I saw this today on Twitter and I definitely agree.

People need to separate the character from the actor that's playing the character. Not all fans of Neil & Astarion do this but some fans do.

Neil has expressed his boundaries and how it makes him uncomfortable that many fans have crossed his boundaries to sexualize him. On his streams, you can see the boundaries he's trying to place.

He talked about being a survivor, a trauma that he wants to remain private, which Astarion is a survivor himself. He also spoke how much Astarion means to him.

Now Neil is gorgeous but he isn't a piece of meat. He's an incredibly kind, sweet, silly, and a wonderful soul.

He is a human being with feelings and Astarion is a character.

you can just think about astarion from baldur’s gate 3 on the clock all day at work and no one even knows. They can’t do anything.

Fanfiction is 100k stories about two dudes in a shiny black car. Fanfiction is 47 chapter epic tales about dragons and magic. Fanfiction is short stories that evoke such emotions that leave you crying for hours. Fanfiction is incredible prose that lingers in your mind for years to come.

Fanfiction is not shameful. It is not worthless. It is not just some silly thing kids do.

Fanfiction is beautiful art and no one can take that away from you. If they try, just write them into your next story and beat the hell out of them.

2024 is truly the year of making yourself happy, not caring what others think (especially strangers on the internet) and creating and keeping things that make you happy.

a while ago, one of my mutuals was considering quitting writing. her fics weren’t doing as well, and the algorithm wasn’t favoring her writing like it used to.

so as a collective 10-15 writers, we all reblogged her fic once each. that alone put her writing at the top of the tag.

it makes a difference. way more than you think. it doesn’t matter if people see it because of you, it still gets promoted by the algorithm.

Shouldn’t you be drawing and writing because you love to do it and not for immediate validation on social media?

@skyhimbolink That is the reason we draw and write, but we share it for immediate validation on social media. Also, even if the entire reason was validation that’s perfectly fine too.

I don’t think we ask for much when we request people to share our work. We understand at the end of the day it’s up to them to do it, we’re not forcing anyone but that doesn’t mean we’re gonna stop asking.

To be honest, what you said is one of the most upsetting things you can tell a creator and still expect them to be sharing their work for free.

Thank you a lot to everyone who is boosting this. It means a lot to me that you guys care, I've been on the verge of tears the whole day. My mum is trying to make things less negative being funny and assuring me we can manage but I'm really sad and disappointed things have reached this point.
