break the “rules.” And don’t listen to anyone who says that no one wants to read weird, nontraditional writing. They do.

For most of my writing life, I’ve kept my crazy, experimental stories hidden away, because it seemed like anything I wrote that wasn’t a straightforward, traditionally-structured story with a main character and a plot wasn’t appreciated by readers. But guess what? One of my weird-as-fuck stories won second prize in a contest this fall, and when I asked the editors why they chose it, they said they liked it because it wasn’t like every other story in the submissions pile. It was different. It was weird. It took a risk. And for that reason it stood out from everything else they read.

It took me years to quiet the chorus of conformity and embrace my weird side. Don’t let that happen to you. Get wild. Write whatever you want. Do it now. We need freaks like you, or we’re all going to whither and die of boredom. Give us everything you’ve got. We need it. We need YOU.
