Some Kind Of Bad Luck

Dean was, admittedly, just as rough and grumpy as Enzo had suspected he would be. The feeling he was putting off was not a kind one and there for a few seconds he considered not revealing who and what he was. He could easily walk out of this weird giant bunker they called a home and never look back. It would be easy to pretend he hadn’t found their rightful king but bloody hell he wasn’t one to let people suffer.
Heaving a sigh he sat up and looked at Dean considering his words for a moment before deciding just to lay it all out there and let the man adjust as needed.
“I’m here because you’re the only one who can help me—and I                     need your bloody help.”
If the legends of Dean Winchester told it right the human had come into their world fighting tooth and nail against being captured. Even through his forced submission he had somehow managed to pull a gun and kill their old king before making his way back to the human realm. He had left chaos and destruction in his wake, a radical revolution had taken place around his name, and he’d become King in the hearts of their people….and he’d never come back.
Sitting here before him now Enzo wondered if those legends and rumors held any truth to them. Dean Winchester looked like every other human he had ever come up against and if he was harboring even an ounce of their magic inside of him it was too far repressed to see even a glimmer of it.
“My names Enzo, I’m a pixie shifter and I know you’re not a                      fan of my kind but we really need to talk mate.”
The last word was tense, stressed as he said it. My lord was the automatic title perched on his lips but it was too soon to say it, too soon to let Dean know what was needed of him.

When he had given the question of what the hell do you want he have never expected an answer at least not from the moving lips of the cat in front of him. Even less than that had he expected the cat to tell him he needed his help and if that all hadn’t been one hell of a doozey he had not seen coming the cat then went on to say it was a pixie shifter. Of course it was. Of course he was dealing with that again. Just when he had thought to himself he hadn’t seen anything from that realm and then bam here was a fucking pixie shifter.

Turning around he walked out the door hand running down his face. He hated this, already he hated it, just the thought of that world made his skin crawl. He ran his hand down his face again, the heel of his hands digging in to his eyes as he took a deep breath and walked back to the door.

“We can talk but I need you out of my room. I need you off my bed                      and out there on a chair or the table or somethin’.”

He couldn’t have the pixie invading his space. He could understand it needing help and he could look into that but first he needed him not o be all up in space.

“And can you shift out of that or do we have to do this as a cat?”

He wasn’t sure he cared in the long run, it was gonna suck either way. He was dealing with a pixie from Avalon. What wasn’t there to hate?

Adjusting

                    “I texted him.”
He hadn’t heard back though but with Cas that wasn’t always the weirdest thing. Sometimes Cas just didn’t check his texts. Sam would try again tomorrow or sometime later tonight.
Almost on cue there was a ruffle of wings behind them and again Sam really wasn’t shocked. Dean had asked for Cas, of course Cas was going to show up. It was how the pair of them worked a food 90% of the time.
“I tried to fix it but I can’t.”
Sam frowned at that and turned on the couch to look over the back of it, his mouth hanging open in shock at what he saw.
                      “Holy shit Cas!”
The last thing he had been expecting was to see Cas standing there in a trenchcoat suddenly four sizes too big for his kid size vessel.

Dean could feel a frown on his lips when Sam said that he had texted Cas, he assumed that meant that he hadn’t heard back from the angel which sucked. He wanted to make sure he wasn’t made at him and until he knew that he was going to worry over his friend not talking to him. The next second however he heard wings and moved to sit up, setting his pizza to the side.

                   “CAS!”

The words sounded as shocked as he felt and he was sure that his face matched.

“Why are you a kid Cas?”

He still sounded shocked and he didn’t care, not as he moved to sit on the arm of the couch so he could see the angel better. The small angel at that. He didn’t know how or why he had done it and he thought that if it was because of him Cas was gonna be pissed. He looked pissed and he couldn’t blame him. His coat didn’t fit him anymore. He was glad Sammy had insisted they go shopping cause Cas was gonna need some new clothes. His hadn’t shrunk down like his own had.

