Jedi June 2024

A creative fandom event dedicated to appreciating the Jedi, taking place during the entire month of June! Each week will feature two prompts, around which people can create fanwork (of any kind – fic, art, cosplay, edits, anything you can think of) or meta focusing on the Jedi and the Jedi Order. All eras and continuities are welcome; OCs, established characters, doesn’t matter – it just needs to be about appreciating the Jedi!

Rules:

If you are participating, please tag your work/meta with #jedi june and/or @ this blog so that I will see it and reblog it here. All work must be your own. Feel free to crosspost it off-site.

This is an appreciation event, focusing on what we love and enjoy about the Jedi – not what we don’t. This is not the place to air your grievances with the Code, take potshots at the Council, prop certain Jedi/certain eras of Jedi up at the expense of others, or disparage the Jedi Order or their philosophy (including the concept of non-attachment) and way of life in any way. You are free to do that on your own time if that’s your thing, but it has no place within this event.

AUs and crossovers are allowed, with caveats: again, the purpose of this event is to appreciate the Jedi as Jedi, so sticking your favorite Jedi characters in something like a modern AU or making them all Sith or Mandalorian is not really within the spirit of this event. However, AUs such as making a non-Jedi character a Jedi, having a character survive their canon death, giving a character a different teacher or padawan, or killing Palpatine off-screen in an unspecified yet embarrassing and painful manner, would all be perfectly fine. Use your best judgement to determine whether an AU fits the spirit of the event or not.

Ships are allowed as long as they’re not between a child and adult, and following the above rules.

Please tag any spoilers up to two weeks after the relevant content has aired.

Following the prompts is encouraged, but not required. Any sort of pro-Jedi content is encouraged all year month long, and if tagged (and following the rules), will be reblogged.

We also have an AO3 collection!

Prompts:

Week 1 (June 2 - 8):

Prompt 1: Fun/Joy

Prompt 2: Comfort

Week 2 (June 9 - 15):

Prompt 1: Advice/Inspiration

Prompt 2: Balance

Week 3 (June 16 - 22):

Prompt 1: Art/Music

Prompt 2: Peace

Week 4 (June 23 - 29):

Prompt 1: Non-attachment/Letting go

Prompt 2: Cross-lineage mentorship

Bonus (any time):

Prompt 1: Eyes Closed/Trust in the Force

Prompt 2: Animal Friendship

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I hope you will have fun participating!

Is there a discord for the event? I'd love to talk with fellow Jedi appreciators.

There isn't an event discord, sorry. I don't have the bandwidth to run one.

two questions about JediJune

1: Are Jedi OCs who are no longer part of the Jedi Order (not Sith or anything, just like, having to hide type stuff or just walked away which is a thing to my knowledge) okay to participate?

2: Could you give an example regarding the non-attachment thing regarding being allowed to do ships precisely where the line is? Like, I know Jedi are permitted feeling so long -as- certain things, is a Jedi OC who is actually -with- someone allowed (like if they are depicted before a Fall, or they manage to keep it in Balance or smth).

Thanks!

To the first question, I'd say it depends. Jedi in hiding (say post-Order 66, for example)? Definitely, they count. Someone who's left the Order...I guess it depends on how much the fic is focusing on their background and identity as a Jedi. If they're thinking of returning, or they're reflecting on the positive influence the Order had on their life, that would work. But if they don't really have any interest in the Jedi and don't feel any claim to that identity or culture, then that's not really within the spirit of this event.

To the second question, depicting a Jedi in a relationship is certainly allowed. In a general sense, attachment refers to grasping, clinging, possessiveness, jealousy, and the "I can't live without you"/"I will burn down the galaxy before I risk losing you" attitude. A romance can certainly exist without these things!

For more detail about attachment/non-attachment, I'd recommend this post and this post.

Sure!

Lineage isn't, to my knowledge, used in any source material, but it's commonly used in the fandom to refer to "lines" of Jedi teaching - i.e., Yoda - Dooku - Qui-Gon - Obi-Wan - Anakin - Ahsoka are all considered part of the same lineage, because each was the padawan of the previous.

Cross-lineage, in this case, just means something outside of that Master-Padawan structure/"line". For example, in TCW, there are episodes where Ahsoka is learning from Luminara Unduli, or Aayla Secura, or Tera Sinube instead of Anakin or Obi-Wan. Cross-lineage mentorship would be something like that, where a padawan (or any Jedi) is learning from someone that's not their master or their master's former master, etc.

Is it alright to participate via our ocs? Cuz I’ve got a couple jedi and I don’t actually write much with canon characters. Just curious :)

OCs are absolutely welcome!

Jedi June 2023 Masterpost

@jedijune 2023 marked my one-year aniversary of writing for Star Wars!

I really went all-out with 7 fills over five weeks, mostly drabbles but also a surprise ficlet and a described comic (I still wish I had the skill to draw it). I particularly enjoy that Jedi June inspires more meta fills.

