hey reminder to continue boycotting eurovision and instead turn your eyes on gaza where the last media outlet al jazeera has just been shut down so that Israel can launch its attack on the most densely populated area in the world without scrutiny. Dont stop talking about Palestine

(dont put this guy on blast, i cropped URL out on purpose)

lets use this as an opportunity for learning and growth guys. By platforming Israel, Eurovision legitimizes and enables their genocide. In the same way that Russia has been banned from participating from the Olympics in an act of solidarity with Ukraine, Eurovision had the opportunity to stand in solidarity with Palestine. Instead, they have chosen to associate themselves with Israel, a violent colonial state, uplifting them to an international stage to do pr for themselves.

In the same way, all contestants in Eurovision had the opportunity to condemn Israel or call for their removal from the competition. I'm sorry because I know people get a lot of joy from the music but in a situation as dire as Palestine neutrality is functionally the same as complacency.

I ask you to boycott Eurovision in solidarity with the 34,535 Palestinians who have lost their lives in the last few months. The 77,704 who have been wounded. The 1.5 million survivors, most of them displaced and mourning, who are packed into Gaza right now. Have the empathy and willpower to be serious for like 10 seconds and recognize that you can find entertainment elsewhere.

you know what's really funny?

competitive games like league of legends and counterstrike and valorant and overwatch will never be as stressful or serious as cooking games like overcooked or PlateUp.

like you can fuck around in an fps, but if you fuck up in the kitchen, if you don't take it 100% seriously, and minmax perfectly, your kitchen goes out of business and your friendships are in shambles.

english's pronunciation rules are absolute bullshit poopoo made up crap but one of my favorite side effects of this in written english specifically is like. altering the spelling of a word in such a way that it's technically pronounced the same. but reads very differently when your eyes go over it in written form. and that sort of dissonance between the proper spelling and the altered spelling producing the same basic sounds in your brain creates an unprecedented level of comedy.

ingredience. creacher. both of these are pronounced essentially exactly the same but the altered spellings are just hilarious for some stupid reason. the english language is a disaster but at least whatever is wrong with it is REALLY funny.

given we have nine (9) ways of pronouncing ough (and zero (0) rules governing which to use when), you can basically get away with anything fam - we personally love to write the word boat as bote

This and the Misspelled Franchises live rent free in my head.

Ok I know many foreign names in manga/anime do sound this dumb out of cluelessness and it's funny to point and laugh, but in the case of Death Note in particular, this was not a "haha japanese man doesn't know american names" thing. The weird names were a deliberate choice.

I don't have my copy with me right now to directly quote the passage, but on the Death Note vol. 13 tankoubon—which consists of extras and behind-the-scenes content—, the author says that all the names in the series (including the japanese ones) were chosen to not be similar to real names, to avoid creating awkwardness/fear/superstition due to someone's real name being in the fictional Death Note.

For the japanese names, this was achieved by using names that sound like normal japanese names, but are written with unusual kanji (such as the surname Ide being spelled 伊出 rather than 井手, or Takahashi spelled 鷹橋 rather than 高橋). Light's whole name, Yagami Light spelled 夜神月, is very unique and unusual, to avoid creating unwanted association between him and any real person.

Since names in english don't have kanji, the author just invented names that sound vaguely american/british but are not real names in those countries.