The Lance Of Michael

Half an hour later and Sam was officially annoyed.
Dean should have been out already and Sam was hating himself for even letting his brother return to the Bunker. This was stupid, it was clearly the lance that had done something to him and he’d let Dean walk back inside like it was no big deal at all. Why he had done that he’d never known but now he was sitting there in the war room waiting and waiting.
Pushing himself to his feet he headed down the hall and paused outside of Dean’s door. He could clearly hear movement inside which meant Dean was still alive, he guess that was good cause he was going to hate himself if he’d just sat around and let Dean die without noticing.
                    “Dean, hey you ready yet?”
His fingers knocked on the wooden door before dropping back to his side as he fell silent waiting for a reply.
If Dean was back to working on that lance Sam was going to kill him, literally. He was going to take it and shove it deep in the archives of the Bunker basement where Dean wouldn’t be able to find it anymore. Hell maybe he would burn the thing or something.
“Dean come on man, answer me or I’m coming in. I won’t even care if                       you’re still drying off of not.”

Dean was intent on his work, fingers turning the lance over as he looked over the symbols carved into them. They were so detailed, neat, and meticulous. They looked as if they had been branded into the wood and he thought he could feel their power as his fingers moved other them with his left hand, his right moving to copy what he felt on the paper. There had to be hundreds of them and he didn’t think that he would get them done ever. Yet he knew he had to try.

Something about the lance called to him and he knew he should be worried about that. After the issues he had with the first blade and then again with the book of the damned he knew … he wondered if the book of the damned had these runes in them. Maybe he could get Sammy to let him have a sneak peak at it.

When he was finished with the last rune, he pushed his chair back and stood up rubbing his palms on his thighs as they burned. It was weird but he assumed it was because he just hadn’t sat down to write anything in that quantity since high school. He slipped the paper in his pocket and opened the door, shocked to see Sammy standing there.

“Hey. So I was thinking, do you remember seeing any runes in the                      book of the damned?”

He asked the question as if he hadn’t heard his brother pounding on the door which honestly he hadn’t and stepped out around him tugging it shut as he went.

It’s A Real Funky Town

Sam wasn’t going to comment, he wasn’t going to get mad, he was going to ignore the fact that Dean had to talk to Cas because he was a weak baby that needed a chaser when Dean could just down a mouthful of whiskey no issue. Sam wasn’t jealous, he wasn’t anything at all.
Taking the drink he took and sip and nodded.
                     “Yeah, that’s much more tolerable.”
He grinned a bit bashfully as he looked down at the drink and his fingers curled around it.
“Jeez Dean, when did you ever start drinking? I mean, you’ve gotta be                       use to that stuff if you can drink it like that.”
Sam was again stuck with how different their lives were and his mind supplied the thought, rather unhelpfully, that Cas was probably better suited to being friends with Dean than he was. He’d seen Cas take shots like a pro before, like Dean before.

Dean poured himself another splash of whiskey into his glass and tipped it back, sucking in some air after wards to clear the eat from his mouth as he thought about Sam’s questions.

“I think I was like ten or something, maybe almost eleven. John’s a                      drunk so the stuff just stayed around the house. I got nosey enough                      one night and liked the way it made me feel. Just been doing it ever                      since.”

He gave Sam a small shrug as if it was no big deal for a ten year old to be drinking. He knew it was wrong but it was his life and he couldn’t change that. He was on the drink now and it helped him cope. He wasn’t a drunk like John at least so he had that going for him, if it was the only thing he had.

“There’s other stuff you might like better, rum’s good, if I got you                      tequila you prolly wouldn’t be able to walk to the car.”

He flashed Sammy a grin and finished off his shot, pouring a second and tipping the bottle to Sam to see if he wanted more in his cup.

Hoping For A Better Life

Following Dean back behind the counter Gabe paused and thought about it, still trying to wrap his mind around the thought of this place. It really wasn’t anything like anyplace he had been before and he’d been a lot of places. It was just different and yeah ok so maybe if he’d come out here on his own he wouldn’t have found it to be near as intolerable as he was making it out to be.
“You wouldn’t happen to have some cotton candy vodka back                        there would you? Probably not, ok just a regular whiskey is fine.”
It was well known that cotton candy vodka was hard to find. It was one of those expensive drinks that was only available to those who had enough money to spend on drinks. It wasn’t the sort of drink you could find out here for cheap. He knew he was spoiled, did he like it? Nope. But he was a St. Milton and that was how life was for them.

