one time I had a dream that I unlocked a secret never-before-discovered achievement in Disco Elysium by squeezing into various nooks and crannies and got a special copotype called “Crevice Cop: seek out and inhabit crevices like some kind of man-spider” and I thought yeah!!! man-spider!!! crevice cop!!! this game GETS me!!!

and then I woke up to find that I had fallen partially down into the gap between my partner’s bed and the wall and was horrifically contorted and in agonizing bodily pain from sleeping in a position only comfortable to a brown recluse

when i was a kid i had moments of being so fucking diabolical because i realized at some point the best way to leverage power over my family was to do shit that would make everybody late

our house was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods so when i decided i didnt want to wear dresses anymore if we were going to some event & my parents insisted i had to wear a dress i would just go hide in the woods. was so committed i almost made us miss a flight once bc my mom packed a dress in my suitcase

i only promised to stop doing this if my parents got me formal boys clothes to wear which eventually they did. i don't feel bad about resorting to violence bc i asked politely and they said no. proud of 10 yr old me for evil annoying lesbian behavior

5th grade was the last time I wore a dress for school pictures. When my parents attempted to force the issue for 6th grade, I climbed onto our roof and pulled the ladder up after me. My dad borrowed the neighbors ladder. As soon as it touched the roof I pulled it up too. By the time I had 3 ladders they were willing to negotiate, and 2 hours late for work.

AMANDA

AND SAREK LAUGHED AT IT OMGGGGGG

THEY’RE ICONS

[image description: picture of a page from the book Spock's World by Diane Duane.

The marriage was a quiet one, but the news was still greeted with astonishment on Earth. Sarek took it calmly. One particularly annoying newspaper, which published a slight alteration on Amanda's headline--"I Married A Little Green Man!"--received an interesting riposte from Amanda, when she was interviewed on the broadcast news services shortly thereafter: "There is nothing little," she said with great dignity, "about my husband." Sarek did not at first understand the amused ripple that went through the crowd of reporters standing around. Certainly he was tall by Earth standards. He had to have it explained to him, and afterward laughed harder than after the radio-telescope incident.

Sudan still desperately needs aid--it needs a lot of things, but it is approaching a dangerous point with famine and mass death due to hunger imminent.

These are the kinds of headlines we're getting now:

Here's an ongoing fundraiser:

I linked it before, to help with Ramadan, but it's an ongoing initiative, the need has not stopped.

I picked this gofundme because it's been boosted by people I trust and you can see pictures online of the food they've provided, e.g.:

But I also picked this because you can see the amount of donations. It's 2pm ET on Saturday, April 20th right now? For the next week, whatever's donated, I'll match for a total up to $2,000 (we'll say 2,750 CAD, since the gofundme is in Canadian dollars).

You don't have to send me a receipt, I just ask that you donate and boost.

i think a lot of people who have never cared for a baby and have no conscious memory of using diapers or any other incontinence product don't realize that people really aren't supposed to be sitting in soiled pads/diapers for extended periods of time. like the point of the pad/diaper is to prevent the soiling of clothes and whatever else we might be sitting on, and to give us enough time to get somewhere where we can change.

if you sit in a wet/soiled diaper (or underwear) for longer than 2-3 hours, it starts to get really painful and irritate the skin. this can lead to painful rashes, which can get infected. this is especially serious because many people who use incontinence products are also immunocompromised, and infections from sitting or walking around in a wet diaper can become extremely dangerous very quickly.

this is why we need to amend the ADA's guidelines for accessible bathroom requirements to include adult changing tables. i'm very lucky in that i'm mobile enough to change myself in a stall, but many people who deal with incontinence are not, and need full assistance with changing. being stuck outside in a soiled product is painful and dangerous, and significantly disabled people deserve better.

The latest episode of Last Week Tonight talked about people suddenly being cut from Medicaid without being told, and (beginning at 19:30 in the video) one person impacted was a man with cerebral palsy whose in-home care was switched to a private MCO penny-pinching company, AmeriHealth, and they wouldn't provide the care on a daily basis anymore including diaper changes. A doctor from AmeriHealth in the video is quoted as saying "I would allow him to be dirty for a couple days," apparently having no knowledge of the above risks and extreme discomfort of not getting changed.

This knowledge needs to be more widely known especially if some people in charge of the care of thousands doesn't even know it!!

marine biology is so scary because it’s such a small field. i was giving a talk on cetaceans and afterward a woman approached me with her husband and she said, “you did very well. [husband’s name] actually pioneered the research and published the first paper on that. We were very impressed by you.”

Which is such a scientific interpretation/public education win I will cherish forever but also for the rest of my life any time I give a talk I will be haunted by the knowledge that the world’s leading expert who literally discovered/invented the topic might be in the room,

which is like, the opposite of what you’re supposed to do for stage fright. In fact I never used to experience stage fright but now I will.

There are limitations to the benefits of being a marine biologist
