When I was 19, I drove a car with loud exhaust. It was a 96 Honda prelude H22, and I liked to drive fast. For years, while I was living in the nicer suburbs of the Seattle area, I was constantly pulled over by the police for that loud exhaust. I was polite and 99% of the time I was let go with a warning. However, NOT one time in the 50+ times I was pulled over; did I EVER fear for my life. That is white privilege. I acknowledge that I have been treated favorably because of the color of my skin. The sad and disturbing reality for millions of people of color in this country, is that their experience, would have likely been much different than mine. The Continued loss of innocent lives to a racist system is sickening. We need to fix it NOW. We have desperately needed to fix, not only our systemic racism, but the hearts and minds of those who don’t understand their white privilege. Hopefully my story of white privilege, can paint a picture for anyone who doesn’t understand what systemic racism is. I stand for my friends of color. I love you and I promise to do what I can to end the evils of racism in our country. I hear your voices crying out, I see your pain and hurt.