Dean pulled down the whiskey off the shelf and two glasses opening it up and pouring some out for them both. He didn’t know what Gabe was talking about with cotton candy vodka. He’d never had it, hell he hadn’t even seen it and he was sure if he hadn’t then Ellen hadn’t so there wasn’t a chance it would be found here in the road house.

“Sorry man. I can so vodka if you would prefer but I don’t think we                      have cotton candy vodka out here.”

He felt a little bad about it, he would have like to have had it for the kid but he couldn’t make what he couldn’t make. Instead he passed him the glass of whiskey and put tucked the bottle under his arm.

                     “To new Roadhouse guests.”

He reached out tapping the rim of his glass against Gabe’s and took a sip swallowing the shot down easy, letting out a small hiss when he was done. Damn he loved that stuff.

“Alright let’s get some grub and check out the stars. Might as well                       take in the sights while you can.”

He flashed Gabe a grin and led him back into the kitchen, setting his bottle and glass on the counter as he started pulling food from the fridge.

“We have pork chops and mac and cheese that I made, some lasagna                       Jo made. It’s white lasagna whatever that is and… oh shepards pie I                       made. Any of those sound good?”

No Place Like Home

Dean was looking exhausted and Michael was glad he was taking a seat. Just because he was home didn’t mean he needed to be carrying on like he hadn’t just had major surgery done. The only thing stopping him was the fact that it was Adam and he knew how excited the kid was to have Dean back home with them.
                    “I did no such thing.”
He offered Dean a small knowing smile as Adam set about getting out the monstrosity of a not-cheesecake so that Dean could try it. In truth he had spoiled Adam, he hadn’t meant to but honestly he would do anything and everything to ensure his happiness. Even that meant dealing with not-cheesecakes.
“Here, you’re going to love it.”
Adam was grinning brightly as he set a plate with a large slice of cheesecake on it in front of Dean.
“We were going to bring you up a slice at the hospital but                     Michael said we couldn’t that it would melt. And that also                     Raphael would slaughter us for bringing you something                     so unhealthy.”
He grinned and put the cheesecake back in the fridge before climbing onto the stool next to Dean and across from Michael.

Dean pulled the plate forward and picked up the fork taking a huge bite of the cheesecake and shoving in his mouth. It was just as horrible as he thought it would be. The cereal had gone a little mushy while in the fridge with all cheesecake and dampness, the flavor had spread throughout the stuff and made it some weird flavor of cheese and sugar and generally it was something he would never ever eat again. However in the spirit of Adam’s excitement he let out a long moan, closing his eyes as he mushed it around and swallowed it down like he would with any food.

                   “Dude.”

He licked his lips and nodded, scarffing another bite and giving another moan of approval.

“I would have never thought to put these two together but this                     is awesome.”

It was an easy lie to keep his little brother happy as he pointed his fork at it, and scooped up another bite.

“What do you think it would taste like with coco pebbles?

He knew damn well how. It was awful. Michael may not have been right about how horrible it was based on how it was made but he was right about it being bad.

Mucking About The Bunker

That….was nothing like Castiel had been expecting.
He knew the basic functions of intercourse and how it was done. He knew the reactions it caused in humans and that it was meant to bring pleasure. He hadn’t expected for it to be the same for him or for his pleasure receptors to be buried so deep inside of him. It was thrilling, exciting, and the android knew he was going to want more of that feeling.
A gasp left his lips, surprise flaring through him as he was picked up and settled back against Dean this time in the chair. Wiggling his hips he groaned, ass clenching against the feeling of Dean’s come inside of him and his own slick. He was aware, somewhere deep in the recesses of his databanks, that he shouldn’t enjoy that feeling near as much as he was.
“I didn’t know it would feel like that.”
The answer was honest and genuine. He had thought Dean would find pleasure in him and he was more than willing to offer him that, but Castiel had not expected to find the same for himself. It was a fact he couldn’t lie about.

Dean let out a soft moan as the android wiggled around in his lap on his sensitive dick, hands gripping his lips just a little tighter. He didn’t know that the android didn’t think he would take pleasure from this, maybe if he had he wouldn’t have started.

                     “So your reactions, all this…”

He gestured to the spunk still coating his chest and stomach as he spoke.

“Was real and not you putting on a show for me?”

