With Éomer securing him from above, Pippin felt a lot safer, and new hope made his heart beat lighter. He had started to suspect that climbing into the well hadn’t been such a good idea after all, but now he was fairly sure both he and the kitten would make it out alive and he had done the right thing. Slowly, his fingers shaking with exertion, Pippin let go of the rope with one hand and reached down, down into the darkness, until his fingertips touched something wet and furry, which was undoubtedly the kitten. It started mewling louder now, surely noticing that someone had come to its rescue, and Pippin blindly gripped its fur, not caring if he hurt it, because the only thing that mattered now was that they got out of the well alive.
He pulled the poor animal up to his chest and hugged it close to his shirt, feeling it cling to him with small, clawed paws. The poor thing was shaking and soaking wet, and Pippin tilted his head to whisper a few words of comfort into its ear. ”It’s a’right noo. I’ve got ye. Not lettin’ go of ye.” He looked up, his left hand slowly losing its grip on the rope. His palm was sore and slippery, and Pippin suspected that he had started bleeding. “I’ve got it! Pull me up!” he called, his voice strained and desperate. He wanted to get back to sunlight and fresh air, now.
Éomer could not see if the hobbit managed to reach the kitten or not but at Pippin's request he began to pull the halfling up. Thankfully hobbits were not as heavy as a grown men would have been and soon he saw Pippin's unruly locks. Both the animal and the hobbit were soaked and shivering, Éomer pitied them.
"Alright." With a groan the last pull was done and then he set Pippin onto the grass, then wiped his forehead. "Let me see your hand. I think you chafed it."
Removing his cloak, the Eorling enveloped the tiny kitten in the warm fabric, hoping the cold water and the distress was not too much for the tiny being. He gently rubbed it dry and warmed it a little, the mewling turned a little more quiet and content.
