Alright, I’ve personally been wondering what other people’s opinions on this would be, so

*I know IBS isn’t a true expansion but it’s got its own mastery line so I’m counting it

i was putting this in the tags but it got so long that it was basically an entire post anyway so. okay. listen to me. hear me out:

I know Champions was bad. I know Champions was really, really, agonizingly bad, and because they dripfed it to us over months you never got used to it because UGH. GOD. NEW SUPPLY MISSION. every 3 weeks or whatever and it just was not fun. You were always being freshly reminded of how bad Champions was. The character writing is bad (No asura except Taimi has basically anything to say about Primordus, and she's portrayed as basically just being ridiculously hysterical about it?? They've been smoothing her down over time but it was real bad here.), DRMs were fucking miserable, I think DRM CMs are still bugged, and Dragonstorm is Okay but there's only so many times you can watch Jormag puke in their brother's mouth and hear CHAMPION!! HELP ME!! THIS POWER!! IT'S TOO WILD!! before you're just going BenAffleckWithACigarette.png about the whole shebang. IN THE MEANTIME, FIRE ALAR[sniper rifle shot rings out. i crumple bonelessly to the ground]

Here is the thing. Here is the horrible truth I realized when I did Seasons of the Dragons:

The rest of Icebrood Saga was good. (Cut for length. I, uh, I kinda went on about this & about why I think SotO is so bad. Sorry. I have strong thoughts and feelings. When I said 'length', by the way, I meant it,)

Happy Springtime, everyone! The first Saturday of a new month fast approaches, which means it's time for another art party hosted by my guild, [VS] Verdant Shield! This time we'll be in a place every asura has been at least once - the Golemagical Institute!

For those who aren’t familiar with art parties, they’re a concept carried over from Final Fantasy XIV - in-game get-togethers for artists/writers/creatives of all types to hang out, chat, and create together! Get your favorite character/look together, head to the location, find someone that catches your eye, and create! Afterwards, everyone posts their creations in a shared tag (ours is #VSArtParty) so others can see, interact, and share! Tl;dr: the ‘goal’ of an art party isn’t to be drawn, but to draw others, and share with the community!

Time and /squadjoin information is under the cut, but will also be posted again via reblogs as the squads go up on the day of the party!

HEY EVERYONE, I have been approved to get top surgery! I'm still in the works scheduling, and thankfully I have insurance, but it's still gonna be a pretty penny out of pocket. SO if you want to pitch in to help me out, here's my Ko-fi account! <3

I just put down my first $1000 towards my surgery, which is officially happening June 26th! I went ahead and added that to my total goal - I'm over a quarter of the way there! :)

the awakened portal incursion event/storyline is actually an intensely fascinating bit of lore and it both ties together a bunch of mists lore and adds kind of new angles on it and i think everyone should appreciate it with me

its easy to miss if you didnt do the achievements for it especially as it was kind of unfolding live but what it is is that a bunch of the awakened that were traveling through the portal from fahranur to rata primus during the instant the commander destroyed rata primus sort of got turned into fractals. like literally.

it builds off of what we already knew from fractals + mistlock sanctuary + wvw (yes) that the mists loves creating 'ripples' of things that touch it, which it'll near infinitely spit out repeated echo copies of, and so the awakened that were going through that portal when the destination become lost basically hit the mists so hard that it kind of instantly obliterated them and replaced them with mists clones of themselves. on top of that, they just get launched through rifts into places at random because this is what happens when gates get damaged, and this actually happens to braham and the commander at the end of A Bug In The System as well-- we just don't get turned into fractal copies because the gate was damaged as opposed to destroyed. yay!

what's also neat to me, though, is that as opposed to the fractals* we are familiar with, the fractal awakened are actively decaying. (*this includes mistlock sanctuary and wvw and revenant legends, which are also all fractals or things functionally similar. wahoo!)

here's the bits from ninn's journal about it that i really like:

Comparisons against archived golem scans indicate that the Awakened observed have significant degradation consistent with extraplanar overexposure. Left unopposed, they degenerate after a period of minutes into undifferentiated material. ---- The collapse of portal integrity, in the abscence[sic] of a stable endpoint, caused a phenomena inversion, obliterating the Awakened and trapping their remnants in an interstitial state. See related studies attached [clearance check]. The current attacks are created by this Mist-based repetition phenomenon, similar to the research submitted by [clearance check]. The attacks do not represent a new strategy on the part of Awakened command and do not pose tactical or political challenge to existing Peacemaker forces in their areas. The repetition phenomenon will decay until attacks case in approximately [clearance check] years.

