Hello! I am trying to make a custom furby skin for my furby and I want to know how I can remove the faceplate from the old furby and attach it to the new one. Thank you!!

hi there, anon!

you didn’t specify what type of furby you’re trying to customize, so i’ll explain how you can do it for a 1998 furby and a furby buddy, since those are the two i have experience with (i have a custom boom but their faceplates are attached to their robot insides, so there is no real removal afaik)

for a 1998 furby, if you flip the skin inside out you should be able to see the stitching that holds the fabric to the faceplate. if you rip those stitches out you can remove the plastic faceplate and then sew it into the… face hole of your new custom skin, pulling the thread through the pre-existing holes in the plastic. make sure you sew it so that the raw edge of the fabric is folded in toward the inside of the furby, as this gives them their cute puffy face and it looks a lot cleaner!

for a furby buddy, it’s a lot more complicated, and you have to be very careful - you can ruin your furby or hurt yourself if you get too impatient. i have a detailed answer for how to do that in this post right here!

tbh for the furby buddy i would recommend cutting the fabric around the face, and using it to attach to the custom skin if you can. it probably doesn’t look as pretty but… prying it apart is a lot harder than it looks lol. and once you peel apart those two halves of plastic the only way you can really reattach it to fabric is to glue it :/ i’m pretty sure i’ve also recently seen someone selling faceplates made out of resin, which is really cool and So Much Easier! no furby buddy dissection required!

anyway, i hope this was helpful in some way! if you need pictures or a more clear explanation for anything, feel free to send me a direct message and i’ll get back to you asap :)

I followed the furby buddy pattern that @daftfurby made based off of @pocket-furbs pattern! I didn't have a face plate so I made him a silly little embroidered smile. I have limited experience with sewing so he's a little wonky but I love him :) His name is Sigmund but he goes by Siggy.

I am looking for 11mm eye chips clear if possible for dolls the ones you have seems to be what I am after where do you get them from please

Hi there!

I got mine from a seller on etsy. If you look there, I would suggest searching for "11mm round cabachons" because sometimes calling them "eye chips" will not bring up what you're looking for. Also pay close attention to the size - sometimes there are many sizes under one listing, just make sure you click the right one.

I can't find the exact ones I've purchased at this moment, but I can try to add some links to a reply later today if you're having trouble finding them! :)

Hi this pattern is for the furby buddy right? I actually enlarged it too much but it's cute anyway; I'm assuming you can make it any size you want but if I want to make it adult furby size and elongate it, does the "scale to size" mean print the pattern, put it on the copy machine and enlarge until the scale fits 1-2" in a ruler the same dimensions? do you allow 1/4" each side for sewing as well

Hello there!

I made a pattern for furby buddy (found in this post), and it was modified and made into a more easy-to-understand pattern by the lovely daftfurby (which can be found in this post!). Each pattern has its own set of instructions on it, but daftfurby’s has slight sizing modifications and pictures of the construction process, which I think is much more useful in understanding how it all comes together. Be sure to read the whole post before you start putting them together because there’s lots of tips and tricks in there!

But anyway, no matter which one you’ve printed out, the answers to your questions are the same:

  • Yes, you can make it any size you want, very large or very small, or the size of a furby buddy! I’ve shrunk down the pattern myself and made some smaller babs just for fun, and it ended up being about ¾ the size of a furby buddy.I personally don’t know exactly how much bigger it would have to be to be the same size as a 1998 furby or a furby baby but I’m certain it could be done!
  • (side note: there’s also a 1998 furby pattern, found here. it’s scaled to an adult furby, which might be a good reference for you. you would still have to scale it on paper before printing, cutting it and using it.)
  • “Scale to size” does indeed mean to match that scale until it measures to be 1″ with a ruler. To avoid wasting paper by printing multiple times, what I do is paste the pattern into a word doc, and then insert a square shape that is 1″x1″ to measure alongside the scale on the pattern, and stretch the pattern image as necessary. I’m sure there’s a much easier way to do this but this method works for me!
  • Of course, this means that if you want the pattern bigger, your scale would be different. Rather than the scale matching up to 1″, the 1″ gap on the pattern may need to match up to 1 1/4″ on a ruler, or 2″, or whatever you decide.
  • Neither my pattern nor daftfurby’s includes the 1/4″ seam allowance, so you have to add that before cutting out your fabric.

Good luck with sewing your little friend! I sure hope this all made sense, it’s so hard for me to explain things like this. If you need any more help please feel free to reach out again!

Hi not everyone wants their "long furby" to have a front tuft or separate piece of fabric; if you just want it to be all same on top to you just cut the pattern straight across the bottom rather than that cut out in the middle, if you get what I'm saying.??

Hello anon!

I think I get what you’re saying - if you don’t want to give long furby a separate tummy fur, just don’t cut it out, right? Like, instead of two sides with a middle, you just make the sides and tummy one smooth piece like a tube? That makes plenty of sense to me!

Or, you may mean the little tuft of hair on the top of the head, which i agree you don’t really need to cut out if you don’t want to. I think this might be a little more tricky to alter in the pattern but it can certainly be done.

The best part about plushie making is that you can do it any way you want :) Patterns are there to guide you, but there’s nothing wrong with experimenting and trying something new - as long as you have enough fabric to experiment with!

