A new Korra comic I wrote is out in the world. With incredible art by @lokhelle. Link in bio to interview about the story. Nrama: What made you want to bring back Kuvira for this storyline? DiMartino: Kuvira was one of my favorite antagonists from Legend of Korra. I wanted to explore whether or not someone with her past, who had done a lot of terrible things, could be redeemed. I thought it would be interesting to see Kuvira stand trial for her war crimes and join forces with Team Avatar to combat a group of Earth Empire loyalists who try to reassert their power. And although Kuvira had surrendered at the end of the animated series, she had caused a lot of mayhem, both in the world and with her adoptive family, the Beifongs. I knew there was a lot of great character moments to be mined between Kuvira and Su, as well as the other Beifongs, and see if a family could heal after such a terrible rift. https://www.instagram.com/p/ByJqdVGnjlL/?igshid=169lahb66ni7a

I’m so excited we can finally announce what’s in the works! Bryan and I are currently developing this new live-action version of Aang’s story. It’s going to be an epic ride!

“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender,” DiMartino and Konietzko said in a release announcing the project. “We can’t wait to realize Aang’s world as cinematically as we always imagined it to be, and with a culturally appropriate, non-whitewashed cast. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them.”

Yo! This is the special poster I illustrated for this Saturday’s signing at Gallery Nucleus. It’s an exclusive print for sale only at this event, so if you’re thinking about it, best to just grab one! It won’t be available anywhere else afterwards. (I’ve not received confirmation on the price, but it will be something between $40-$50, to my knowledge.)

I wanted to go like, full anime key art for this piece haha *u* I think I succeeded!

We’re proud to celebrate one of our favorite LGBTQ couples this Pride Month, Korrasami!

Art by Irene Koh (aka @prom-knight), the talented artist behind the Legend of Korra graphic novel.

Korra and Asami made their TV debut in Book 1 of The Legend of Korra when the show (created by @michaeldantedimartino & @bryankonietzko) first aired back in April 2012. Their adventure (and romance) continues in the @darkhorsecomics graphic novels today!

Beautiful work from @prom-knight depicting a beautiful moment between two strong and beautiful women.

The Korrasami statue from Mondo is now available for preorders! If you click on the link you can see a turntable GIF of the whole statue and some detail shots. Thanks to Mondo for coming to us with this awesome project, and to all the artists, sculptors, and painters who worked with me on the design and execution. I’m really happy with how it came out and can’t wait to have one on my desk.

Here is the slipcase and cover art I recently did for a new upcoming Blu-ray release of the complete Avatar: The Last Airbender series. They figured out a way to uprez the footage from the original masters. The Blu-ray will be available exclusively from Best Buy starting May 1st, then available nationally starting June 5th. IGN has some more info at this link:

It was the 13th anniversary of the premiere earlier this week; the 15th anniversary of when Mike and I created the series is coming up this spring; and it’s the 10th anniversary of the finale later this year.

You can see some process images from these covers over at my new Instagram account: https://www.instagram.com/bryankonietzko/

Great cover, Bryan!
