God this is so….You can clearly see Naruto’s not in high spirits when his back is turned, but as soon as he turns around, as soon as other ppl can see him again, he’s all smiles and optimism, the goofy ramen kid everyone expects.

i have so much to say about this, but i don’t have the words rn. he’s been doing this since he was an itty thing. like 7. and these flashback episodes show how often he masks his pain with a smile. when people look away, when no one’s watching, when he’s behind closed doors. the smile falls away. he’s completely miserable.

This is so pure. Iruka would totally understand because he also forewent working in the field for a career more suited to his compassionate nature, teaching…Maybe Naruto is still interested in ninjutsu and Iruka offers to work with him one on one in their downtime. This world is dangerous; Naruto should know how to defend himself, but it’s more of a sport than a lifestyle.

On a macro level, realistically, I can’t see this peace remaining. Naruto is supposed to be Konoha’s big weapon. I doubt the government would be happy about him deciding not to fight for them. They’d probably do everything in their power to push him in that direction. But let’s not think about that. Imagine Naruto defeating Pain by offering him a hot bowl of ramen and an ear to listen. Because all Nagato wanted since he was a starving kid was someone who cared about his pain and the pain of his loved ones and was willing to do something about it, and Naruto is honoring his master’s (Ichiraku’s) teachings by being that one person who steps in and proves human beings are capable of understanding and caring about each other even if they don’t share the same pain.

Naruto defeats Gaara by, yeah talking about his friends, but also talking about cooking, making ramen, and how it has nothing to do with fighting or the evil power inside of him. He’s just creating something he can share. It’s not a grand gesture, and not everyone’s going to accept it, accept him, but some people will. They have. Gaara doesn’t have to be a killer. He doesn’t even have to be a shinobi. He can be anything. Naruto can give him some cooking lessons if he wants. Gaara’s not great at cooking, but he does take up gardening and instead of running for Kazekage becomes known for his beautiful plants in the desert city. It’s funny because now two governments are seething. Kids aren’t supposed to choose not to be soldiers! Jinchuriki aren’t supposed to be people! Naruto’s throwing a wrench in everyone’s military agendas.
