Keeper of Yggdrasil

I have a lot of Thoughts about the Loki series as a whole BUT the visual of Yggdrasil and the timelines was absolutely stunning, so I knew I had to do a rendition of it with a new costume. I loved the idea of Loki physically becoming part of the Tree, with all the branches washing over him like veins, obscuring old pieces of armour and melding with his true Jotun form. (and of course I had to do a glowy eyes version!)

do not repost / reblogs are awesome though / painted in procreate on ipad pro my art tag

kurt vonnegut, being good at things is not the point of doing them.

Image Text:

“When I was 15, I spent a month working on an archeological dig. I was talking to one of the archeologists one day during our lunch break and he asked those kinds of ‘getting to know you’ questions you ask young people: Do you play sports? What’s your favorite subject? And I told him, no I don’t play any sports. I do theater, I’m in choir, I play the violin and piano, I used to take art classes. “And he went wow. That’s amazing! And I said, ‘Oh no, but I’m not any good at any of them.’ “And he said something then that I will never forget and which absolutely blew my mind because no one had ever said anything like it to me before: ‘I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.’ “And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could ‘win’ at them.”

Getting really sick of all the "There's No Place Like Chrome" ads on youtube. There's Firefox. Firefox saves your passwords. Firefox autofills things if you want. Firefox also does things that Chrome doesn't like allow adblockers, and it does not mine your data and sell your information for advertising purposes. Google is really trying to push people to use Chrome so they can take as much data from users as possible in order to make as much money as possible and it's borderline sinister.

Anyway, download Firefox.

The irony of this is because of the ad blockers on my Firefox, I've never seen any such ad.

Thinking about ✨her✨ today

Remaking this Éowyn after 10 years of cosplay was so gratifying! The trim is all hand embroidered and I’m so proud of how well I was able to dye the matelassé to match the corset suede 😍

Omg, the green fabric is felt!!

Wool felt I assume—that makes sense for an Asgardian!

I assume so (can you felt other fabrics?). But I had just assumed it was some light and drapey synthetic for the costume. But this makes such a difference to the way it would hang and move. And it would make it so much heavier to wear.

Ahh yeah, you’re right, they probably didn’t use actual wool for the costume. But in-universe it could be wool! (Apparently archaeologists have found wool felt from Viking times, which is neat whether the costume designers were aware of that or not.)

A woollen cloak / cape definitely makes far more sense from a practical point of view. It would keep the wearer warm and drier than other alternatives. And I've never thought about practicality before for Asgardian clothing, but as you say this is a really nice touch.

Now I wonder if Thor’s cape was also a heavy wool?

It is 100% wool! Looks like a wool crepe which has the pebbly texture (the Dark World costume is wool crepe, linen for the sleeves, and this looks very similar). Both Thor and Loki’s capes are definitely wool at least for the “hero” versions—at least one of Thor’s actually has tiny triquetras all over it which you never see on film but are faintly visible in person!