Fills

Wk 1: guidance | Facilitated Free Will | drabble poem | Jedi & the Force The right person, in the right place, at the right time can change the course of history. The question is how.

Wk 1: knighting | Playing Pretend | drabble | Haja Estree The Jedi may be gone, but lifetimes of legacy are harder to erase.

Wk 2: diplomacy | "Convince Me" | drabble | Jedi OC The duty of a Jedi Master is to teach, and to provide their Padawan with opportunities to practice their lessons. And a Jedi never stops learning.

Wk 3: visions | Offering Context | drabble | Sifi-dyas Star Wars loves its echoing imagery, so what if Sifo-Dyas didn’t just have visions of the Clone Wars, but also of the Empire and even the New Order? What if he tried to treat them as alternate futures, rather than sequential?

Wk 4: focus | Training Exercises | double drabble | 212th members There are multiple methods of practicing a new skill. Some are more fun than others.

Wk 4: gathering | Tea Party | comic image description [230 words] | Obi-wan & 212th members All Obi-wan wanted was to relax with his tea. Then company arrived… and kept coming.

Wk 5: tragedy averted | Guess Who | fanfic [680 words] | Jedi High Council members The Jedi Council has reached a dead end in their search for the Sith. At this point, they might as well just start throwing around whatever names they can think of. With the Force itself weighing in, this proves to be a more successful approach than anticipated.

Week 5 of @jedijune Prompt: Tragedy Averted (got it in before midnight!)

It's the last day of June but I have one more post in me for @jedijune but it's a little different. The goal of Jedi June is to appreciate the Jedi, but this time I'm appreciating them in a more meta sense.

I saw Attack of the Clones in 2002 as a wee lil preteen and as soon as I laid eyes on the Jedi, I instantly wanted to be one. I wanted a cool lightsaber and space adventures like many a kid, of course. But I was also hitting those awkward teenage years and all that comes with it and I had no words for it, but I knew I was experiencing it different than my peers. I only heard "gay/queer" as an insult or an opportunity to be bullied or even murdered. I wouldn't hear "asexual" until after college. But I knew that more than anything I wanted to imagine being a Jedi because then I would never have to get married. (Also: they had girls. My sister and I watched the AotC VHS over and over and over again and memorized every single frame that had Aayla and Shaak Ti and Bultar Swan and Luminara Unduli and Barriss Offee. Even though you had to be a thin, pretty girl, girls still got to be Jedi.)

And on top of all of that, I was supposed to be too old for toys but I still wanted to make stories. So I took my happy ass and my allowance money to Borders and bought this:

This, here, is Baby's First Fanfiction and Fanart. I wouldn't fall in love with LotR until January 2003. So this is where I got my start as a writer and artist of characters. (I drew all the time since I could hold a pencil, but mostly dinosaurs and animals.) I loved writing and drawing before, but it was the Jedi that first catapulted me into what I've become as a fan artist and fanfic writer now.

So for fun I dug out Baby's First Jedi OCs and decided to draw them with twenty-one more years of art skills:

Jedi June - Tragedy Averted

I firmly believe that if Padmé had told Obi-Wan about Anakin's dreams, then everything would have ended well, since the Jedi Council already knows about Anidala, and have exploited this throughout the Clone Wars

Thank you so much @jedijune for hosting this amazing event!

Guess Who

Also on AO3 [680 words] For @jedijune - week 5: tragedy averted Inspired by The Guessing Game by Kelpie_Mist

Master Vos shrugs at the assembled Council members.

“That’s all we’ve got. We know that the Sith has been playing a long game. We know that they have ties to the Separatists, if only through Dooku. We know that they have high-level influence or authority in the Senate and the GAR. We know that there is a growing Darkness centred on this hemisphere of Coruscant. But beyond that, we’re at a dead end. We’d have just as much luck throwing darts at a list of names. A list consisting, mind you, of half the Senate, two-thirds of the GAR admiralty, and most of the adults in the Order. I’ll keep looking, but at this point we need a miracle.”

Master Vos leaves, and there is a long moment of silence as the Council processes the situation. It is hard not to feel hopeless.

“Very well then, if we are all to be suspects, I accuse Ki-Adi of being the Sith Lord. You stole the last seaweed cookie in the refectory yesterday. Surely a sign of great evil.”

No.

Everyone jumps as the Force chimes in response to Kit’s joke, chuckles running around the room as the tension breaks.

“Really Master Fisto, what an accusation! How does the saying go, ‘you snooze, you lose’? If we are attempting wild guessing now, then we might as well start at the top. Master Yoda, just how long have you been hiding as a Sith in our midst?”

Jedi June: New Jedi Order in my AU

To end the month celebrating the Jedi Order, I offer you the various characters who are part of the New Jedi Order in my hybrid Star Wars AU. Some are familiar faces, some are my own creations. Some come from the Order as it was, come are the faces of the Order as it has become. But no matter who they are or where they come from, all are Jedi. All are one with the Force, and the Force is with them.

May the Force be with you...Always.
