If some of the biggest theatre companies in Japan can regularly released multi-shot DVDs of their live shows, including special features with the understudy performances of certain scenes, then I don’t see how Broadway can’t manage it.

Okay first off, all the world is a stage, but I don’t see anyone saying we shouldn’t film the Superbowl or world cup. State of the Union addresses? Tragic (or comedic, or both) but we still have them streamed and on the news. A kids’ first day at school or first birthday party? Nobody’s saying that shouldn’t be on a home video or phone camera, even if it is fleeting, right? How dare you send pictures of your child or your pet or yourself to your family, huh?

Yeah, it’s bullshirt to say that Broadway shouldn’t be recorded. If you ever had the chance to make a DVD of the first showing of Hamlet or anything else at the Globe Theater without disrupting the play, would you shrug and go “ah, the ephemeral nature of the theatre” or would you get a whole film crew in there? We make kids read and reenact scripts from what, half a millennium ago as a prereq for high school graduation, but heaven forbid we ever document Daveed Diggs or Philippa Soo performing on the opening night of Hamilton

What we have to do is fucking GROW UP. 

There’s not one single thing in the world (outside of the choice of what’s for dinner) that gives “us” 100% of what we want 100% of the time. This is especially true for politics. 

Do you know what Biden is? 

An acceptable (note: not perfect. not necessarily desirable.) compromise candidate who can pull the largest number of people behind him. 

Do you know what Biden is? A candidate who can carry the Midwest and Rust Belt states, the flyover states that went to Trump and guaranteed his victory. 

He’s a candidate with experience. He’s a candidate who has been in the trenches for decades, has seen social challenges and changes, who has been wrong in the past (but right for the time he was in, wrong when viewed with today’s lens) and has apologized for the “mistakes” he has made. 

He’s lost his son and grieved deeply. 

Would I like to see other candidates? sure. I particularly like Mayor Pete Buttigieg. But when the time comes to enter the voting booth? Vote for the party (that’d be Democrat) if you can’t vote for the candidates, because it’s better to have Biden than Trump. 

If it’s Joe Biden, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!

If it’s Pete Buttigieg, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!

If it’s Beto Freaking O’Rourke, I will vote for him. Do I want him to be the candidate? No! Is he better than Trump? Yes!

I’m gonna level with you, I have qualms about EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT IN THE RACE. I’m leaning toward Elizabeth Warren. But no matter who ends up getting the nomination, they are going to be better than Trump. Trump is abusing the hell out of executive privilege. He’s gotten to appoint a fuckton of judges. He’s taking unilateral action to restrict civil rights, particularly the rights of trans people. There are legitimate concerns that Trump will try to resist stepping aside if he loses the 2020 election! At this point, the name of the game is containing the fucking damage.

See your vote as voting AGAINST trump. Not for someone else.

If you must start burning shit down, wait until after we’ve voted Trump out of office and we have a president whose first response won’t be to attempt to put tariffs on fire.

Not mint. Native wildflowers. Because sure mint’s hard to kill and never completely goes away. But mint can also be kept low to the ground, and if you turn the sprinklers off and returf, you can keep it in check. Flowers, though? With quick growth, and fast seeding? Plants that have bred themselves for millennia for exactly that soil and the natural local water conditions? Do it in small sections, and start near water features. By the time anyone realizes that they’re the “wrong” plants, they’ll have already flowered and gone to seed, and once that happens, they are there forever.  Source: mom may have used native wildflowers as spite plants before for a particularly obnoxious and lawn-proud neighbor who also lived downwind. Hypothetically, if she did this, she was also 1) a tenant and 2) not a fan of either the landlord or the local HOA. 

It’d be a shame if somebody linked to how to make wildflower seedbombs. It’s simple enough but some folks might not know how but might really, really want to because they’d want to do something they absolutely shouldn’t and so helping them with multiple links would be really bad, right? I am not suggesting you do anything. I’m not thinking of golf courses near me.