HEY THERE everyone say hello to…

AL13N! (Alien)

This little guy has just arrived on Earth to invade my home, and your dashboards! He’s got stars in his eyes, and love in his heart!

I made AL13N using @daftfurby and @pocket-furbs buddy pattern, though I shrunk it just a little bit! His faceplate is also made completely out of sculpey oven-bake clay, and painted with acrylics! I’m not the best at sewing, so his backside came out a little wonky, but I love him just the same!

I’ve been super into tumblr’s furby fandom for about a year now, but haven’t had the money to buy a furb of my own, and the one I had as a kid is sadly gone now. So when I saw the buddy pattern, I was so excited and started making one immediately! I used recycled materials from around the house, and ended up with AL13N!

Later on down the line, I’m going to make him some cool accessories, and maybe go for a loud, neon/scenecore look for him, but for now, he’s got a pair of sparkly green studs!

I’m also planning to give him some eyelashes as well, but I’ve gotta find some first!

One last fact about him: his Furbish name is Dee Moh-moh, which means Little Monster!

! HE'S SO CUTE

Look at his little antenna, omg... I love him!

I love that you made his faceplate out of clay & used stuff you already had, I'm so amazed by how creative people are when they replicate the furby parts on their own. I think he came together really well, you did an amazing job!

hello furby friends! i rise from the ashes (temporarily) to ask you all a quick question.

i’m thinking about making a couple of “non-working” 1998 furbies into plushes, but i’ve hit a personal roadblock - i don’t like the idea of discarding the parts of the furby i’m not using. in this case, i’ve removed the eyes + beak + inner faceplate, so aside from whatever makes these furbies non-working, i’d be willing to bet most of the rest is functional to use for repairs.

(this is not a post that is intended to make people feel guilty about throwing things away AT ALL, i don’t care what you do when you customize your furbies! i just don’t feel personally comfortable with having furby parts taking ages to decompose in the earth if someone else could use them. you do you!)

anyway, i was wondering if anybody would want the spare parts? i don’t know if anyone still does furby repairs or anything but, if you want me to send these to you, feel free to shoot me a message and i’m sure we can work something out :)

today i made myself a new friend!! he's a little wonky because i was pretty loose with the patterns, but i love him very much! he's entirely made from fleece, felt & gingham that i had lying around in the craft cupboard :3c

i used @daftfurby & @pocket-furbs patterns and tutorials as a guide!! i kind of freehand drew them & didn't follow them super closely (hence his wonkiness lol), but they were both super helpful nonetheless!!

Hey yall! Deerholdfurb here with a project that the mods in my server, Furby Office Time, are working on!

We want to create a list of as many furby Discord servers (and furby adjacent) as possible!

So we need YOUR HELP WITH THIS!

Do you run a discord server for furbies, toy collecting, etc? Is it open to the public? Is it all ages or adults only?

If you answered yes to these questions, then what we’re asking is for you to PM me or one of the FOT mods ( @mr-furby or @tarotfurbyandchill ) an infinite discord link to your server to put into the list!

Server isn’t always open to the public but opens sometimes (Like Oddbodies)? That’s fine! Let us know and we’ll post a note in the list that says to ask the admin or mods when the server will be open!

“BUT DEERHOLDFURB, MY SERVER IS FOR MINORS ONLY CAN I BE IN THE LIST?”

That’s amazing that you created a safe space for you and other minors! Unfortunately, we are not adding Minors Only servers to the list, strictly because we do not want to create a compiled list of minor safe spaces. It is a safety concern!

TL;DR: We’re making a list of discord servers that fall under furby or robot or toy collecting, and we want people to give us infinite discord invite links to put into the list. PM myself or one of the mods with your link. No minors only discord servers please.

Look under the cut for some answers to some questions you might have! If its not answered there, feel free to ask! The google doc masterlist is also at the bottom of the read more

For those unaware because staff isn’t saying it

Tumblr was deemed too full of inappropriate content to be allowed to be downloaded from the app store.

It has this “inappropriate” problem because of rampant porn ad bot accounts. The old solutions were bots to detect image sets with nsfw content, the automatically enabled safe mode, tag filtering for mobile, and wide takedowns of nsfw bots based on words used (that’s why their messages are full of numbers and symbols, to evade this)

Tumblr released their own bot supposedly capable of wiping the ad bots, but it’s taking down many popular blogs, possibly due to sheer amounts of posting or sheer amounts of ad bots in their notes. This bot was likely rushed to be put out.

You are more likely to be accidentally flagged if you post external links, as well. If your acct is taken down you CAN get it back, but it’s a pain. E-mail tumblr support for help with this. It takes down side blogs with the main ones.

I’ll be halting posts for about a week or until this problem is fixed.

Do you have a long Furby sewing pattern?

Avatar

hi there!

i unfortunately have never made a long furby before, so i don’t have a pattern, nor have i seen one. sorry :(

i feel like most of them are essentially a tube with a furby head poking out of one end ? and a tail at the other. which might be easy enough to eyeball if you’ve sewn plushies before (although if you aren’t as comfortable with making it up as you go i definitely understand! it can be intimidating).

anyway, maybe one of my followers can help you find it, if there is one! if i ever come across a pattern i will be sure to reblog it into my #ref tag :)
