It is a truth universally acknowledged that the minute you rinse your paintbrush you will find 5 spots that you missed. This is 10 of 24 colors (minus 10 x the numbers of spots I missed).

Need recommendations for a moisturizer with SPF. I use a tinted moisturizer with SPF when I go to work, but I'd like something without tint for every day wear.

I need to know everything you all know about cookie tables at weddings. I have just learned of this phenomenon and have answers from someone in New York and Pennsylvania, but I need a larger sample size.

Go.

I finished the last three of the books on my series re-read on audio, so now it's time to return to the hardcovers. I also understand why I inadvertently stopped reading. The Language of Bees and The God of the Hive were a pair of thrillers and very fast-paced with lots of twists and turns. Any book that followed that would feel lackluster in comparison.

Legends & Lattes was an absolute delight. Mary Poppins was strangely disappointing.

I've got four books in progress: 1 audiobook, 1 cookbook, 1 library book and 1 Kindle book. Definitely want to finish those up.

I painted a little hedgehog. Life is a little better.

I've slept terribly this week. I went home early yesterday with a migraine. Didn't sleep well again and had a combination of minor migraine / migraine hangover today. Light sensitive. Queasy. Five in-person meetings. Not at my best and took it out on my team. Apologizing was met with "you're human". Somehow that makes it worse. I need a juice box and a nap.

Bad: I forgot to read yesterday and broke my streak of reading every day in 2024.

Good: Just booked my next trip to see the boy. I'll get three weekends with him, one of them at Cape Cod with our matchmakers.

The boy flew home this morning, and I miss him so much. This is the first time the entire trip has been at my house, and even though it was just five days, it feels empty. I miss his shoes by the door and his toiletry bag in my bathroom and his tablet on the bedside table.

But we went to the zoo, and he met my parents and my nephew and some friends, and we ate pretzels and played pinball and watched TV and snuggled.

Now the countdown to July.

Long distance sucks.

This book is stinking cute. Read about half of it at the pool this morning. Thanks to @shortladyleggers for the hedgehog bookmark ❤️🦔

The series I've been listening to on audiobook is one that I started reading back in middle school. Clearly I remember nothing, and my library has them on audiobook, so I started back at the beginning in order to get caught up.

Except, for some reason, my library system is missing book 10 and book 13. So is the other digital library in the area. Just 10 and 13. They have all the others. Even some of the novellas. Just not 10 and 13.

So last night I emailed the next biggest library system asking if I could get a limited card. Shoutout to Jeff the Librarian because book 10 has been downloaded.

I was surprisingly inspired to do my planner after skipping February and March. There are two main things for this month:

  • The boy got some not great (but not totally unexpected) health news, so we're both committed to making some healthier food choices. For me, I set up a new plan on Lose It. April will mostly just be getting used to being more mindful about my food choices. He comes for a visit in a week and a half, and it's still going to be a vacation for both of us, but we'll try to be just a bit better.
  • I need to start reclaiming my time from work, and I'm pretty proud of my plan. It was inspired by both my therapist and my budget app. Instead of "give every dollar a job" I'm giving the time after 5:00 pm a job that aligns with one of my values. So a family dinner serves the value of relationships, and time to workout before I'm too tired or hungry serves my physical wellbeing. I'm literally putting in (private) calendar events so that time is spoken for, and I get a reminder that contributing to my work community is not the only thing that's important to me.

I'll continue to read just a little, get better about flossing, and do a bit of tidying every day, but the two things above are definitely the important ones.

I tried a new cinnamon roll recipe for Easter this year. The first batch didn't rise, which was my fault--I should have known better than to do the kneading in the mixer--and I didn't realize I was low on flour, so this batch was a mix of AP, whole wheat, and bread flour. This was also made with my homemade brown sugar, which is literally just molasses and white sugar. Smells terrible raw, tastes great baked. The texture is wonderful, but the dough was a little sweet. I also like more filling. Next time I make my usual recipe I'm going to make them in my Dutch oven because the crust was *chef's kiss.

It was a low book month but a good book month.

About 15 years ago, we were at my brother's house for Easter. My mom had made me an Easter basket, and my brother was so mad about it. My mom sort of stuttered and ended on you got married (and what she meant was that she wasn't going to risk crossing my sister-in-law by continuing to make him Easter baskets).

Me: Yeah, you chose to get married at 20, I chose to get three more years of Easter baskets. Brother: I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS A CHOICE!

Mom and I were amused. My sister-in-law was not.

I still get an Easter basket. Even better, the boy's mom sent me an Easter gnome and chocolate bunny. So the question is... do I blow up the family group text by pointing out that I'm partnered and get two Easter baskets to his zero Easter baskets.

I had a pretty lazy day today. Slept in, went to the post office to pick up a box from the boy's mom that didn't fit in my mailbox, coffee shop to read and write letters, and went to the library to pick up two holds. Cleaned off my dining room table so I could craft, nap, made another cookie cake.

I did these diamond painting coasters. They don't give me the same I Have Created Something high that I get from macrame or paint by numbers, but in the matter of a couple of Love is Blind episode rewatches I have two cute coasters. Going to finish tidying the kitchen and then get out my paint by numbers.

Not a bad day.