That sounded vain but it also sounded like what the android was telling him. He hadn’t thought he would enjoy and yet he had offered. He was really glad he did like it though and it made him wonder once again just how special this android was from the others he had met.

It was nice knowing that Dean could understand and on some level relate. It wasn’t often many people could and instead would only tell him to try harder or a different approach. They didn’t understand that sometimes there wasn’t one, sometimes you just had to be a good son and follow the orders given to you. Michael was a good son, he tried to do as father asked, and still he had ended up being sent away where he couldn’t cause any trouble to the company.
He returned the smile Dean gave him and shifted his attention to Jo when she returned with breakfast and drinks in hand.
“Hey Dean. Alright, two pig in a poke platters and two black coffee’s.                       Let me know if you all need refill ok.”
Michael noted the warm smile she gave to Dean before moving away from the table again, this time heading to meet a new group that had just walked in.
                      “This looks—interesting.”
Interesting enough he should take a picture and send to Lucifer just to see the kids reaction to what he was eating out here.

Dean let out a breath he had been holding while Jo was there and relaxed back in his booth, glad the weird feeling in his stomach was gone again with her. He was also really glad he hadn’t spilled anything or knocked something over or tripped. Tripping was a big one that happened at school when he wouldn’t know she was around.

Reaching up he picked up his coffee and took a sip giving a node.

“Interesting but delicious right? I promise it tastes amazing. “

He really did hope that Michael liked it and wasn’t going to hate the dish he had picked. He would feel terrible if he brought him all the way out here in his fancy car to get some awesome food only for him to hate it. That would suck really hard and he was already trying to come up with ways to make it up to him.

“It’s even better covered in butter and syrup.”

He offered the words with a small shrug as he picked up the cup of butter it came with and spread it over the pancake part before dumping some syrup on it watching as it spread out towards the bacon which was just as delicious covered in it.

Of Golden Wings

Having his wings clear and free of the decorations that had been weighing them down left Michael feeling a little more relaxed and free. They were still heavy and his back still ached under the feeling of them, his body not used to carrying them without the assistance of his grace. It was an improvement though and the second Dean mentioned they were done Michael was shifting to dip them in the water.
Looking over his shoulder he caught sight of Dean, pondered his words, and shook his head. The human was fine where he was, he was fine watching. They both knew what was required of them in this situation and therefore becoming familiar with each other only made sense.
Spreading out his wings Michael ruffled them, feathers shaking water from them and extra oil as they fell in to place. Grooming himself wasn’t always the prettiest of affairs and though Dean had done an excellent job for being his first time there were still things Michael needed to fix. Again looking over his shoulder he attempted to fix a few things, his body twisting and turning, water splashing everywhere as he did.
When he fixed what was needed he settled down, turning to face Dean as he sunk down into the water to take some stress off of the wings and his back.
“I’m sure that sort of display was what they were hoping to avoid                     with the cage.”
Looking down he felt his face heat up and could only sit there as it happened knowing he didn’t have the grace to control it.

Dean watched Michael as he moved and splashed around in the bath moving his wings every which way as he tried to get them clean and sorted. He wondered what it would be like to have them as he watched, reaching out to collect the few feathers that floated his way setting them to the side with the others.

“I think the cage was just cause they are dicks.”

He offered it with a grin so Michael knew he didn’t need to be embarrassed over it. He didn’t mind what he was doing, he was an angel they were prone to doing weird things or at least weird to people without wings.

“Can I ask you a personal question?”

He knew it would be weird but it was what they were supposed to do. It was a thing that had to happen no matter how much they both hated it. They had to make a kid in order to save the dudes brother and seal this peace treaty. In his opinion it was better to just do it and get it under way. It was a question about how angels worked in that regards that he was having issues with.

“This whole kid thing. How does that work? I mean. I heard rumors of                      how it works, that you have to be in heat or something. Is that true?                      Sorry if that is too personal.”

