I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

so we've been rewatching FT with our roomie who hasn't seen it and we finally got through the Nirvana Arc and I was just flatly smacked in the face and reminded how hard they wanted to lean into the "Laxus and Cobra aren't REAL dragonslayers, they're ARTIFICAL ew gross." Like even Makarov and Brain were in agreement on that.

Even despite the other dragonkids looking at them like "there is ANOTHER DOG standing outside across the street bark bark bark >:o" the narrative was still like "whoops I can't believe it's not a Real Dragon! :)))))))"

only for that to get tossed out the window later in the series to the point where Acnologia was like "Nah these still count towards my dragon kill streak"

like imagine having your identity/what you are invalidated by your family/caregiver/unethical owner etc for so long and then having the fucking harbinger of the dragonpocalypse validate you lmao

the fact that you guys are trying to have ship wars in the year of our lord 2024 is just laughable

Ryoko Kui draws fat people with tenderness, honesty, and dignity in a way I've never seen before from other manga and anime. She's not afraid to draw people like me the way I look with the same care and respect she does all her characters.
