So, I haven’t been posting my art journey much over the past month, but I have been painting and drawing from time to time. I don’t have a lot of energy in the winter because Seasonal Affective Disorder saps all of it, but I feel like I have made some progress.
I know a lot of artists copy old masters to study their technique and get better, so I decided to do a copy of a Wayne Thiebaud drawing that I really like.
Here’s my attempt at Thiebaud’s 1964 drawing, Three Jelly Apples.

I like Thiebaud’s artwork because a lot of it is so accessible. He does a lot of paintings and drawings of desserts and other foods and everyday items, like this drawing of three caramel apples.
I’m pretty satisfied with my efforts. I wasn’t able to create an exact copy, but I came pretty close. I don’t know how he got his so dark, though. I was using a 6B, and that’s the best I could do. XD Maybe the picture I took turned out darker than it is in real life? The picture online looks darker than the picture in my book.
Anyway. This was a fun project. Maybe I’ll do more studies in the future.
