We need to bring back fanfics where the author talks to the characters in the chapter notes and occasional intertexual asides, and through this medium the reader gradually becomes aware of a whole secondary metanarrative concerning the interpersonal dramas of the notional "actors" playing the characters in the fic.
the fan-fic is described as "Canon Compliant"
by which it means every chapter is an accurate 1:1 recreation of the source material plot but in text form, including having the exact same dialogue and plot beats and each chapter ends exactly at the exact point the source material's equivalent to an end-of-chapter originally happened.
and this is because the *real* fan-fic is in the chapter's notes as the story is a muppet-style "Show within a show" and the note's is the equivalent to seeing the behind-the-scene drama and production problems that would come from making this theoretical show.
