Glasgow OTRA: Resources for Survivors
There have been multiple and consistent accounts that members of One Direction’s staff and entourage have been sexually coercive towards fans (including minors). One Direction fans, like all teenage girls, are made more vulnerable by wider social attitudes that teenage girls are there to be exploited and dismissed. Fans can share information so that if anyone is assaulted, abused or coerced, they know where to find support.
One Direction’s next concerts are in Glassgow 7 and 8 October.
Rape Crisis Glasgow website is here. Their free phone number is 08088 00 00 14.
Broken Rainbow provide services to LGBT survivors of intimate violence. Their website is here. They have a hotline and online chat. Other support services for LGBT youth are listed here.
Amina: The Muslim Women’s Resource Centre run a helpline from 10am-4pm Monday to Friday 0808 801 0301. Their website has more information.
Rape Crisis Scotland offers a helpline from 6pm to midnight everday: 08088 01 03 02. Their website details their full services and information about services outside of Glasgow.
Important Note: In researching this post I have found mixed reports about transphobia and UK rape crisis service. The Scottish National Service explicitly mentions resources for Trans people and would probably be a better starting point than Glasgow rape crisis. Broken Rainbow have a trans specific helpline 1-5pm on Tuesdays 0800 999 5428.
Love and solidarity to all the One Direction fans who have experienced sexual abuse in any context. We are all worth fighting for.
(This post will be reblogged again tomorrow. If you have additional information - particularly about the inclusivity of services please add to this post or message us with details. A Manchester post is coming).
