Call for Mods:

Hey y’all!

Due to various reasons, the 3 mods running Chowder Week last year will be unable to continue doing so this year. However, we don’t want Chowder to be left out and so, we’re open to passing the blog onto someone or a group of people who wish to mod it!

We prefer mods of Chinese descent (Chinese American/Chinese diaspora), and will hold the call open until Sunday, Sep 30th 2018, 11:59pm CDT. Feel free to contact us through our askbox, and we’ll try to keep Chowder Week alive in 2018! :)

Please also note, that we will not be responding to asks until the deadline, thank you for your understanding.

Love, Mods!

P.S. Yun is open to staying on if you need the extra help but might not be able to dedicate too much time to the project.

Hey uh, completely theoretical, but – how much organising would y'all say is needed for Chowder week?

Avatar

Hey! Thanks for the great question! :)

Personally, I think that it depends on a few factors: How grand you want it to be, how big your team is and when you want to hold it! I think for the most of us, it was our first time planning such an event and I wanted to go all out and I mainly concentrated on graphics and coding. Everything else was handled by Phee and Fang. So because we had a rather diverse set of skills, we were mostly able to pull it off.

It isn’t necessary to organise it to take place on the exact dates we did! We had that set of dates last year because Chowder’s birthday happened to be around the same time as the Mid-Autumn Festival!

Ultimately, it’s up to you how much time you want to spend on it imo? But I would recommend 1-1.5 months, it was more labour intensive than I thought! :”)

Hi, that’s a good question indeed. When I started Chowderweek on a whim, I was thinking it would be smallish like NurdeydexWeek and initially based Chowderweek off it. After coming together with Yun and Phee, and having some discussion, we decided we could try to pull off something bigger.

On the organizing part, tasks fall mainly into initial prep and day-of monitoring. Because we were planning several different activities, we had to discuss and decide how to format the layout, how to handle the submissions streams, timelines and responsibilities and so on. The more you plan into the event, the more prep you have to do, with a more than linear relationship. (Work increases faster than plans.)

I put out the notice for Chowderweek 2.5 months in advance, and we did take 1.5 months to get through all of our prep, so Yun’s estimate is accurate for what we did.

Hope this helps!

- Fang (ohjustletmewriteinpeace)

yun and fang have pretty much said everything, i think

i just wanted to add--i can't remember how long we spent just freely talking about our ideas, goals, and skill sets at the beginning, but that brainstorming before getting into the details of deadlines for getting certain tasks done (i.e., writing up an intro post, guidelines, rules, coming up with prompts, setting up the blog/blog pages, conceptualizing accompanying graphics, proofing all the writing/graphics/content we were about to put out, etc.) was valuable for setting up the big picture of what we wanted to achieve imo. maybe 1 or 2 weeks? (this was included in the 1.5 months of prep, i think. i hope. sorry idr!!)

Hello, are you planning to do Chowder Week 2018? Just realised it's coming up soon!

Hey!

Unfortunately, all 3 mods (Fang, Phee and me) are unable to hold Chowder Week 2018 due to various reasons :( However, we’re open to passing the blog onto someone or a group of people who wish to hold it! I can probably stay on if people want to come onto this project. But at the moment, there are no plans for Chowder Week 2018, sorry!

Fang: Thank you all so much for participating in ChowderWeek 2017! We have received so many wonderful works which you can check out on our tags page, and we hope you keep showing love to our favorite goalie Chris Chowder Chow!! We’ll step away from monitoring this blog, but it will be here until the next ChowderWeek event, so stay tuned and stay excited!

Phee: Hi all, thanks so much for such a ‘swawesome Chowder Week this year!!! We really appheeciate all the time and effort you put into this week, especially since we know it’s a pretty busy time of year. I also want to thank my fellow mods Yun and Fang for all their hard work–teamwork makes the dream work! ❤❤❤

Yun: Hey y’all! Aaaaaah, we’ve officially come to the end of Chowder Week 2017!!! It feels kinda bittersweet but I had such a blast modding and communicating with everyone, especially people who responded to the questions! Thank you to everyone who put in the time and effort to come up with such spectecular content! I found out that it was actually a really busy time when we were holding the event but wow, I’m impressed by the quality of all the content! Also, thank you to Phee and Fang because without them, we wouldn’t have a successful Chowder Week 2017. From the bottom of my heart, thank you once again and love y’all!! 💖

