The Oath of the Open Sea calls to seafaring warriors, swashbuckling sailors, and traveling guardians who seek the thrill of a limitless horizon. Driven to search for adventure and mystery across and beneath every endless oceanic expanse, paladins who swear this oath stand against those who would deny liberty to likeminded travelers, rooting out tyranny and corruption wherever it is found.

The tenets are:

No Greater Life than a Life Lived Free. One should be free to chart their own path without oppression. Those who would exert their power to dominate others shall be smote.

Trust the Skies. The guidance of a strong breeze. The rumbling warnings of a coming storm. Nature is a source of portent and council that should be heeded.

Adapt like the Water. The waters of the ocean can shift around any obstacle or become an impassable one. They can carve around and reveal the secrets of the past or swallow the truth and hide it forever. To embrace this fluidity is to be ready for any challenge.

Explore the Uncharted. The world is filled with much mystery. Through the pursuit of these enigmatic ends, one can both uncover those who hide their dark deeds in shadow to be judged, and find the path to becoming something great.

Not the original anon so they might have already responded, but I would like your take on the ruthless but noble version. I have always felt more drawn to the lawful side of LG.

Hmm. I shall call it the Oath of the Red Hand after a beloved character from The Last Angel series (look it up on spacebattles or tv tropes, you will not regret it.)

You are the villain of the story. They call you butcher, terrorist, even Dark Lord.

Their hypocrisy galls you because you know the truth. That whatever crimes you've done, armies you've slain, worlds you've put to the fire, your purpose and actions will lead to a greater cause, either to save even more or to avenge a crime that you could never equal in its depravity. Your hands with burn red with blood, and you shall not cleanse that stain.

Paladins who swear the Oath of the Red Hand are extremely rare, appearing only in principled individuals who have found themselves facing a great evil that defies traditional means of containment or destruction amongst other paladin orders, ranging from massive empires or gods that in order to even have a chance to of defying them, one must become either outlaw or rival power and utilize ruthless means to even the scales.

Tenets:

Your Hate Must be Pure and Virtuous: Your hands are red with the blood of many, but remember always the purpose that led you here, and never take succor in the blood, or hate to control you.

Favor the Scalpel before the Cudgel: While you are ruthless and uncompromising, you will not waste your strength in the sword if fear and dominance alone will suffice. A broken army's terror will spread swiftly, while a dead one will remain silent.

Never Forget the Higher Purpose: Some may call you Dark Lord, but remember that you are a servant to a greater calling. Your will is not to impose, but to defend what you can at any cost, or avenge that cannot be restored.

Characters that inspired this concept :Darth Revan and Traya from KotoR, Admiral Preston Cole and Dr. Catherine Halsey from Halo, and Red 1 and Adrianne Leblanc from the Web Novel The Last Angel

I’ve been thinking and I want to add one more tenet.

Compassion is not a weakness. Be it through a gentle hand or painless death, it is valuable in your arsenal as your very soul. But like any blade, be careful it does not cut you or your allies when you grasp it.

If I may be so bold to ask, what separates this oath from the oath of vengeance?

Those who Swear the Oath Of The Watchers swear to defend the mortal realms from the machinations and predations of extraplanar monstrosities, and to remain ever vigilant against their influences.

The Tenets are:

Vigilance. The threats you face are cunning, powerful, and subversive. Be ever alert for their corruption.

Loyalty. Never accept gifts or favors from fiends or those who truck with them. Stay true to your order, your comrades, and your duty.

Discipline. You are the shield against the endless terrors that lie beyond the stars. Your blade must be forever sharp and your mind keen to survive what lies beyond.
