howdy!

You may call me either Quara or Alyssa! My main is @doctorletmebebrave (so if you see that name liking or commenting, it is me) and I'm also the sole admin of @mcyt-cats! My AO3 can be found at doctorletmebebrave.

I post about a lot of mcyt, including but not limited to: Hermitcraft, Empires SMP, Dream SMP, 3rd Life SMP, Last Life SMP, Double Life SMP, Evo SMP and MCC. I write fanfic and post the occasional piece of fanart! Have I mentioned yet that I specifically planned for an entire year to repeat this one line in Chapter One in Chapter Eleven? Like, I knew it would be too subtle of a callback for anyone to really notice because it's kind of a generic line but I was like yeah let's do that let's be tragic

i need to relearn fire finder math this evening, i have let the inconsistencies in early firewatch au go on Too Long

#prev the treeline in Yellowstone NP is between 9000 ft - 10000 ft so his is probably closer to ~10k elevation#grian's is probably somewhere in the 8k range. my mistake was i put his elevation at 10.820 ft which is...way too high for trees#i was mixed up because i am used to treeline being higher but yellowstone is further north#(treeline being the elevation where it is too consistently cold for trees to grow)#5911 ft is high but not that high for the rockies. ~5000 ft might be the base elevation in the valleys and flat areas#there's a reason Denver is the mile high city!#there are several 13ers in shoshone national forest (including wyoming's highest peak gannet peak)#in fact there are 46 mountains above 12k feet in the absaroka range (which is what theyre in!)#so i think scar's lookout should easily be 10k at minumum but for grian's if i want to keep continuity it should be below 9k ft#because i describe his lookout surrounded by trees (as it is in the game)

#i put the fire lookout at the wrong elevation in my calculations and didn't have as good an idea how tall it was#i accidentally put it above treeline despite describing trees around the tower#(scar's lookout is likely higher elevation--there are only squatty trees next to the Thorofare lookout and it is sitting on the ground)#i have also since seen a fire lookout approximately grian's style and height in real life with my own two eyes πŸ’₯#(i counted the steps and put it in a note on my phone LMAO)#anyway these issues with elevation and height means that the fire finder calculations need to be adjusted since both are variables in it

I’m fascinated by the implications of the bottom layer of Skizz’s pyramid depriving people of their physiological needs. Like how’s he going to deprive them of needs higher up on the pyramid? Break down their friendships? Destroy their self-esteem? Excited to see whatever psychological torture Skizz can come up with.

This is a great question! Honestly...I don't know? It isn't a piece I've filled in yet, since sometimes I don't necessarily worry about things that happened off-screen unless they need to be referenced in-story.

Timeline wise, they probably met early into Scar's career as a lookout. He has known Cub for years by the time he meets Grian in 1989. In my Alpenglow notes, the Cub-related scene is slated for 1983, and by then he already knows Cub. Maybe they met during some off-season travel, perhaps shortly after Scar's first season? I do kind of like that idea, because Scar meeting a new friend at that period of his life would be something he needed.

Honestly--probably was some coincidental meet-cute type of thing where they ran into each other somehow and just started talking :)

oh yeah, I get it, I leave a lot of things up in the air for things that happened 'off-scene' too.

Im thinking they definitely met with Cub trying to outwit Scar in his salespitch. Or maybe at the movie theater since Raiders of the lost Ark was released in 1981 (probably Scar going to go see it again)

I could definitely see them having some sort of battle of wits lmao Scar is like "wait this guy isn't falling for it"

I was going to leave some tags about how the movie theater was unlikely because it was a summer movie, and thus would require Cub to find himself in the middle of nowhere Wyoming during the summer (whereas I like to think him visiting Scar was his first trip to the area.) But then I googled it and realized that Raiders of the Lost Ark stayed in theaters all the way until March 1982, the next year! So that option is also very possible lol

#i underestimated how long they used to keep successful movies in theaters lol#i feel like all the movies now are in theaters for maybe 2 months if you're lucky haha#hc_firewatch_au

experienced the horrors this weekend (bought a new laptop, spent like 12 cumulative hours agonizing over it first)

#i have banned myself from looking at anything else now other than fun new stickers to put on it#if it comes and i decide i hate it and want to take it back then i will be allowed to look again#for now i am not allowed to keep looking though#my dad also told me this about buying cars#he was like once you have your car STOP looking at other ones or you will just get upset if you see something else#i also do this with like. flights#although sometimes if there is a cheaper fare they might honor it. but also sometimes you are just torturing yourself

on saturday night i was talking with my dad at dinner, and we were talking about the volcano eruption in iceland. (specifically how everyone is overly obsessed with the blue lagoon and they keep opening under unclear safety conditions and have been forced to close and evacuate several times this year.) and how the eruption isn't that dangerous right now except for sulfur dioxide gas that might be present on the peninsula. and my dad was like lol "they should just put a canary in a cage and carry it around, that'll be their gas detection"

and i had to agree normally and act like the topic of canaries and cages was just a normal topic and not something i am haunted with knowledge about for fandom reasons
