The hog breathed heavily as he stood behind the other, irritation etching onto his features little at a time. In the Outback he didn’t have to deal with standing around waiting in line. But this was ridiculous.

A huff was all that could be made out from his mask as he glanced down to the smaller male. Oh has his patience run thin.

Listen- I dunno how these bombs got here! First I get up f’ some milk and I come back and the place is trashed! It wasn’t me I promise. ❞

It totally was him who lit a bomb off in the kitchen but like hell he’s gonna admit to it. For once in his life the ordeal with nothing but an accident, carelessness through hunger. It was the last time he thought about carrying his newest prototypes with him to the fridge.

And I thought I was the comedy relief. Listen, alright. I have no idea how you managed to get here but trust me, this is off limits dangerous stuff. One little step and ka-blooey! Your guts are all over the wall. ❞

A moment of silence.

Actually let me reconsider that- do come inside and take a gander f’ yourself! ❞

the girl had moments before been with the others, they all happily chatting and not seeming to notice the fact that one of the members of the group had disappeared.
      where did junkrat go?
eh, don’t worry about it starshine, he’ll be back soon.
this did not ease the girl’s worries in the slightest, sure some of the others would come and go without warning, but not junkrat. she decided to sneak off, to see where he went.
luckily for her, junkrat is easy to track, and in a wasteland like this, makes it easier. soon the child had found the older man, kneeled at what looked like a cross.
she approached him, a bit of skip in her step, she was happy to find him so easily, but also a bit curious to why he was out here. there wasn’t anything of value, just a metal cross that she could not read the words on.
“ junkrat! junkrat why are you out here all by yourse-
she stopped when she noticed how withdrawn he seemed, something was wrong.
      “ …are you okay?

Junkrat was trying his best to suppress tears that threatened to spill from his eyes. He was a loose canon, a cherry bomb as he was told by Ichor many times before. But rarely did anyone see him cry, or even frown for that matter. He was always smiling, cracking jokes and pulling pranks. His mother loved it when he smiled.

He nearly jumped hearing the other’s words. She was always a sneaky one, a quiet girl with quiet feet. A little slippery sheila. But she’d never hurt a fly.

The smile in her words were so sweet, genuine. Even made the corners of his tilt up slightly before returning to their dismal state. He tried his best to avoid the girl’s gaze, not wanting to worry her. Starshine had better things to fret over than his feelings.

Swallowing the lump in his throat, he didn’t even realize how weak his arms felt. Shakily pushing himself up and standing, he tried to muster the best smile he could to Efi. He always was smiling. Everyone loved it when he smiled.

I-I’m... I’m fine Starshine, no need to worry about me. ❞

Reaching down slightly with his gloved hand, Junkrat ruffled her nappy hair.

You run off back to camp, I’ll be fine. Uhm... I just need a day off. ❞

It wasn’t easy to hide hurt in his voice. The soft croak and crack of his voice, how he tried to muster a voice that felt lost on tone deaf ears. The subtle swallow of the ever present lump in his throat. He was a mess. How can he lie to her? How can he lie to himself? He wasn’t okay. But he had to smile. Efi love it when he smiled.

The thin junker stood quietly, the grave before him half dug and ruined. He expected this would happen, after all Junkertown had one of the most cutthroat societies in the world. But it didn’t hurt any less. A shaky breath left his lips as he set a charred and long dead flower on top of the grave’s remains. A tilted metal cross read the name ‘AUDREY FAWKES’, the name of his long dead mother.

He was twelve when it happened. The two of them were smiling, having a few laughs as they ate out of cans. It was a lucky day for them, they managed to find a stash of canned beans out in the open and took it for themselves. He was naive back then. Unbeknownst of the horrors that truly made the Outback. His mother did everything in her power to protect him, shield him from danger. She did it to exhaustion and he was forever grateful. She always protected him and he always tried to do the same.

When a distant explosion went off near their tent, that’s when they knew there was trouble. Junkrat wasn’t the skilled tinkerer and pyromaniac he was today, but he did learn many things from his mother. Picking up a shoddy grenade launcher she helped build, they set off to defend their home.

Jamison was just a kid. A kid who tried to hard to do what his mother did. He idolized her. Everything he did it’s because she did it. Even the tattoo he got, matched his mother’s. So when a grenade was lobbed at the two and he didn’t see, she dove in front of him.

All he can remember is screaming and crying, holding his mother’s dying corpse with one arm and missing half his leg. He should of paid attention more, he should of done something. As his mother laid dying, she smiled to him.

You’re gonna be something special, my little Starshine, I can feel it. ❞

...

Junkrat sat in front of the half looted, half vandalized grave. Tears threatened the spill from his eyes as she pulled his knees to his chest.

I...I did something special after all, ma. Happy Mother’s day. ❞

I want to also mention that Roadhog has a lot of internalized and repressed emotions about his daughter and girlfriend that causes him to be very distant from people. A lot of his actions are due to his unfulfilled want to be a father and a husband. As well as the heavy feeling that everything was his fault.

Since I’m talking about Junkrat, lemme talk about Roadhog’s life too.

Roadhog, before the Omnium explosion. Was just a guy passionate for his home and wanting to do something about it. He joined ALF in the hopes that his home would become safer and better for him and his girlfriend.

Roadhog has been with his girlfriend for a couple years prior. The two were planning to have a baby before Australia announced they were gifting the Outback, where their home was, to the Omnics.

After the explosion however, Roadhog became separated from his girlfriend. He originally found his chopper and used it to search for her but slowly began to lose himself due to the Outback’s high radiation.

Roadhog met Junkrat years after that, he has then stopped looking for his girlfriend, either assuming she died or somehow got out of the Outback. But he never thought he would see her again. Until.

While exploring an abandoned city with Junkrat, Roadhog noticed a little kid standing and crying outside a building. At first Roadhog merely ignored the kid but a little part inside him knew he couldn’t just ignore a crying child forever. Begrudgingly he approached the kid and tried to console her. Despite looking scary as fuck.

He learned that the kid’s name was Poukamu. Poukamu, the name which he and his girlfriend planned to name if the child was a girl. Silent for a moment, Roadhog tried to weigh his options on how to make the kid stop crying.

Ultimately he did so by stealing Junkrat’s prized robot toy and giving it to her. It did indeed stop her crying but immediately her mother came out. Her mother, Larissa, the woman Roadhog had been searching for for years. Didn’t recognize him. Didn’t even remember him. The radiation in the Outback had managed to give her amnesia to the point where she couldn’t remember who the father to her own child was. Taking Roadhog’s actions as transgressions, she tried to attack him.

Being driven away, Roadhog never got the proper closure on what really happened to his girlfriend and daughter.

Years later Roadhog learns his daughter grew up to be one of the most infamous gang leaders in the outback under the name of Warthog. Turns out she’s heard of the infamous raider and bodyguard Roadhog. She idolized him, making her motorcycle after his, taking her name after his. Unbeknownst to her that he’s actually her father.

Years later the two finally meet each other and she can’t believe that he’s her father.

After a long talk Roadhog finally gave the closure he needed and Warthog went back to her gang.