Feather In The Wind

For so long Castiel had wanted to kiss Dean, always waiting for the right moment or a sign that Dean even wanted it from him. He knew how Dean was, how hard it was for him to connect to people emotionally. It wasn’t easy but Castiel had loved him for so long that now that the moment was here he wasn’t going to waist it.
Only hours ago he had almost been dead, he had almost died without Dean knowing how he truly felt and now he was getting to show him. It was perfect and he happily let himself be kissed, allowing Dean to take as much from him as he wanted until his human needed to breath.
Leaning back from the kiss Castiel stayed close enough to rest his forehead against Dean’s.
                    “Sorry…for what?”
A frown creased his features and he sat back from Dean further, his arms shifting to settled over the humans shoulders as he stayed practically seated on his lap.

Dean closed his eyes as he felt Cas shifting around, his arms around his neck. He was warm and close and he could feel his hands moving without permission, one dropping to the angel’s hip the other still on his face, thumb stroking over the stubble on his cheek.

                    “I don’t know.”

The words were soft, a breath against the angels lips as he swallowed roughly. He needed to stop what he was doing, he was on a ledge he couldn’t come back from if he pushed past it and he so wanted to push past it. Dean let his hand on the angels hips trace up his side and up his arm to join the other on his neck thumbs tracing his jaw line.

“The thing you said, when you were dying.”

Way to hold a dying man to his words. Words he didn’t even know if he could say out loud.

“I feel the same Cas and I’m sorry that I can’t tell you that. I should                    be able to but, I can’t. I don’t know how and every time I try they,                    they just stick in my throat. I do though and I know I shouldn’t because                    you’re an angel, I shouldn’t do this to you.”

Dean pulled back, leaning back against the headboard.  It had been the one thing he had reasoned with himself over and over again. He was human, he would die and Cas would not. This wasn’t something he should do to him, It wasn’t fair. He had known for years how Cas felt and every second of that he had shared in those feelings and it was fine that it was one sided. It would hurt the angel when he was gone but nothing like being together would.

“Your it for me Cas, your end game and I am sorry I let you know.”

Ugh Oh Spaghetti O’s

It was sad to hear Dean thinking about leaving. Castiel had really been enjoying his company and having him around. It had made the slowest part of his night all that more enjoyable and he mentally cursed the fact that people were having to show up for things now.
                    “I do.”
Was that too enthusiastic? Castiel felt like it was and he didn’t want to scare Dean off from coming back by looking too eager for his company. It was a sad mark of how alone he often felt and really was in the town.
“I come in for nine but won’t be alone till ten, you can come by any time.”
It still sounded desperate, eager, like he was chomping at the bit for Dean to agree to coming back around. Castiel knew he needed to relax, seem a little less weird or apologize or something. Dean wasn’t even his friend, they’d just talked this one time.
“Or not, there is no expectation if you don’t want to come back. I hope you                      want to, if that’s not weird to say.”
He looked down and shuffled his feet nervously.

Dean was glad to hear that Cas was not only going to work the next night but that he was invited to come back and hang out. He liked that he had something to look forward to. He wasn’t sure what it was about Cas/ Steve that he liked but he did. He was just calming to be around and nice. He liked nice people and it was something he didn’t see around much.

“Are you gonna have honey tomorrow?”

He knew it was a dumb questions but he knew how to make biscuits and he wanted to make Cas some in order to thank him for the stuff today. He knew there was flour and butter at home. Those were things John didn’t touch and so long as he could find some time when John wasn’t home he could get them done and packed up before he knew he had done it.

As far as Castiel was concerned Dean was the lesser of two evils. Sure the man was a killer, he was confusing and clearly had a mean streak in him that showed on a whim. These were things Castiel could adjust to however, these were things he would learn to adapt to just as he had learned to adapt to Dick’s moods and his way of life.
In short it beat living on the street or falling into the grasps of the Leviathan’s. Dean was his best shot at maintaining his safety and that’s all Castiel cared about anyways. Everything else in life was fairly moot and pointless so long as he was safe.
                     “I would like that.”
That felt like the wording that Dean was asking for and Castiel felt proud of himself for saying it and for making a decision on the matter. He thought he could still tell Dean he didn’t want to be there with him and it be fairly acceptable, but he wasn’t going to risk it.
                     “Where are we going?”

Dean had thought that was what Cas was gonna say. He didn’t think that he would be able to convince him that someone else, some other home would be better for him or that just going home would be a better option than what he could give him. Regardless of what he wanted to do he had let him choose for himself and now he was going to be his. He didn’t know how long it would last or what would come of them but he at least knew that the homeless slave, a title he had caused was safe from the Leviathan.

