Its due to actor contracts/star appeal most of tiem apparently. Can’t have faces covered too long apparently

…okay now I want a film where most of the action is in space suits colored like power rangers outfits to tell them apart.

This is the perfect idea for use of unknown actors - first roles, people who can body-act well.  If they need dialogue, dub voice actors over them.  Unknown physical actors combined with well-known, celebrated animation voice actors.  Like, “Okay, the purple astronaut is voiced by Tress McNeil! I think the green one is Mark Hammil?  Is the white-suit Jonny Yong Bosch?  Oh, dude, duuuude, is that Keston John voicing Blue?”   And it’s all done in-story with sci-fi com-systems so we can hear the dialogue, but nobody’s taking off their helment in a potentially toxic or oxygen-thin or potentially space-pathogen-laden atmosphere.

maybe it could have twist where the astronauts are not human at all.

Color coded astronauts.

Potentially not human at all.

all the tips I found for drawing a fantasy map are like :) “here’s a strategy to draw the land masses! here’s how to plot islands!” :) and that’s wonderful and I love them all but ??? how? do y'all decide where to put cities/mountains/forests/towns I have my map and my land but I’m throwing darts to decide where the Main Citadel where the Action Takes Place is

okay so i know i said most of this in the replies but it might be easier to actually reblog and say stuff instead lmao

Cities - go near water!  freshwater lakes and rivers (rivers especially) are the best places for cities because A) source of water and B) travel and trade is much easier cus you can put your boats like right there.  Basically ever relevant city ever was built on a lake or a river.

for rivers in general - because gravity, rivers run from mountains (forming from melting snow and ice (this is why they get fat in spring–more stuff melting)) to lakes/ocean where they can empty out (and even lakes will have rivers leading out that eventually get to the ocean), which can help when mapping out where those start and end.  rivers are also much thinner and faster in steeper elevations and very slow and wide when the land is flat

mountains - i like to think of what the tectonic plates look like because that’s what makes mountains!  mountains are also never standalone they’re always in mountain ranges (archipelagos are really just underwater mountain ranges babey).  a cool trick I like to do is occasionally separate mountain ranges across continents, because over time the tectonic plates shifted and literally split the range in half.  These mountains are really old tho so they’ve eroded and therefore it makes them smaller and rounder (like the appalachians) as opposed to relatively young mountain ranges like the rocky mountains which have taller and sharper peaks

Another mountain trick: if your mountains run along the ocean, the ocean side of the mountains will get a LOT of rain while the other side will be very dry–almost desert-like, in fact.  think of temperate rainforests in British Columbia vs the drier conditions in the canadian prairies

forests - depends on how warm the area might be.  coniferous forests are found further north (before you hit the tree line, and then it’s only tundra onwards) but as you head south you get leafier trees, and the leaves tend to get larger too

If you think about general elevation too, you’ll have places that might be swampy (wet + lower).  if your world has an ice age like we did, then glaciers may have carved the land, leaving piles of soil in the south that was left when the ice receded and places where the bedrock has been bared north of that (like the Canadian Shield in Canada–the reason we see that is because of the glaciers)

You might also have a land that’s dotted in a shitton of freshwater lakes as well because the meltwater filled the holes that the glaciers scraped out (this is why canada has so many goddamn lakes)

and if the ice age was more recent than it was in our world, then you might not even have the forest re-growth and it could be a lot of open plains

tl;dr i like to think of major climate events that might have also shaped the land on top of some basic rules

The Artifexian has an entire series on building your world from literally the stars down and then the ground up.

Though, for fantasy, you can make the world operate on entirely different principles:

Jefferson figuring out that his son is Spider-Man but instead of telling him “hey you blew your secret” and possibly freaking him out, starts quietly training him in correct police procedure (without him knowing) while also repeatedly talking about how he had issues with the old Spider-Man but the new one seems like a brave and responsible young man and how he would be totally proud of him if he were this guy’s parents

Jefferson: you’ve got everything you need for the week? Books? Computer? Spray paint? Web fluid? Shoes?