what this sort of implies and what makes sense with the current mists lore we have is that, as i mentioned with the ripples, the 'seize onto something and constantly make rippled echo fractal copies of it' thing is something the mists just sort of... does. it's just a gigantic magic pond and everything that touches it ripples across it.

what sets the actual Fractals of the Mists Dungeon apart, as well as mistlock, is that dessa invented machines that basically grab onto these ripples and force them to constantly repeat themselves ad infinitum (Ha Ha) with a sort of forced hard timeline reset so that she can study them without them decaying

what's Also neat and horrifying about it is that we know from both SOTO and the mistlock sanctuary npcs that the people who live within fractals *are* real people-- presumably part of why dessa makes the fractals loop is to preserve the purity of the fractals/the original events within, otherwise the people inside would just begin making their own decisions as they slowly faded away. the SOTO fractal islands are sort of functionally different, but they are not forced to flow in a loop and can leave the islands without it being a problem, so they get to live out their lives. the fractalized awakened are not being stabilized by any sort of mechanism, but also cannot leave, which means that even though they're sort of 'walking ghosts' who are only pale copies of their original selves, they are both fully sentient and have awareness! potentially even an awareness that something is wrong! neat stuff!

So.... Did ANET ever connect the whole Oni/Gyala Delves thing to what's happening with Kryptis in Secrets of the Obscure? The Oni seem like they could be related to Kryptis, but I don't think they ever actually made that connection and it really does feel like that whole "Gyala Delves dealt with a demon infestation" was kind of a fever dream

because of the Rytlock poll, I present reasons why a few of my toons could not lift Mjolnir. (Thor's hammer obv, not the gw2 version.)

Fellow: told her current bunch of vigil trainees that lifting the hammer is today's training exercise. Did not do anything to imply this was anything but a normal, slightly heavy hammer.

Colla Batdad: let his bats poop on the hammer and didn't clean if off. (didn't know the hammer was there.)

Abby: conflict of interest

Wander: would have tried to steal mjolnir.

Asa: this is a very quick way to send her to the hospital. Depending on what parts of her body are currently affected by the brand, she's more likely to get pulled down the by hammer instead of pulling it up. She's a magic user by practicality, not necessarily passion.

Kelly: i had to craft juggernaut for kelly. if he ever touches another hammer he's dead to me.

Song: body of a norn, soul of a dark-eyed junco. Is INCREDIBLY judgmental about how it would make TRASH nesting material and hurt mjolnir's feelings.

i just wanted to address the GW2 Warp/AI stuff thats been floating around today as my name has come up a few times and i felt like i should say something at least. i'm a quiet person and tend to keep to myself so bare with meeee

Straight to it: I would never, and will never, consent to my art being used to train any sort of AI model. I had zero idea about anything going on with GW2 Warp, its developers, or the Discord (I honestly barely even knew what a GW2 Warp was). I'm vehemently anti-AI art and wont be changing my mind any time soon for as long as the ethics surrounding it are non-existent. it's that shrimple 🦐

i have so much more to say about AI-art but i just don't have the energy for it for the time being. creatives, creative-works-enjoyers - just remember to support, love, and lift up one another. it's the best we can do for each other

ok that's it love you all more art soon ❤️

AI Art

Hi! I heard down the grapevine that some people are thinking of using/have been using art and screencaps in the gw2 tags to build AI Art! So my official stance is; fuck your AI "art" that's just made from stolen assets. I do not support it or usage of my work in it, I'm too tired for this shit 🖕 Thanks! <3

I love how insane the holiday lore is for gw2.

Halloween is just this insane king guy coming back to torment the capital of kingdom again and people said “yeah we can make a holiday about this.” The city isn’t even part of the kingdom anymore but he doesn’t give a shit. Go fight in his maze, idiot.

Wintersday was originally two gods fighting over whether it should stay winter or move to spring, like some sort of demented groundhogs day. Then they fucked off and some guy was like “hey this seems like a business opportunity” and turned it into Capitalism, while also forcing people to fight his toys that just kinda came to life and started fucking around.

I love this game.

super adventure box was developed in the dynamics dorm showers because no one would give moto a research grant to afford a lab

he was able to set up a lab in the dynamics dorm showers because he put bright green dye in the plumbing and convinced the students it was radioactive