                    “Home.”

He flashed Cas a grin as he looked over at him and then back to the road.

“My brother and I, we live in a bunker about 30 minutes past the outpost                     which is about 50 miles out of the city.”

He wasn’t sure how Cas felt about being so far out but he thought the guy wouldn’t mind to much.

“It’s free from the rules of the city and completely Leviathan free as well.                     It’s nice out there. You can even see the stars. You ever seen the stars                     Cas?”

Feather In The Wind

This time Castiel hadn’t been expecting anything more. He had wanted Dean to know he meant it when he expressed his gratitude and he had a feeling he got the point across fairly well when Dean’s lips were pressing against his.
A low content sound, half between a growl and a sigh, rumbled from his throat when Dean pulled away from him and he found himself embarrassingly moving forward chasing after Dean’s lips. Opening his eyes he looked at Dean gauging his reaction and checking to see for escape routes in his eyes. When he didn’t see any he moved forward again letting the space between them close in another kiss.
Between them his hand pressed to Dean’s chest, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt to pull them closer together.
He liked that Dean felt warm and alive under his fingers, that he was here with him and not lost to himself in the emptiness that death promised him.

The last thing that Dean has expected after kissing the angel was to have Cas’ fingers curling in his shirt to pull him back into a kiss. He felt his heart leap up into his throat again when Cas’ lips pressed back against his. It was everything he had ever imagined it would be. The angel’s lips were soft and a little dry but nice, the skin below his fingers as they crept along his jaw scratching along the stubble he found there.

Dean kissed him and couldn’t stop not even as he gently tipped the angel’s head back, tongue moving along his bottom lip asking permission for more. He didn’t think that he could stop now that he was started or ever. He let his free hand, slide along the angel’s arm, slipping under the t-shirt to move along his warm skin as he explored his mouth.

He tasted like pizza and garlic butter and something warm underneath all that, a taste he thought was prolly all Cas. He had played this scene out a million times, watched himself kiss Cas a million ways and yet this way never happened. In its own it was new and perfect. When he was done exploring the angel’s mouth he place another soft kiss to his lips before pulling back gently.

There were words on his tongue, things he wanted to say to the angel, things he had always wanted to say to him but didn’t know how. He still didn’t.

                    “Sorry Cas.”

He didn’t know what he was sorry for, the things he needed to say in that moment and couldn’t, kissing him at all, not telling him he loved him back. He wasn’t sure witch but he thought the angel could prolly just take his pick.

Hoping For A Better Life

From the way Dean talked about this place it didn’t seem bad at all. Though it still wasn’t the city that he was so used to being a part of and it still felt like he was trapped out here in some ways. He reasoned that he basically was and even if Dean made it sound great that aspect alone made it suck.
As he talked Gabe filed away the facts on everyone that hung around the place making mental notes to remember them as best as possible. He was good with people, always had been, and he didn’t see why that should change now just because he was out there. Manners and knowing people always went a long way, Michael would call it networking.
“Drink, like drink drink or are you just talking water? Cause I could really go                      for an actual drink.”
Currently he was already much to sober for his own liking and if Dean was offering to fix that then hell yeah this was a rehab he could get behind being at. Then again water would suit him just as well and he was kind of in hopes it could jump start last nights potentially waisted high. Sometimes with demon’s blood water could do that.

Dean flashed Gabe a grin when he asked if was just asking about water or the hard stuff. The thing was, the kid had been found out of his head on Demon’s blood and he seemed to have no idea how bad he was gonna get when he was with drawling from it. Dean knew almost first hand. He’d been there holding Sam’s freezing body while he shivered, he’d been there for the hallucinations and he would be there for Gabe to, even if he thought he wouldn’t want anyone, even if he thought he would be fine. So as far as he was concerned letting the dude have a drink before all Hell broke loose inside his mind and his body was not a biggie.

                      “What’s your poison?”

He slid behind the bar pulling down two glasses and a whiskey bottle filling up one shot and downing it before filling up another.

