Hi, all! I kind of slid off Tumblr around the time the NSFW blocking started but I’m really uncomfortable with the current state of affairs on Twitter at the moment, especially given their current owner posting dangerous and defamatory conspiracy theories, and so am considering starting to post here again, though I will say that I am deeply unhappy about the exclusionary attitudes @staff has taken toward sex work and adult content on tumblr and I hope Automattic will reconsider with enough public pressure.

If we are Twitter mutuals and you’re also trying to use tumblr more, lmk who you are on Twitter and I’ll add you over here. I want to make sure I can find people I have close online relationships with so if I don’t follow you on Twitter I probably will not follow you here right away either so I don’t overdo my follow count but please feel free to read my posts here!

Anyway, hi! I guess if you don’t follow me on Twitter it’s probably a good idea for me to share the biggest news I have which is that @postcardsfromspace and I are expecting a tiny human in December! We made a website for them here: http://www.impendinghuman.com

Not sure if coming back here will stick but SWE problems aside this still feels like a more ethical choice than the bird site at the moment for general microblogging type stuff. Love to everyone! 💖

letter from a mother of a gay man. sent to ONE magazine, 1958.

This post was flagged as adult content and the original poster was deactivated so I'm bringing it back.

“Mrs R” was the pseudonym of Phyllis Shafer, a Kansas City local who helped found the Phoenix Society for Individual Freedom in 1966, a full three years before Stonewall. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she and her son Drew operated the Phoenix House, a safe haven for queer people in the city, and a hub of national queer activism. Drew passed away due to AIDS related complications in the 1980s, and his lover, Mickey Ray, spent the rest of his life fighting to keep his memory alive, largely contributing to the creation of the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America.

“We tend to view American history as this constant march toward progress, which is total crap,” he says. “You gotta fight for that stuff. And if you don't fight for that, you can fall backward. Like it's not just this linear history."

Good quote from the article which may be relevant right now.

Bring this bad boy back with some delicious context for pride

reblogged

In light of current events, now seemed like a good time to re-post the free stencil version of our intersections t-shirt.

Customize, vandalize, and modify to your heart’s content; just don’t sell.

people who want to live in lighthouse - i hear you, i understand you

but i raise you

living in water tower

safer (you not gonna die horrid death so easy), not so cursed but still ominous, you are alone bc you are in a tower but you can do groceries no problem, just chilling above everything else

and look at those beauties!! (from Poland <3)

as an american i was very confused by this post until i got to the images because our water towers look like this, which, as you can imagine, is a completey unsexy place to live

[ID: first set of images are photos of brick towers, with a tall spire and windows all the way down, some painted brightly and some faded with time. Last two images are metal pill shaped buckets sitting on four metal legs. /end]

The Museum of Science in Boston has been raising funds to build a statue in memorial to Leonard Nimoy (who loved the museum and grew up right near it) and I’m SHOCKED at how far they still have to go. Leonard Nimoy was an activist, a proud Jew who inspired so many other Jewish people to be proud of their heritage, and a lover of science, art, and curiosity. If anyone deserves a statue in their honor at the museum he loved, it’s him.

The Museum of Science is a wonderful organization. They support local programs, they’re partnered with the New England Aquarium, they hand out free passes all the time (I got a bunch at the Dyke March last year), they tell the truth and strive to be diverse and accessible (they let people borrow wheelchairs and ECV’s for free!) and they run on community support. Please share their fundraiser!

I understand if it’s more important to you to share fundraisers for individuals in need. It is a very noble thing to do, and I think Leonard would agree. If you care about this though, everything is appreciated, and I know he has a lot of love on this website.

Did we not tell tumblr we had a baby?

Oops, hi, tumblr, @postcardsfromspace and I have a baby.

Their name is K (for privacy reasons) and we are using they/them pronouns until they are old enough to understand what pronouns are and express a preference.
