You may mess up, but you’re not a mess up.
You may make a mistake, but you are not a mistake.
You may screw up, but you are not a screw up.
You may fail, but you are not a failure.
You are not your downfalls.

reminders for the overworked soul

  • you don’t need to be productive all the time
  • you don’t need to have productive breaks
  • expand your definition of “productive” to include non-academic things
  • don’t measure your worth by the number of things you do or how pretty your bujo is
  • remember to have fun and little breaks between work
  • you are studying/working to become more informed, to learn about the things that excite you - not to check off your to-do lists
  • you don’t need to monetise or make your hobbies productive; they are lovely on their own
  • you are lovely on your own

types of study breaks for every situation

if you realize you’ve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.

if you’re feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.

if you can’t seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. it’ll help bring you back.

if there’s something else going on in your life and you can’t get it off your mind: write down what’s going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. it’ll help you work things out.

if you’re just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll hit REM and you’ll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.

if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if there’s a crash course video online about it or draw out what you’re trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.

if people around you won’t shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they won’t absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.

if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend who’s not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.

this sounds a little bizarre at first, but it’s true that there are a lot of different and effective ways to put sticky notes to use! so, in case you were wondering what to do with those little post its sitting on the corner of your desk, here is an array of possibilities!!

textbook notes

  • sticky notes are incredibly useful when taking notes form a textbook
  • super nice guide
  • great step by step guide
  • and another amazing guide
  • watch this awesome video!

bookmarking

  • actually bookmark your book
  • bookmark important pages in a book like the index, glossary, etc
  • annotating!
  • mark those essential pages of your own notes, the ones with the definitions and formulas you know you need to look back at a lot

summarizing

organization

  • there are so many different methods for organization that could use these
  • of course, use them as reminders for anything and everything
  • color coding: papers, files, books, and more
  • make mini to-do lists, write down your tasks for the day!!
  • keep writing prompts, important formulas, or other necessary and factual information on sticky notes and put them on the wall in front of your desk
  • or in your notebook/binder/whatever-you-use so that you have them with you all the time!

remember this!

  • number your sticky notes when marking a book, it’ll keep you organized
  • also color code them
  • when taking notes use as many abbreviations and symbols as you can, there’s limited space!
  • they are small and they tend to get all over the place of you don’t stay organized, so make sure you know where they are
  • also remember to discard old sticky notes (when they’re no longer needed)

other awesome uses + info

more masterposts!!

i hope this was of help to you! keep shining like the star you are and remember to be awesome today!!

black people, please take care of yourselves. please take care of your health. please take care of your mind. please take care of your spirit.

i understand if your soul is not at peace. i understand if you are exhausted. just, please take care of yourselves in these dark, hateful times and surround yourself with people who understand why.

here are a few study tips on how to learn a new language 💻☺️:

1. start speaking as soon as possible. even when you haven’t learned too many words yet, the most important part of studying a language is not being afraid of using it. so download apps like hellotalk to get in touch with natives! of course, it’s even easier if you already have friends or family members speaking your target language.

2. study the most frequent words! there are tons of free so-called “frequency lists” online that prevent you from studying vocabulary you don’t need in the long run. with only 500 of the right words you could already have basic conversations!

3. get a lot of native exposure - through podcasts, videos and movies. there are so many recommendations on the internet, no matter what language you’re learning. the earlier you start immersing yourself in native material, even if it’s children’s books, the faster you’ll find yourself having fluent conversations!!

4. keep a weekly or daily diary to practice writing in your target language. even if it’s only composed of basic sentences, it’s the best way to use the vocabulary you’ve learned!

qotd: what language would you like to study next? i really look forward to studying Italian once I have a little bit more time!! 💕
