Ruminations of A Dreamer Part V - (Victor x F!Reader)
Squinting at the combinations of runes before him, Viktor's mind was racing at all the possibilities he has thought of, attempting to find those he has not figured out yet. Was everything as mechanical and methodical as he always thought them to be? In science, definitely. In magic, not entirely.
Patterns always did exist, whether they may be logical, each step being traced with an ease of some kind and others, irrational, no thread of reason tying the different pieces together. The dichotomy exhibited by science and magic was like that of humans. It was easy to understand them but also not.
They are predictable yet were capable of deviations, and those deviations were akin to mutations that were unseen and uncalled for. Such as the ones Viktor felt brewing within him... The emotions that he-
"Viktor?" Your voice was gentle, right by his ear. If it weren't for the feeling of your form looming over him, he would've thought that it was a product of his imagination. His body jolting upwards, his back that had been slouched over his desk now straightening with the surprise of your presence.
"I'm sorry!" You shot him a sheepish smile, your fingers carding through the soft strands of your hair, bringing his eyes to the rings adorning your slender fingers. "I didn't mean to startle you. I knocked several times and I called your name too but you couldn't hear me. It really wasn't my intention to bother you."
"Nonsense. I am always delighted to have you here, Miss." Viktor shook his head, reaching for his cane and grunted as he pushed himself up. It would be disrespectful if he spoke to you while he was seated and you remained standing.
"To what do I owe the honour, Miss? Please, have a seat." He ushered to the other chair in his lab, one that he asked one of your maids to provide him with, following your more frequent visits to him. He couldn't have you sitting on an uncomfortable stool.
"Thank you, Viktor but I won't be here for long." You swallowed loudly, your hands dropping from your hair, down to your center of gravity, where they twiddled in inconsistent circles. Your eyes that were directed to the floor suddenly shot up and bore into him, a moment of realization hitting you. "Why won't you call me by my name, Viktor?"
"It is not my place, Miss. I wouldn't want to over-"
"I am asking you to call me by my name, Viktor. Are we not friends by now?" The way your question lingered wantingly in the air pulled on Viktor's heartstrings. When has he ever met anyone who wanted his companionship... his friendship?
It was true. Over the course of the past few days, he had finally come to understand that the two of you have become friends.
"Of course we are, M-..." He stopped before continuing the word, pursing his lips in a smile when he saw you raise your eyebrows at him. "You are my friend, Y/N." Your name pronounced with that unique accent of his.
Ah, the way you beamed at him when he said your name. He couldn't count on his fingers how many times he'd seen you smile, being the cheerful person that you were, yet this time, it was different. You were radiant and so much brighter than you usually were.
"Well then, my friend." Emphasizing on the word with a lilt, followed by a bubbly giggle, you bit your lower lip, your fingers reaching back up to twist around the ends of your tresses. "It would be my pleasure if you could join me for dinner, this evening." If you had spoken any softer, he wouldn't have been able to catch your words.
Dinner with you? It was not what he had expected, not sure what he was even expecting yet, the thought of conversing with you in a place other than the confines of his lab pleased him so.
"If you would like to have me there, then I'll be more than glad to do so, Y/N."
"Great. Dinner will be at 7:30 pm. See you, Viktor~" The peppy lilt in your voice was a charming complement to the burst of excitement you exuded and failed to contain. Your expressions were too readable, your heart right on your sleeve, just adding more to
the allure of the person you were in his eyes.
"I will see you at dinner, Y/N." Viktor hoped that he was able to convey how he truly was looking forward to spending time with you.
When has anyone looked at him beyond the lonely child, boy, man who dedicated his life to nothing but inventions and science?
Till you.
