So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)

fathers casually dropping the craziest lore of their lives in the middle of a conversation

My brother and I trying to piece together our dad’s life based on random info he casually brings up once and then never mentions again

When my great grandpa was on his deathbed my grandpa (his son) was with him and says his last words were “I told them they shouldn’t have hanged that woman. Well by damn they’re paying now” and no one in my family knows what the fuck that means

My grandmother was harassing me about the dangers of online dating, and my grandpa was like, “Oh fer crying out loud, leave her alone. My parents met online, she’ll be fine.” Apparenly my great grandparents were both telegraph operators who would chat over the line in between messages and fell in love and my great grandma moved halfway across the country to marry a dude she met over the telegraph.

No one alive in the family had ever heard this story until like 70+ years later when I happened to start seeing a dude from OK Cupid.

We were driving through Old Country once and my grandpa Sasha randomly went “oh this is where we blew up that bridge as kids, I guess it got rebuilt”

Every successful revolutionary movement must posses in its vanguard not only a fighting army, but also an army of labour.

The fighting army is an armed body of the vanguard party, tasked with carrying out political work. The army of labour consists of the class-conscious, active revolutionaries engaged not in warfighting, but production. During higher stages of revolution, this may entail running wartime industry and infrastructure, but in early stages has much more in common and with unionisation tactics, and is done in connection with labour unions themselves.

Further, all revolutionary fighting armies must also be, in some part, productive armies, armies of labour (so as to maintain themselves, build up their own base areas and infrastructure, etc). While revolutionary movements possessing only armies of labour (in the case of more backwards organisations), is common; the counterpart, of supposed revolutionary movements with a dedicated political corps but absolutely zero connection to the masses (and therby no army of labour), is tending to become equally as common.

The immediate task of the proletarian vanguard, in such a deteriorated political environment, is not just training with guns or spending the weekend "innawoods". It is, principally, building up the ranks of the army of labour to such a degree that they can politically support a fighting army when the time for one comes about.

Left-side images: People's Liberation Army disaster relief. Right side images: U.S. response to Hurricane Katrina.

Note, that the PLA does not carry weapons when it deploys for disaster relief, since its goal is straightforwardly to rescue and rebuild. The US sends armoured vehicles and infantry squads, because its goal is 'peacekeeping' - defending property, both government and private. Defending it from whom? Why, the victims of the disaster, who are all cast as a dangerous group of looters, violent preppers, fanatical murderers, and the like - because their needs for food and freshwater to live come into contradiction with Target's need for its stores' profits. When that happens, the US sides with Target, and sends men with guns.

Cults are not just a white people thing. Especially in the US, predatory high control groups actively target disenfranchised people, especially immigrant populations who don't have the best grasp of English, and entered the country with a head full of American exceptionality propaganda.

I have several close friends whose parents moved to the states, unknowingly got involved with a pyramid scheme, and lost a ton of money in the process. It's not an uncommon story.

To add insult to injury, the groups can often be made of other immigrants. So leaving the group means losing access to the only local community that speaks your first language.

I cant believe this tweet is how I find out

now all the things you guys have told me about american high schools are starting to make sense

holy shit.

It's 100% because of abusers parents and guardians who want to deprive their children of a secular upbringing and indoctrinate them into whatever nonsense they believe in, as well as discipline them however they see fit and exploit them for money.

Specifically, Articles 13 and 14 are concerned with the freedom of expression, the freedom to seek out, receive, and impart information, and the freedom of thought, conscience, and religion. Article 17 concerns access to mass media of both national and international origin. Article 19 concerns protecting children from abuse and neglect. Article 24 concerns access to healthcare. Article 28 concerns access to education, and Article 29 further stipulates that education should promote tolerance and respect of other people and cultures. Article 32 protects children from economic exploitation.

In the USA, the land of the free, we can't have any of that! If a parent believes the outside world is evil and wants to keep their kids from reading books that aren't about how God will send them to Hell for speaking out of turn, they have that freedom! If a parent believes that medicine is evil and wants to keep their kid from being vaccinated or put their kid on a raw meat diet or use homeopathy to treat an inflamed appendix, they have that freedom! If a parent wants to teach their kid that white people are the master race and that it is their duty to massacre everyone else, they have that freedom! And if a parent wants to take their kids out of school to work on the farm or get into the acting business, they have that freedom!

Sure, a horrific amount of children might be subject to abuse that will scar them forever and potentially lead to their untimely deaths, but that's just the price we pay for freedom! Freedom for parents to treat their kids like property, that is. The kids don't get any freedom.

Pay attention to specific educational scenarios conservatives deem inappropriate and you notice a lot of them are actually tied to prevention of child abuse (such as teaching about consent and identifying inappropriate touch)...

pet parrot content is getting more popular on platforms like tiktok, and i just want to put it out there that parrots are NOT like dogs or cats. i've already seen more than one video of someone falling in love with a parrot at something like a petsmart (sidebar: like for most animals, please find a responsible, ethical breeder) (this will also hopefully let you know that you are indeed buying a bred parrot and not a wild-caught) and buying one on impulse, and MY GOD does that make me nervous. people who are capable of giving parrots a good life are a vast, VAST minority of people.

my grandfather bred parrots so i grew up with them from a young age, and while i love them and respect them and am glad for the time i got to spend growing up around them, there's a reason *i* do not own a parrot. he always had a clause in the purchase agreement that meant parrots would be surrendered back to him and not abandoned/given to a shelter/rescue, and he had MANY birds given back. many. even with talking it through with people and letting them meet his other birds and experience their volume and how much care they need, there were still people who would buy a parrot and in a few months nearly beg to give it back bc they were in over their heads.

parrots are beautiful, intelligent animals, but they require SO much care and work and socializing. they are flock-based animals, and you will have to be their flock. they will need HOURS of your attention and care every single day. (and i mean HOURS). and if they don't get it, they can and will start engaging in behavior including mutilating themselves and plucking their feathers out. also they are super sensitive to their surroundings. new person in the house they don't like? plucking themselves with stress. too many visitors for their comfort? plucking themselves with stress. you went on a vacation and they aren't dealing with it well? plucking themselves with stress. new puppy in the house? plucking themselves with stress. get a divorce/move houses/new baby in the home? plucking themselves with stress. obviously not every bird will be sensitive to the same degree, but in general, parrots deal with stress/changes in environment WAY worse than other pets.

depending on the breed, you will have a creature with the intelligence of a toddler (some are even as smart as your average 5 year old), and you will be living with this toddler for literal decades. conures live 20-30 years, african grays live 40-60 years, and cockatoos can live 60-80 years. this toddler creature will ALSO have evolved to have a cry that can carry through jungles, and that volume is not gonna decrease bc you live in an apartment and your neighbors aren't gonna want to hear it. you ever heard a sun conure? get within a mile of one and you will.

tl;dr: parrots are beautiful and i love them, but there is no way in hell i would ever own one bc there are SO few people who should.