Also I neglected to mention, but thanks to Phee and Yun for making Chowderweek so much bigger and better than I could have done by myself.  Thanks to Phee for keeping us on our toes and making sure we’re treating Chowder right with proper representation, thanks to Yun for wonderful beautiful powderful graphics, and to both of them for theme and navigation design. (Remember how ChrisChowAppreciationWeek looked? lol) Also for putting up with me and for working together to make Chowderweek the best experience for all yall fans. ~ mod Fang

(soundtrack for my fic of the same name; english versions of the songs come after the first four songs)

Summary: Home is now more a feeling than a physical location, but that only means that it hurts more.
(a look at Chris Chow’s four years at Samwell)

song translations

mouse loves rice | the moon represents my heart | fairy tale | my pride

(playlist cover art is from this omgcp extra by ngozi ukazu)

Weight of Living

this is a little late but this was written for the first day of @chowderweek! (full moon)

this fic is based on personal experiences and i’m super happy with how it turned out :”) thank you to @omgcphee for cheering me on as i screamed my head off while scribbling it in my notebook!! also, thank you to my papa and our memories.

[Also on AO3]

(warning: minor character death in this fic!!!!!)

All he feels is dampness on his face as he lies spooning a package that’s travelled a long way. He’s gasping and trying to inhale more oxygen, trying not to choke. He buries his head in his wet pillow, trying to keep it down; he doesn’t want anyone to know that anything’s wrong.

He hears gentle knocks on the door and sucks it up, raising his hand to wipe his tears away before opening the door. However, he’s still grasping at a sheet of paper with familiar handwriting. Tears have flooded his eyes again and he just shouts at the person outside.

“Yo Chow, I heard someone crying, was it you?” asks the person outside. Chris took a deep breath before shouting back, “Nope, wasn’t me!” The person makes a sound,  like he wants to say something, but stopped.

“Ok, just holler if you wanna hang out, I noticed there’s an email that mentioned it was the Mid-Autumn Festival?” the voice says. Chris shakes his head, before realising that they can’t see him.

His voice cracks as he replies, “Yeah, maybe later?”

Silence. It feels unbearable.

Chowder Week Extended Until Sunday, 10/15/17

Hi everyone, thank you for participating and creating for ChowderWeek! We love all your works and hope you enjoyed following along too. We know that this time of year is super busy for people (poor Chowder, his birthday is right during midterms rip), but if you’d still like to do something for Chowder Week, we’ll reblog fanworks until this Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 11:59 PM EST. Feel free to send in responses to any of our daily questions, a song for the Chowder playlist, or prompt fills! If you just want to ignore the questions/prompts and do something Chowder-centric for his birthday, that’d be ‘swawesome, too! Or participate in the 5x5 challenge and show the other creators some love, that would make everyone’s day!

Since @chowderweek is still reblogging posts, have some (really late) Chowder/Nursey for the family dinner prompt.

On AO3 here.

“Is it even cold there?” Nursey asks.  Chowder watches through his computer screen as Nursey adjusts his beanie absently, squishing down more of his curls flat against his head.

Chris snorts, because they’ve played this game before.  “I live in California” translates for Nursey into “I have never experienced a day of cold weather in my pre-Samwell life”, no matter how many times Chris reminds Nursey that he lives in the Bay Area, not LA.

“Of course it is,” Chris says.  “It’s night, and I live in Northern California, Nurse.”

“Google says your average temps. are between 44 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit in December.”  Nursey has said it so many times that he has the numbers memorized.  It’s only a little bit embarrassing.  “Your minimum temperature is our maximum temperature.”

“Cold is relative,” Chris reminds him.  “Not all of us want our cities drowning in white stuff.”

“Nah man,” Nursey says.  “If you think a single inch of snow in New York City is white, you’ve clearly never been there.  It’s gross and dirty from the people and the cars within like.  A day, tops.”

birthday headcanon: chowder was born at 11:27 pm pacific time, a week or so before he was due-- his parents wanted to get back to their parents in california one more time before they had a newborn to transport, and the only way they could pull it off was the second week in october, because his dad's classes had a midterm break then (his mom was on maternity leave from grad school obv). they were supposed to make it back to the east coast before chowder was born, but was born a bit early (1/2)

(2/2) so he ended up being born in california and his grandparents were able to see him right away which everyone was super happy about. [[this headcanon is self-serving because it means chowder was born on the eleventh eastern time, so he and i can share a birthday]]

cute!!!! and aaaaah happy belated birthday dear anon!!! i hope you had a blast :D
