The Walking Dead Rant
I’m kind of getting sick of people saying Negan is irredeemable because all the things he has done are ‘unforgivable’. If he killed your favorite character, you’re completely justified in hating him and even if you don’t like him, I also think that’s okay. I’m just putting this out there, but I’m getting so sick of people making nothing, but excuses for everyone else on the show.
It’s like people ignore EVERYTHING all of the other characters do and always have an excuse for them. Which I don’t hate these characters, but holy shit the fact that people find their characters perfect, when they aren’t says everything. This is a show about survivors who have done awful things to survive. So let’s take a few moments to think of the awful things the others have done on the show, obviously I will forget some things, but I can’t believe people ignore these things.
Daryl:
- Started off on the show as a racist.
- When they were fighting the saviors, he would kill people no questions asked, even when they surrendered. Now I know people will say BUT THEY WERE SAVIORS. Not all of the Saviors were bad guys. They pointed out that a lot of them were just there to survive.
- Plowed a truck into the first floor of The Sanctuary KNOWING that the innocent families and people working in The Sanctuary would be the ones that were killed first in order to try and kill Negan. There were children there. Innocent workers that were just working to keep the upkeep of The Sanctuary.
- Killed Morales when Rick was talking him down. Morales was admitting he was only a savior because he lost everything and even Rick was upset for him doing this.
- Hated that Rick was doing something to honor his DEAD son and decided to work with Maggie to stab Rick in the back which led to Rick getting hurt and disappearing.
- While in the lineup, disobeyed Negan and led to Negan killing Glenn. I know people will always whine and complain about this one, but even Daryl blames himself and the showrunners have too.
Carol:
- Killed her own people in the prison and then set their bodies on fire. All in the name of ‘protecting people’
- Killed a little girl because she didn’t think she could control her.
- Was a horrible mother to Sophia. When everyone was out there looking for her daughter, she just sat and cried.
- Led to the attacks of the people from The Whispers because she couldn’t handle her pain.
- Was the reason people got trapped in the cave because instead of thinking smart, she thought with her emotions and led to many people getting hurt.
Rick:
- Became a hired hitman and took out the Saviors at the outpost because he wanted to get food. We’ve already learned that not all of the Saviors were bad people. And anyone that can defend this when Glenn looked mortified when being forced to kill them is crazy. Even Ross Marquand and Steven Yeun have stated that this episode is when they proved that they were no longer the ‘good guys’.
- Killed all those Saviors when they surrendered and it even went to the point of Morgan telling Rick that he was done. To which Rick even came to the realization himself that he hated the person he was becoming when looking in the shattered mirror (Season 8, episode 14)
- Rick AND Michonne while driving see a stranger on the side of the road who is begging for help and leave him. Come back later, see that he has been killed when they could have helped and instead of feeling bad, they decide to loot their dead body.
- Became infatuated with a married woman in Alexandria and led to complete mayhem when that community had been fine for years until he showed up.
- Became so obsessed with Negan that he ignored his son’s concerns for trying to help someone that his son went out on his own and ended up dying.
- Killed those guys in the bar, which most people consider to be the turn of Rick Grimes to the darkside.
There are so much more things that can be said about the whole crew and I’m barely scratching the surface. This is a show about survivors that do things to survive. We just are eager to forgive those that are our favorites.

Now you’re really going to tell me that you think it was okay what they did when you can see the look on Glenn’s face says everything? We know that there were good Saviors as well as bad saviors. Not everyone at that outpost deserved to die.
I DEFINITELY do not think that Maggie should ever forgive Negan. That’s not even in the question. She should hate him. She should hate him forever. But I think she needs to acknowledge that he’s no longer the same man and killing him now when he has changed makes her just as bad as him. Whether they write it this way or not, Lydia and Negan have bonded, same with Judith. Taking away one of someone’s only stable things in their life (especially for Lydia) is fucked up. The only reason that Maggie is back is because she had no where else to go. She abandoned the community, Negan has been there longer and doing more for Alexandria than she has.
I’m not claiming Negan is innocent. We know he’s not because even Negan hates the man he used to be, but let’s go over these details:
Negan since being in Alexandria has:
- Saved Judith & Dog.
- Saved Aaron.
- Saved Lydia from getting brutally murdered by Alexandrians. (which certain Alexandrians wanted to kill him for, which let’s be honest, is super fucked up)
- Protected Lydia by hiding her so she wouldn’t get killed by her mother.
- Killed Alpha, ultimately saving a huge chunk of the Alexandrians because she was out to kill all of them.
- Saved Daryl when given the chance to go and be the leader of The Whisperers because a significant part of the group now would consider him as the Alpha for killing Alpha, but instead went back to be with Alexandrians to help them. So when given the chance to have power again, decided to side with Alexandria.
- When Beta was going after Lydia, ended up singling himself out and almost dying to keep her safe from getting killed, again.
- Has been rebuilding a huge part of Alexandria after things were destroyed.
Now you can complain all you want, but I’m not going to respond. These are just facts and I expect people to get upset because they will over their favorites having negatives pointed out about them. I fully expect people to defend their favorites actions because it’s human nature, but it just annoys the hell out of me when I see people have an excuse for EVERYONE on the show, but always say Negan is unforgivable.