Miles: wait what was that middle thing

Jefferson: spray paint! I support my son’s artistic endeavors

AISBSKSHISGSIWHEJFSHSJHDHSUEHSKSHWKA

Rio: okay but is he seeing that ballerina spider-girl or not? He seems very fond of her

Jefferson: well he’s very insistent that she’s Spider-Woman but honestly he always seems to want to act professional when he’s in the mask so I can’t tell

Rio: you could ask him

Jefferson: honey we need to let him have his privacy he doesn’t want us to know

LATER

Rio: I wonder if the new Spider-Man has a girlfriend he seems like he’d be very nice

Miles, sweating: mom are you trying to set me up with Spider-Man

I’m sorry, but Miles Morales pretending to date Spider-man to keep his secret identity while his parents 100% know that he’s Spider-man is PEAK humor

Half of being trans is being hypervigilant against transphobes. Like, I spent 15 minutes scrolling down on a blog that I would be super interested in just to make sure that it wasn’t going to start reblogging stuff from my favorite transmisogynists. Turns out that my hypervigilance was right again.

Things to look for:

  • References to “vagina envy.” This is what initially got me scrolling. This alone isn’t a sure indicator.
  • Andrea Dworkin quotes without criticism
  • Reblogging from troll accounts like confirmed-/-terf

Most cis wlw on Tumblr are, in fact, supportive of trans people. Most cis wlw who mention “hating men” are not using this as an attack on trans women. However, because of my experience with the small, insular, and vitriolic trans-exclusionary feminists on Tumblr, I have learned to be hypervigilant and it Really Fucking Sucks and Really Fucking Hurts when I am right.

I am a lesbian. This kind of blog would have been My Shit. But I’ve been taught to distrust the very women I connect with the most. I’ve been taught to feel afraid in my own home.

Being a transgender lesbian is constantly walking on eggshells to not prove them right. And their standards are ever changing so it’s inevitable that you’ll prove them right. Righteous anger will be taken as “male propensity towards violence,” which closely mirrors the way men see outspoken women as “shrill.” If we do anything to fight back outside of debate within their terms, we are immediately casted as “violent men.” They will not be satisfied until we shut up, lie down, and die.

Cis wlw can and should reblog this. Help me remember my allies.

Do you think when Catra told Adora that she gave Adora back the sword because she didn't want her to return was the truth?

No. It’s telling that Catra says, “I was lying, obviously!” right before that line in 01x11 (“Promise”), because she’s lying even then. But Catra isn’t just lying to Adora; she’s also lying to herself.

In “Promise,” Catra is trying to deny to herself how much she cares about Adora. She hopes that if she can convince Adora that she doesn’t want her to come back, then Adora will be out of her life forever. As much as that would hurt, at the time, Catra thinks that losing Adora wouldn’t be nearly as painful as confronting her feelings for her – and risking being rejected by Adora. Catra takes this to the farthest extreme possible. She briefly admits that she does want Adora to return to the Horde, but ultimately, she would rather let Adora fall off a cliff than accept her own feelings.

This is why it’s so important that Catra accepts her feelings for Adora in 05x11 (“Failsafe”). She says, “Adora doesn’t want me. Not as much as I want her.” Catra is talking to Melog and not Adora herself, but this moment is still a huge shift for Catra. Right beforehand, Catra was trying to convince Adora not to sacrifice herself by absorbing the magic in the Heart of Etheria. Catra would rather have Adora live, even if Adora doesn’t love her, than lose her altogether.

Catra has experienced a true shift in her character: she understands what it means to love someone unconditionally, and that is what saves both her and Adora. In the end, Catra is finally willing to tell Adora that she loves her, not for herself, but in the hope that Adora will gather the strength to survive. When Adora also confesses her love, Catra is shocked; she genuinely didn’t believe Adora would love her back. Catra’s confession is a selfless act, brought on by unconditional love, and that is what makes it so meaningful.
