"Walk in the shadows, light the way."

We are warriors in the eternal crusade, unseen until we move to strike evil at it's heart. We are the cloaked hunters, the paragons of holy light that bends the shadows to the will of divine law. We are dusk knights. : Member of the We Are Adventurers collective,

I wanted to draw something to show support for BLM, and it was an easy decision for me to draw Miles. The quote is from Stan Lee, written over 50 years ago in 1968, and it’s still (sadly) just as relevant today.

Keep fighting, keep protesting, keep making noise. Don’t let this go away. No justice, no peace. ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

[Boyega]: I want to thank every single one of you for coming out. This is very important—this is very vital. Black lives have always mattered! We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless, and now is the time. I ain’t waiting! I ain’t waiting! I have been born in this country, I’m 28 years old, born and raised in London, I’ve grown tired—every black person understands and realizes the first time you are reminded that you are black. You remember, every black person in here remembers, when another person reminded you that you are black. So none of you out there, all those protestors on the other side protesting against what we want to do, protesting against what we want to try and achieve, [?] you, because this is so vital.

[Other voices, to crowd]: Sit down! Sit down!

[Boyega]: Sit down, guys, we have to sit down. If you could sit down, if you can sit down. Now I need you guys to understand, I need you to understand now how painful this shit is! I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing! And that isn’t the case anymore. That is never the case anymore. We are going to try today—we are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd.

[Crowd cheers]

[Boyega]: We are a physical representation of our support for Sandra Bland! We are a physical representation of our support for Trayvon Martin! We are a physical representation of our support for Stephen Lawrence! For Mark Duggan! It is very, very important that we keep control of this moment and we make this as peaceful as possible. We make this as peaceful and as organized as possible. Because you know what, guys, they want us to mess up. They want us to be disorganized. But not today! Not today!

[Other voices]: Not today!

[Boyega]: Not today! And now this message is specifically for black men. Black men, we—[Boyega cuts off, crying and bending over from emotion]

[Crowd]: Speak! Speak!

[Other voices]: You can do this, you’ve got this.

[Boyega]: Black men, black men, we need to take care of our black women. We need to take care of them! They are our hearts! They are our hearts, they are our future, we cannot demonize our own. We are the pillars of the family. Imagine this, a nation that is set up with individual families that are thriving, that are healthy, that communicate, that raise their children in love, have a better rate of becoming better human beings, and that’s what we need to create. Black men, it starts with you, and it’s done, man—we can’t be trash no more. We have to be better.

You don’t understand, I’m speaking to you from the heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this. But fuck that--[words bleeped out]. This, today, is about innocent people who were halfway through their process. We don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved; we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved. But today we’re going to make sure that that won’t be an alien thought to our young ones. I’m sure you lot came today, you left your kids, and when you see your kids there aimlessly playing, they don’t understand what’s going on. Today is the day that we remind them that we are dedicated, and this is a lifelong dedication. Guys, we don’t leave here and stop, you know. We don’t leave here and stop. This is longevity. Some of you are artists, some of you are bankers, some of you are lawyers, some of you own shops, stores. You are important. Your individual power, your individual right, is very, very important. We can all join together to make this a better world. We can all join together to make this special. We can all join together!

First in a series of comics about Street Medics. Feel free to share and add these to your resources, however you deem necessary. Black Lives Matter.

If you are going to administer more than water PLEASE GET FIRST AID CERTIFIED! If possible, please also get certified in Basic Life Support. You can do both through the American Heart Association or the Red Cross.

This isn’t snobbery, the police are looking for ways to shut down street medics. Certifications will make sure that you are fully protected by the good samaratin law.

Make sure to clearly introduce yourself so that you are not charged with impersonating a doctor.

Example 1, with certifications: “My name is [name] and I am here to help. I am not a doctor. I am certified in first aid and basic life support by the American Heart Association. Do you consent to my assistance?”

Example 2: “My name is [name] and I am here to help. I am not a medical professional, but I do have water and some other things that can help. Do I have your consent to help?

DO:

Carry all of your certification cards on your person, displayed if possible

Memorize your certification dates and numbers in case you are arrested

Know your limitations - it is very easy to hurt someone who is already injured.

