i had a weird initial interpretation of the lyric that nobody seems to be going with lmao

my thought was that she's describing being "off the market" after years of being considered a temptress and taking daggers for it. like when she got together with joe it was like she was "tamed" (she said herself in RFI) and people could stop sharpening their daggers. and she's reflecting on that change in the process of undoing it.

from the perspective of the public!!! (and also tied into what we've talked about a lot re: taylor being considered more respectable with folklore/evermore) like "she's no longer the evil slut we don't have to kill her anymore" and it would be so harrowing to contemplate returning to that reputation. do you see the vision.

I know some people have mentioned the bird/bird cage imagery in the ttpd library and it got me thinking about how taylor has pretty steadily used bird cage motifs in her work since reputation (and has even featured actual bird cages in her own home on multiple occasions as far back as 2011). from everything we know so far it really seems like the whole theme of this album will be "my gold cage used to be a haven until it turned into a prison" and I will be extremely interested to see if there will be more references to birds and cages in ttpd
