Day Five: Scream My Name {Brave Enough}
Sorry it’s late! I approached the prompt a bit differently than intended. I hope you guys like it. I have one (maybe two) more submission for Love Fest. As you should know already, Not Safe For Work.
"Gajeel!" Levy's scream echoed in his head. It was the last thing he heard, the last thing he ever saw her--and Lily--as darkness rained down his vision. This was death and he bitterly accepted it, knowing that Levy was going to be okay.
"Don't leave me!" Levy's voice repeated over and over. He had to tell her then. So much regret, and yet, Gajeel was glad he said it when it mattered. His heart ached, knowing he was a coward to confess his love that way. He had so many opportunities to tell Levy how he truly felt, however, he wasn't brave enough to do so until he knew he was never going to see her again. "Gajeel!" Her cries stabbed his already bleeding heart.
Gajeel was moron, an idiot, an inconsiderate degenerate that kept everything to himself. For so long Gajeel had Levy by his side and when it mattered, he couldn't build up the guts to tell her exactly how he felt.
"Levy," Gajeel gritted his teeth, knowing she wasn't there to listen. With everything he had said to her, Gajeel could have at least said, "I love you."
"Gajeel!" Levy's voice echoed in his mind. "Gajeel! Wake up!" He felt a hand against his shoulder. "Gajeel!" It was Levy's voice and once Gajeel recognized it, he opened his eyes from the darkness. "Thank goodness! You were having a nightmare." He blinked, realizing he was in a room. A room that took him a while to realize it was his room---their room.
"Levy," Gajeel blinked again at the dry tears that were never there. "M'sorry." Levy poked his ribs.
"No need to be," Levy smiled softly. "Was it the same nightmare?" She asked and he nodded in response. Levy didn't say anything else, though Gajeel could see the concern on Levy's face turned softer. Her honey eyes were darkened in their moonlit room. She was reliving the haunting memory as if she was in the nightmare with him.
"Hey," Gajeel pulled her closer, now finally awake from his trembling. "Like ya said, it's just a nightmare." Gajeel forced a smile. "I'm fine."
"Me too," Levy stared at him for a bit and smiled. "I can't believe it was only a month ago." She sighed, laying her head down against his bare chest. "It feels like it was longer than that." That he could agree on. "I can't imagine what could have been." He could feel Levy's jaw tighten against his chest. She fought her urge to cry.
"It's not." Gajeel smiled, setting his fingers under her chin and forced her to look up at him. "I'm here now and nothin' is goin' to take me away from ya." He could see the glimmer in her eyes. It was the truth and no nightmare was going to drag them apart.
"I know," Levy smiled confidently. "I know." She reassured herself.
And for that, Gajeel reassured himself by pulling her into a kiss.