The other thing was, around here and out in the outpost, whiskey was kind of like water, everyone out here drank and drank like damn fish. He didn’t think that anyone would care that Gabe had a drink or even a few. They all knew what would happen soon and they all would have done the same in his positions. Drugs could be a problem, drinking wasn’t considered one. They had all been through enough in their lives, drinking was just living and coping.

No Place Like Home

Adam grinned and shrugged his shoulders the best he could with Dean hugging him the way that he was. Maybe he had milked it a little towards the end when he knew that Dean was going to pull through, he might admit to that charge but nothing else. Besides he had a feeling Dean already knew that.
“Michael say’s it’s not real cheesecake because it’s made with whipped                     cream but I think it tastes just fine and he’s just being picky.”
Grinning as they rounded the corner he pitched his voice loud enough for Michael to hear earning a pretend look of annoyance from the eldest Milton.
“We’ve been over this Adam, it doesn’t count. Besides, what sort of                     decent adult would I be if I ate all your frutie pebble dessert?”
Shifting Addison in his arms he gestured to the dessert he’d already gotten out from the fridge. He knew Adam was excited for Dean to try it and would be going after it the second they’d come back out. Honestly he was just thrilled that the kid seemed to be in better spirits than when he’d left with Dean in the first place.
“The real trick has been keeping it from Gabe.”
Adam added grinning as he pulled away from Dean to start dishing him out a piece of the cheesecake monstrosity.

Dean was going to keep quite on the cheesecake argument. He liked it done either way and thought both were cheesecake, one was just easy cheese cake and the other hard but in the end they both tasted good. He wouldn’t tell either one however that he didn’t have a preference. He wasn’t getting in that fight, not when he had pie preference.

Walking over to Michael, he slipped his arms around him again pressing a kiss to the back of his neck.

“Thank you for taking care of him so well, even if you did spoil him a little.”

He left the words and another kiss before he pulled back to steal the stool beside them. He wasn’t in a bunch of pain, just little twinges when he would move wrong but he was tired. Too much of anything seemed to wear him out these days. He really hoped that was a side effect of surgery and not a side effect of the heart.

“Alright give me this cheesecake, you had me at fruity pebbles”

He was actually a little skeptical about it but he wasn’t’ about to tell Adam that. He wasn’t sure how the soft cheesecake was going to go with the crunchy cereal but if it made the kid happy he would eat every bite. He could cover it up with fries and pizza in a minute.

Knowing that at least Dean would give his family a good reception was something. He knew no one else would and wasn’t expecting it at all. It was how this place was, he’d come to accept that already and he’d been in town for less than a week.
“Yes it’s all a big deceptive trick.”
Laughing he relaxed back in the booth and shrugged his shoulders.
“Honestly I don’t know Dean. I have my hunches but that’s all they are.                    See, I should be helping Father in the city but I let him down. I pitched                    an idea for how to make the whole company more energy efficient and                    it didn’t go over well.”
Michael couldn’t swear to it but he had a feeling he had let Kingston down with it.
“Father, from what I can gather, was disappointed with the pitch and the                   direction I took it. Next thing I know I’m being shipped off here, made                   manager of our smallest plant. Notice though that I am tucked away far                   from the board meetings and inner workings of Milton Corp.”
Out here in Wolf Field he wasn’t any trouble for Kingston and the man could essentially write him off with little to worry about. It was insulting but Michael planned on making the best of it and turning the small plant in to something amazing.

Dean thought that sounded like something that his father would do. They had learned about green energy in class and he had the nerve to bring it up that night at the dinner table. He had regretted it.

“I know how that goes, we learned about it one time in class I brought it                     up at a dinner and dad just about had a cow, went on about how expensive                     it is just to be trendy. Here I thought it would just help us do less around                     there but hey what did I know. At least he couldn’t ship me off somewhere.”

He gave Michael a smile when he said it so he knew he was again just teasing him. He was glad Michael had been sent out here. He thought despite what the rest of the town did that Michael was cool and would make a good friend to have around. Looking up he caught site of Jo coming back over and tried to steal his nerves. Michael had said talk to her right, get to know her then he wouldn’t be so nervous. He could do that.

                      “Hey Jo.”

He gave her a smile when he said it making sure to keep his hands in his lap and far away from anything that could be spit or splashed or knocked over. Yet even though he wasn’t moving he felt nervous, his stomach doing flips inside him.
