I'm realizing that Hawke as a name is ruined to me while watching a movie on Netflix the other day and meeting this Captain Hawke, or playing Beyond Eden and meeting this Lady Hawke, and so on.
I can't even pay attention to the subplot involving these characters, because the whole time I'm just doing that "hmmmm" meme face, like hmmmm that's not Hawke... :\
I don't remember seeing a Trevelyan or Cousland out in the wilds before but they're supposed to be reasonably common names too? I'm probably gonna schreech the first time I run into one in other media too, heh.

Some recs of my favorite fics from the Darkest Night Exchange collection this year. (note that this is a darkfic exchange, so proceed at your discretion) We All Must Go (VLD, Shiro/Keith) Summary: Here’s another thing he doesn’t know what to do with: the moment he gets to the training deck, Keith appears out of the cool night cycle shadows, quiet and almost smiling like they’d arranged this meeting beforehand and look at that, Shiro, here I am just in time. Nocturne of an Empty Mirror (original work, child & monster) Summary: You cannot stay awake forever to protect yourself from the night. Not unless you're willing to go a step further and become part of the darkness. Minds That Have To Whisper See In Them A Sister (original work, f/f vampire/vampire hunter) Summary: Marcela is about to turn around, end her midnight stroll through the village and head back to her grandmother's house, when she sees the silhouette of another person hurrying down the street ahead of her. A woman, young and slender, her long blond hair looking almost white with the moonlight glinting off it. Marcela calls out to her before she can stop herself. Rec Notes: there's a common theme here of hallucinations, voices, insomnia and intrusive dreams, which wasn't on purpose, but it's one of those story elements I really enjoy. In all three of them I like the style of the writing as much as the story itself, in that it's intriguing and somewhat vague on purpose, implying without showing everything, insinuating the story in ways that leave me wondering. Good stuff.

Of course his actual words were, “If they don’t show more Keith, I’m not watching season 5!” But I’m sure he’ll be back more. It’s just too bad that my son’s and my fave characters are vying for same lion. His preferred solution now is Keith back in the Red Lion.

Color ocd aside, I would prefer Keith back in the red lion and Shiro back in black ((insert guitar riff)) too as the pilot endgame in this version, because I'm still too hung up on the concept they introduced early on of the lions forming particular bonds with the paladins, on the times Red bolted across the galaxy to save Keith, and on the whole subplot in S2 of Shiro earning his bond with black and then proving his bond to be stronger than Zarkon’s in the end. This last one specially is an open thread that still needs resolution, I think, if only because... if Shiro wasn’t meant to be Black’s pilot after all, then I really don’t get the point of that whole arc. Time will tell indeed!
(In any case, if I can’t have Keith back in Red, I would also accept the endgame of Shiro and Keith realizing their friendship is on drift-compatible levels, pulling a Pacific Rim AU and co-piloting Black together, like Pidge and Matt co-piloted Green this season. The rules never said it was only one pilot per lion! ;P)
also: everyone has that one irrelevant minor character with two and a half lines who they will go to war for, and if u think I wouldn’t die for this asshole

Everyone chooses an irrelevant hill to die on and I guess this is gonna be mine, then: VLD is not badly written. It’s just not written as you expect a cartoon to be.