If you are not certified, the best way to cover your ass is to give people whatever materials you have so they can self administer. This is still assisting!

Being a calm and steady presence is one of the most important thing in any crisis, regardless of any training you do or do not have.

Also please I’m literally BEGGING people to stop writing stuff about first aid if they’re not trained in it. Don’t use tampons for nose bleeds Don’t put things in your nose if you have a nose bleed. Pinch the nose just under the bone and lean forward. Don’t tip your head back, stay calm, just wait it out. If it doesn’t stop bleeding after 15 minutes seek medical attention. And for the love of fuck STOP ENCOURAGING UNTRAUNED PEOPLE TO USE TOURNIQUETS STOP ENCOURAGING THEM AS SUPPLIES TO BUY!!!!!!! Tourniquets are only to be used if the wound is fatal and the person will die without help. Using a tourniquet wrkng can result in someone losing their limb. In fact using it right can do that too. They can cause permanent nerve damage too. Really if you’re not medically trained and someone is injured the best thing to do at a protest is to find someone who is there very likely will be a trained professional there. Again I’m not discouraging someone from helping and there’s no one else around etc but just be aware that first aid is still medical treatment. And like any medical treatment things can go wrong. The more training someone has the less likely something will go wrong is ny point. If someone is gushing blood like of course put pressure on the wound until help arrives or help someone get to a safer place or give water etc. But I just keep seeing awful first aid treatment online lately and its not good. And please again just a general plea to the public anyone listening. Stop telling people to use tourniquets I’m begging at this point.

I keep saying it but it bears repeating, especially since white allies arent listening:

STOP. BRAGGING.

Stop trying to give credit to people on the front lines of these protests.

I need to stress this, you are doing the cops job for them.

Those masks you’re wearing at these protests? They’re not just to keep you from catching the rona. Its to conceal your identity.

And that entire purpose is destroyed the second you try to take or give credit for being on the front lines.

STOP. BRAGGING.

Cops are monitoring social media. The second you name someone on the ground, that person is now a target.

Now is NOT the time to be taking credit for your actions.

Keeping each other safe means keeping your mouth shut.

Do not name ANYONE on the front lines. Do not name ANYONE at the protests.

The ONLY exception to this rule is when you are outing a white supremacist or undercover cop trying to instigate more violence.

Do not name your fellow protestors. Don’t even discuss who may have done what. Stop doing the cops job for them.

Filling their snitch lines and apps with junk is great, but if you’re simultaneously going around and naming protestors, you’re not helping at all.

Stop. Bragging.

White allies, this is not the time to be taking credit.

THIS IS NOT A GAME!

Do you remember this man? Edward Crawford? He’s dead. They ruled it a suicide. Except he had four children, a new apartment, and a new job. His own father believes it wasn’t suicide. NBC quotes “It’s not the first time a notable Ferguson protester has died from gunfire.”. Darren Seals, a Ferguson protest leader, was found shot to death inside a burning car

They can and WILL find, murder, and cover up more Black bodies. Cop watch , know your rights,  FILM COPS, DO NOT POINT YOUR CAMERA AT PROTESTERS/THEIR FACES.

Excellent addition! Thank you for the links too.

Guys PLEASE. This isn’t the time. Anonymity is CRUCIAL. There is military personnel in the streets right now, you NEED to keep your mouths SHUT.

Stop naming protestors. Stop filming/photographing protestors faces. Learn to block out your photos and videos to conceal obvious characteristics like tattoos or unusual/noticeable hair styles/colours.

YOU NEED TO BE ANONYMOUS.

Please. Stop bragging.

On twitter I’m seeing dozens of threads from Black activists warning people against burnout, giving all sorts of useful tips about preventing and managing it for the sake of a long-term, sustainable effort.

On tumblr I’m seeing a hell of a lot of young white kids yelling at anyone who actually follows those steps, and acting like burnout is a moral falling rather than a well-proven psychological phenomenon.

Be careful who you get your information from. Don’t let guilt lead you to make choices that will harm both you and the movement.

I’m going to reblog this again since I see more individuals are inquiring about burnout prevention tips in the notes and it’s why I sought out this resource. I hope it helps you!
