everyone does want to talk about how fans of [thing] are the worst on tumblr or twitter or tiktok specifically and it’s like Well your first mistake is interacting with people en masse in regard to something you enjoy/care about. you gotta leave that shit with like a handful of trusted guys lest you get jumpscared every five seconds and/or develop blood pressure problems

telling a joke on tumblr is fun but watch out! if it gets over 1000 notes your joke is automatically exposed to people who have never once heard a joke in their life.

"why would you say that" because it was funny. "but that isn't true" it's the funniest way to express that sentiment. "why would you do that" because it's a joke.

*notices the threshold approaching* Hey OP can you explain why you are deciding to ignore autistic people who have trouble determining tone or humor? this is blatant ableeeaddsaaaaaafdghhaaaaayhyhjihhssaaaaaagh *continues to be electrocuted as my dining chair i am tied to is dipped into the electric eels tank*

So Netflix is releasing this animated movie but here’s the thing - all backgrounds are done in AI. No actual BG artists were hired or credited for this work.

And here’s the kicker - I gave them too much credit. I realized that not even the AI users are credited apparently.

Check this out:

“+Human”. No names, no nothing.

I know it’s tempting, but please don’t hate-watch this thing. Numbers equal profit even if the people watching are just doing it to mock. Don’t give Netflix and other studios even more incentive to fire more animators and replace them with machines trained on their work and skill. Hilariously, the excuse used is ‘there aren’t enough artists’. That’s not true - there are more than enough artists, but the real issue is that no one wants to pay a living wage. Here’s a short video about the reality of animation in Japan.

The biggest winners in this equation at the end of the day are the AI infrastructure owners - owners of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Do not feed this machine, it creates more monopolization of entire industries, raises a powerful few and dehumanizes the rest.

EDIT: a lot of people are unsure what the anime’s called - it’s The Dog and the Boy.

i think some of you dont like narratives or stories or characters i think you just like fanfiction tropes

protagonists can and will be sexist, racist, insensitive, cruel, stupid, etc, especially towards the beginning of a story. these are called character flaws and they are a surprise tool that will lead to narrative fulfillment later

Spoiler alert: shoe guy is now widely seen as a hero

Just in case you were wondering where everyone's gonna fall in the "right side of history" debate on this one

The shoe guy’s name is Muntadhar al-Zaidi (he is still alive and active), and yes, the pro-Palestinian student protesters are on the right side of history, and yes, they will be remembered as heroes — far moreso than the cowardly college presidents & conservative politicians who sicced the police on anti-war college protesters dissenting against war crimes and calling for a permanent ceasefire.

Gonna need yall to stop putting Biden is Just As Bad propaganda on my dash. Had to unfollow someone because I don’t want to a start a fight with them over it, but I’m about to bite the next person who puts that shit in front of me.

If you don’t like Biden, vote in your god damn local and mid term elections for third party or further left candidates so that we get better democratic candidates for future elections. But this one is already fucking decided, and I’m NOT ending up under a Trump led dictatorship because yall value protecting your personal sense of moral purity over the collective good. Whether it offends your personal morals to vote for Biden is IRRELEVANT in the face of the alternative.

This isn’t a lesser of two evils situation. One guy sucks. The other guy is LITERALLY PLANNING TO OVERTHROW OUR DEMOCRACY AND INSTALL HIMSELF AS A PUTIN STYLE DICTATOR.

REBLOGGING THIS BECAUSE IT FUCKING HAPPENED AGAIN.

You give me a single goddamn scenario where not voting does less harm then voting for Biden.

You give me a SINGLE goddamn scenario where Trump being elected does LESS harm than Biden.

You give me even the BAREST WHISPER of an ACTUAL, ACTIONABLE FUCKING ALTERNATIVE to just VOTING FOR HARM REDUCTION.

Jesus Christ. Even if you think Biden and Trump are 100% the same, which is a fucking asinine and ignorant goddamn position to take but sure, in that case voting, at absolute worst, makes no difference!

The ONLY reason to deliberately encourage people to NOT VOTE AT ALL is to SUPPORT TRUMP.

You are blindly spreading Actual Goddamn Propaganda for a man who is frothing at the mouth to become a christofascist dictator!!

CUT IT THE FUCK OUT.

my favorite thing about tumblr is that when you’re blocked the website doesnt just tell you you’re blocked it pretends it’s glitching like you look at the dashboard view of someone whose blocked you and it’s like oh huh there’s no posts here! strange! whoopsie! try and reblog one of their posts from their desktop page it gives you an error like oh man there’s some weird stuff going on and you can’t reblog this… probably our fault idk. who knows :/ it’s so funny like we all know we’re blocked but tumblr is in this situation our mutual friend who is like [unconvincingly] “whhhattttttt……… omg nooooooo of COURSE not….” when we ask if the other bitch secretly hates us.

In light of the sad news about Bernard Hill, I feel like we should take a moment to really appreciate the acting performances in the LOTR trilogy. The fact that none of the cast got Academy Awards is well-known and I think even now the sheer visual spectacle of the trilogy can overshadow everything else, but the performances were SO crucial to what made the films great.

It’s easy to take the success of the movies for granted now, but that was never a guarantee. Aside from the practical aspects of portraying such an epic fantasy onscreen, the series is peppered with dialogue that is fine on the page but unbelievably difficult to deliver. As Harrison Ford famously remarked to George Lucas re Star Wars “You can write this stuff, but you can’t say it.”

From Gandalf’s “To the Bridge of Khazad-Dum!” to Elrond’s “It must be cast back into the fiery chasm from whence it came!” it would be so easy for the whole thing to collapse into farce. The only reason it doesn’t, is because of the talent and conviction of the actors.

Bernard Hill was tasked with one of the most objectively ridiculous lines in the entire trilogy. “The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the deep one last time!” And he delivered. BOY, did he deliver. He gave it all the gravitas and emotional weight of Shakespeare, he made it truly rousing instead of ridiculous, he took the audience with him to that moment, that place, right into Middle Earth with its people and its history, and made it REAL.

And for that, I thank and salute him. RIP, sir. Go now to the halls of your fathers. You earned it.

Youtube doing this while fully fucking enabling the alt right pipeline with dozens if not hundreds of racist/anti semitic grifters on their platform for well over a decade at this point is an insane double standard.

not to give google any credit, but the video has violent footage in it that includes wounded and bleeding Palestinian children. this is not a double standard; it's policy that videos depicting sensitive material like that get locked

it'd be censorship if they restricted the audio only version, which they don't seem to have done as of this posting:
