the silmarillion

Hello! ✏ My name is Ruslan Shapolov

I am a book illustrator.

The presented author’s project is a complex design of the book The Silmarillion, created during the year. He was made for himself as a fan of the wonderful world of Tolkien. Consists of over 50 illustrations, 400 pages, drop caps for each chapter, marginals. Covers in the form of a silmaril stone wrapped in a dust jacket - a dragon skin! I would be glad if the publisher is interested. Everything was drawn in Photoshop, a brush imitating a pencil, illustrations in this technique look like they were drawn on paper.

Lately been embroidering miniatures, so it was fun working on a slightly larger scale (3 by 4 in). Also exciting to see the level of detail I could get on this scale vs mini bluebird I did a month or so ago (swipe for side by side) by amr_427

[Image: A painting of a sharp and jagged icy landscape with a train of little black figure making their way across. Beneath the surface the great mass of blue ice goes down and down, with long cracks and fissures in shades of blue and green, seeming to reach up towards the surface like tendrils. The sky is dark and full of stars, and the Aurora Borealis shines above.]
