semiaquatic secret agent
one minute you're at work experiencing stress levels that would kill a full grown horse and the next you're psychologically cold-cocked by someone in your tumblr DMs mistaking you for their 55-year old milf ex-girlfriend named joan and calling you a bitch but promising that he's good for you because he fixed up the plumbing on the house and installed cabinets in the kitchen
y'all he's doubling down
It is WILD to me that people continue to think they can "gotcha" me into saying the science on weight loss doesn't say what it says. Like, it's not what the authors say; it's what the data reflect. And the data don't give one single hot shit about your reason for wanting weight loss. You can have a terrible reason or a great reason and it doesn't matter. The reason behind your desire for an outcome doesn't change whether the data support the likelihood of it happening or not. There isn't a secret Option C here. The options are A) try to make peace with your weight or B) fight it forever. And if you fight it, the data are pretty clear that you're worse off than if you make peace and take the best care of yourself that you can. You can hate vegetables, you can want it to be easier to find clothes that fit, you can be disabled and find physical exertion challenging, but it doesn't matter. There is no secret option where, because you hate vegetables, your body works differently than every other body that's been studied.
There IS a database of people who have managed to sustain long-term large-scale weight loss. They're so rare we study them extensively. In general, they eat severely restricted diets and exercise for at least an hour a day. I have no desire to recommend eating disorders to my patients. If staying thin is occupying time and brain-space you could be putting into other things that are more meaningful to you, do those other things.
Also, I learned after posting this that the database? Is paid for and maintained by weight-loss companies. Who have a vested interest in proving that weight loss is possible, so they scrounge for the very few cases of people who can maintain it by essentially maintaining eating disorders under the guise of health.
Let! That! Baby! Eat!!!!!!

Want to fanbind? Need davy boards/book boards and low on funds? I have an excellent hack for you:
"But!!!" You may say, "no book is shitty! All human experiences are worth putting to paper!"
You're right! But, also, Counterpoint:
I went to my local thrift shop and got these for the low price of $5 for all 10. ("Getting into politics?" The lovely ladies behind the counter asked me. "In a manner of speaking," I replied.)
Once I got home, it was easy to turn them into this, their component parts:
("Please stop saying you're skinning them," my partner begged. Too late!)
[EDIT TO ADD: Here's a guide! Also on my tumblr. Also - when thrifting, bring a piece of paper folded or cut into the minimum size you need for boards: this way you can make sure you're getting big enough material!]
While these are just book boards, diligent deconstruction can even yield headbands, I'm pretty sure - I'll report back on my next trial run. [EDIT TO ADD: yup, you can!]
I cannot overstate the delight I have in giving these covers new life for binding fanfiction, particularly the queer kind.
Happy binding!
My parents just texted me to ask if I was safe at work. Thats the level of violent antisemitism that is occurring at universities here in the USA. My leftist Jewish parents who rationalized away antisemitism for years and are very, very vocal in their criticism of Israel (remember, they went to school with Bibi and dislike him immensely) are checking to see if I am safe.
Another friend just messaged me about a student worker in his department wearing a shirt mocking the hostages and how they can’t do anything about it. Said friend works at an Ivy League and has been accosted multiple times by the protestors there. Their dream job quickly lost its luster and they’re looking at different universities for employment because their administration won’t do anything to protect their faculty, staff, or students who hold different positions.
I’m so very tired.
Its me, your feral godmother
*waves a wand and grants you the teeth and claws to fuck your evil step family up*
Good luck kid you're in a reverse beauty and beast situation. Do not let that princely motherfucker fall in love with your inner humanity or the spell will fail and you'll turn human again
Good news if you bite his ass you can start a pack together. Go forth. Enjoy the ball
You can bite a princess too if you want. Or a milkmaid, or a butler or whatever. Go nuts. The more the merrier
#misread as feral hogmother
That's my girlfriend, she's rooting for you too
#investing at 70 notes
That is the nicest thing anyone has ever said about a post of mine that wasn't an addition to a post of someone else's XD
#posts that will become Tumblr heritage
I wish. I don't think it's even gonna crack 500 notes

פֿון פֿאָרווערטס, נאָוועמבער 19, 1936
for the non yiddish readers essentially an issue of Forwards in 1936 discussed trans men and then pictured above someone wrote in to say that gender transgression was nothing new because his shtetl in ukraine had a community member and merchant who transitioned from female to male and was very much accepted and married his girlfriend. though I know this is being recounted by a cis man so I do wonder how Berel himself felt and experienced shtetl life as a trans person, and I feel sad not know of any of his own words put to the record in history. but I hope he felt at home and surrounded with love. the last line is "In our shtetl, Berel-Beyle always had a good name as a fine, upstanding Jew."

odin is like “when thor was born the sun shone bright upon his beautiful face. i found loki on the sidewalk outside a taco bell”
Oðinn spake:
Bright the sun shone | at the time of Þor’s birth, And bathed his count'nance fair. Loki, wolf-father, | the trickster, the liar, I found on the cold pavement While returning in glory | from a grand hunt For a 3 AM quesadilla.
I need this framed on my wall it’s so beautiful.

My husband complained that this was more Shakespeare than Eddas, and I challenged him to do better.
Solen sken, skönt gyllene

The day of Tor’s birth

"In a historic “first-of-its-kind” agreement the government of British Colombia has acknowledged the aboriginal ownership of 200 islands off the west coast of Canada.
The owners are the Haida nation, and rather than the Canadian government giving something to a First Nation, the agreement admits that the “Xhaaidlagha Gwaayaai” or the “islands at the end of world,” always belonged to them, a subtle yet powerful difference in the wording of First Nations negotiating.
BC Premier David Eby called the treaty “long overdue” and once signed, will clear the way for half a million hectares (1.3 million acres) of land to be managed by the Haida.
Postal service, shipping lanes, school and community services, private property rights, and local government jurisdiction, will all be unaffected by the agreement, which will essentially outline that the Haida decide what to do with the 200 or so islands and islets.
“We could be facing each other in a courtroom, we could have been fighting each other for years and years, but we chose a different path,” said Minister of Indigenous Relations of BC, Murray Rankin at the signing ceremony, who added that it took creativity and courage to “create a better world for our children.”
Indeed, making the agreement outside the courts of the formal treaty process reflects a vastly different way of negotiating than has been the norm for Canada.
“This agreement won’t only raise all boats here on Haida Gwaii – increase opportunity and prosperity for the Haida people and for the whole community and for the whole province – but it will also be an example and another way for nations – not just in British Columbia, but right across Canada – to have their title recognized,” said Eby.
In other words, by deciding this outside court, Eby and the province of BC hope to set a new standard for how such land title agreements are struck."

Press release by the Haida Nation about the vote
Two really great things about this:
1- they didn't have to go to court. Cases like this usually take years or decades and are incredibly expensive for First Nations, even if they win.
2- to quote the press release: "In the agreement, British Columbia recognizes and affirms that the Haida Nation has Aboriginal title to the lands of Haida Gwaii. This recognition does not create title – Haida Title is inherent." That's a big deal!! The difference between Canada granting title versus recognising Aboriginal title is incredibly important in matters of sovereignty. Haida sovereignty and Aboriginal title is inherent; it does not need to be "given" by the Canadian government.
Thinking about this..I'm so happy for him
