IMPORTANT - please reblog
The U.S. senate is conducting an outreach survey about pressing issues including ceasefire in gaza and funding for ๐ฎ๐ฑ
Please take time to fill out the survey and spread especially if youโre living in the U.S.
note: (what is above was copied and pasted from this twt post)
something else, these questions are set up to be intentionally bias (you can see in the photo above) so please answer thoroughly and correctly!!
i don't trust the U.S government but taking this survey will give Congress an insight on peoples views on these events. As long as people are choosing the options that are opposed of being pro-Israel or bigoted i think it'll be fine (in theory)
here are two questions that are very misleading

โMilitary occupations have always seemed irreversible, until in fact they are reversed, but it always takes the effort of the colonized to roll back what the colonizers have done. Occupations never ended voluntarily, or just because the more powerful nation wanted it, and have certainly never been the result of a one-sided negotiated settlement initiated and controlled by the dominant power.โ
โ Edward Said, โBitter Truths About Gazaโ, Peace and Its Discontents (1996)
Itโs scary just how much fascism is on the rise. Im aware itโs not new either, thereโs been a resurgence happening since God knows when, but it seems to be more apparent now and more emboldened. And itโs not just white nationalists, but right wing nationalists from non-Western countries too who are a threat. Even โmoderatesโ are trying to appeal to these people.
Itโs not just racism theyโre pushing either, but transphobia too which ended with the death of a child a few days ago. Denialism of all sorts as well, like climate change denialism, anti-vax rhetoric, and so on.
The world we live in is in shambles. Thereโs very little security of any kindโฆ which is why we need to work to fix it. But instead we have liberals gaslighting us that only voting or appealing to those in power will fix things meanwhile the right-wing demagogue capitalises on these issues to shift the blame onto minorities. Again, itโs not anything new by any means but it just shows how desperately we need to build something new and very quickly.
If you use arab.org like I do please consider taking the extra 30-60 seconds to click on ALL of their causes. Palestine is important but so are the environment, refugees, children, women, and the impoverished across the middle east and it doesn't take away from Palestine to click for multiple causes. The arab world faces a lot of problems and they only get worsened by how western nations have oppressed and attacked them. Clicking is small but it generates something and overtime it does benefit the greater good. It takes all of us clicking as often as possible but we can do it! It's really easy and safe and they have proofs on their site on how they do make an impact and are donating your click money
"Revolutionary suicide does not mean that I and my comrades have a death wish; it means just the opposite. We have such a strong desire to live with hope and human dignity that existence without them is impossible. When reactionary forces crush us, we must move against these forces, even at the risk of death." -Huey P. Newton "A society that drives its members to desperate solutions is a non- viable society, a society that needs to be replaced." -Frantz Fanon
โYou simply cannot fit more America into a single incident than a man dying a horrifying death in protest of war crimes while a first responder screams at cops to stop pointing their guns at him and go get fire extinguishers. If you were to pick a single moment in history to sum up the essence and expression of the US empire, that would be it.โ
Caitlin Johnstone, The Most American Thing That Has Ever Happened
sorry to say this but not every act of protest is meant to be palatable. actually scratch that, to protest is to disrupt, it's to inconvenience, it's to make you unable to ignore the protesters message, it's priority should never be its palability.
actually im going to elaborate on this. self-immolation is meant to disturb people. its meant to scandalize and to mark you. it is a radical act of protest at an incredible high cost and it should be treated as such. Aaron Bushnell's death should be mourned because it was preventable. it was as preventable as the 30,000 Palestinian deaths. but his choice should be honored and respected.
in his own words : โmy name is Aaron Bushnell. I am an active duty member of the united states air force, and I will no longer be complicit in genocide. Iโm about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, itโs not extreme at all. this is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.โ
the whole point of his protest is to highlight the violence and pain that the usa and more specifically the usa army is complicit in. in a way that could not be ignored.
to blur his final moments to make them more 'comfortable' to watch, to consume, is extremely disrespectful.
mind you i am not saying that you should go out of your way to expose yourself to such footage, especially if you are not in a place mentally that allows you to do so.
but his final wish was to force us into a conversation around the pain and violence we are complicit with. so much so that it has now become 'normal' rather than outraging.
it is important that we do not let the media sweep up or minimize his actions (something that the blurring facilitates). just in the last not even four months we have had 3 separate self-immolations in protest against at least two ongoing genocides. this is what the fucking wikipedia page for political self-immolation looks like as of today.
here's some links to check out:
I know you guys mean well, but don't you see the irony in doing this? this post is the least explicit it could ever be given the matter we are discussing. and to add the content warning for 'suicide' takes away Aaron Bushnell's agency. he knew what he was doing, he knew the risks do not disrespect his memory and do not disregard his sacrifice.
