The celebration of love (Wyatt x Ellaire)
A/N: That fanfic was written for Authors contest that was on VK to celebrate RC’s fifth Anniversary and first days of spring. (I ended on 45th place out of 100 chosen works with around 400 works that participated in contest)
“Where are we going,” asked Wyatt holding a miniature’s blonde Queen’s hand intertwining their fingers, letting her tug him after her.
It was an early morning on the first day of spring. The birds sing high up trees. The flowers scented like divine nectar. The earth was wet from dew drops looking like a silver veil covering the ground. And everything around them slowly came to life as if waking up after a long deep winter slumber.
“Do you realize that you are asking me that for a fifth time?” she retorted turning her head towards him with a carefree happy smile, gasping out the laugh when he tugged her towards him catching her by surprise.
“Yes, and do you realize that today is your birthday and you should have been sleeping in, not drugging me somewhere through the forest?” Wyatt murmured quietly into the ear of his beloved, kissing her gently just behind it. “Because of that I couldn’t even wake you up properly,” he whispered with a suggestive smile, making Ellaire’s cheeks burn from the promises that it held.
“Yes,” she replied hoarsely. Her brows furrowed as if she lost the thread of her thoughts and her mind got clouded by the promises her beloved’s gaze bear. Her lips parted on a soft sigh and she fell silent until she cleared her throat and started to speak again. “And that was an original plan, but you do know that letting Taki in on your plans was a bad idea and you know that I get too impatient too quickly so making me wait till lunch time would be simply too cruel, so that's why we are going there now,” grumbled Ellaire.
“If you mean he told me that you planned a surprise birthday party on our favorite clearing then he definitely did, but… when he did realize what he was doing he shut up and said no more… Regardless of how much I pleaded, demanded and threatened him. He said that he would better lose his head quickly than be subjected to your wrath.”
“I’ll kill him,” groaned Wyatt, smiling against the crook of Ellaire’s neck.
“You will not,” she giggled, lifting her head and catching Wyatt’s questioning gaze. “I did promise him you will not even think about that.”
“It’s an order of your Queen or else you will meet the consequences of your disobedience, Captain of the Royal Guard,” she added, taking a royal posture.
“Are you threatening me?” he asked, smirking. “You better run, my Queen, or else…,” he said, knowing that whenever they are alone he can do and say whatever he wants to his beloved as it was agreed between them, but even before he could finish the sentence Ellaire slipped out of his grasp starting to run towards opening between colorful trees.
Her dress and long blonde hair freely flattered in the wind. Her melodic sonorous laugh joined songs of birds making Wyatt freeze for a second admiring the view. It took him a few seconds to finally start running, a few seconds that would be enough to catch up with her but instead he watched her every move, feeling how the love for her filled his heart to the brim. His happy laugh joins hers, when they finally run into their favorite clearing only to find it’s empty. No friends… no celebration preparations in sight.
“Wait…,” exclaimed Ellaire, stopping abruptly in the middle of the clearing, turning back to meet Wyatt’s amused gaze. “Where is everyone?”
“Did you really think that we would let Taki spoil our surprise for you?” the young man murrmured stepping behind her and wrapping his hands around her waist.
“I..,” she looked around, still confused.
“Let’s go. I think it’s time already,” said Wyatt, taking Ellaire’s hand and pulling her behind him. She let him lead the way looking around the unknown area until they would stop in front of the silvery green tall trees whose branches hung and hid the opening between them. She felt the soft hand of her beloved placed on the small of her back. "Are you ready?" he asked, lifting the veil of branches and leaves, revealing the grand meadow in the middle of the circle created by trees and the lake sparkling on the opposite side of the entrance.
She looked around gasping in surprise. The trees were decorated with with silvery-blue and pink fairy lights. The grand white tent was standing in the middle with its sides lifted revealing a quilted picnic blanket on the grass. The bulk of colorful balloons were floating in the air attached by the strings to each side of the tent. And on the blanket there was a feast. All kinds of meats and pies, pots of stew and jugs of meads in every possible color, different fruits and breads that still were steaming. And there were her friends standing at the side looking at her with huge smiles on their faces. Even Reinhold, who was usually composed and didn’t reveal his emotions much, looked happy and carefree; he was also the first one to break the silence.
“Ellaire, on this sunny morning we would like…,” he started his speech before being interrupted by Ellaire.
“Wait,” she said quickly, smiling at him with a fond smile. “I’m so grateful for all your effort, but today instead of celebrating me, I would want to celebrate us, our friendship,” she spoke, looking at her friends. “Our love,” she added, turning her head towards Wyatt and feeling the light squeeze of her hand in return as if he knew that she would say that.. “Let’s celebrate everything that we are and everything that was born at the place we can call our home. I want to celebrate spring and the beginning of a new cycle of life, but not just me who wouldn’t exist without you, without something that was created so beautifully between people who would unlikely met under different circumstances.”
“I would never expect anything less from you than that, my love,” whispered Wyatt into her ear.
“Wait… does it mean that our gifts will be shared too?” asked Taki, curiously looking at the pile of boxes at the side. “You pretty boy can leave yours for that little lady next to you, I’m not too much into rings you know,” guffawed Taki, before getting elbowed by Gisella.
“You idiot…,” she grunted.
“Taki…,” exclaimed Wyatt.
"What?" asked Ellaire, her eyes widened and her lips parted in surprise as she watched Wyatt nervously take the ring from Delias' hands, who silently walked over to them.
"Ellaire, today I wanted to give you this ring as a token of promise… not in front of everyone, but only in front of you," Wyatt muttered, looking accusingly at Taki, who pretended that nothing had happened. — "But since someone doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut…."
"Hey… I know how, I just…" said Taki, but trailed off as he met Wyatt's frowning gaze, raising his hands in peace.
“So, as I said, I wanted to give you this ring in private, as a promise to always love you and be devoted only to you. As a symbol of the fact that no matter what happens, I will always be with you, loving and protecting you. As an oath that no matter what, I will always be by your side."
And on that spring day, in celebration of love and friendship in the place where everything was born the promise was made to her and the ring of her beloved was accepted, as a symbol of inseparable bond and eternal love.
