How tf is March nearly upon us? Not to panic anybody but there’s only 300 days until Christmas.

But before that is the very first earth and sky week! I recognise it’s gonna be a heck of a month for a lot of people with exams, and lockdowns and life. So here’s the prompts in advance for every day of #Earth&Sky2021 in a hella cute infographic made by the hella cute @honeybee-hayes. Tyvm for the help, lil bro 💙

Please feel free to put your own spin on any of these prompts * and mix & match them to your heart’s desire. You don’t need to stick closely to them if nothing grabs ya. We’ve included different media types so there’s something every day for writers, gif-makers and artists alike. D/w too much about anything, the only rules are to create original content, and to enjoy yourself, and please maybe don’t kill a bro off, it’s Scott’s birthday, it’d make him sad.

As always, ask boxes are open or you can reply to this post if you have any questions. See you in the sky <333

* Day Four’s theme is Scene Unseen and the lil moments we didn’t get to see on screen during the episodes. AKA, what happened when Scott got back after TB2 crash landed in Earthbreaker? What else happened when they were at the ranch during Home on the Range? did Scott ever get to enjoy a nice bowl of popcorn and a movie after Chain Reaction? What didn’t we get to see when they took Gordon to hospital in SOS? How did Scott deal with Virgil’s jaunts into space during Impact & Long Haul?

Three week reminder, y’all

We’re nearly halfway through March, heck

"Hey, dad!" Scott jogs to catch up with his father, feeling all of five years old again when he had to run to keep up with those long strides, "Ya mind if I tag along?"

Slowing his movements down slightly so that his eldest son could match his pace, Jeff smiled at Scott.

“Of course son, you’re more than welcome to join me.” Pausing briefly Jeff let out a little chuckle. It was obvious what Scott was up to, but Jeff decided he would indulge his son. “I’m just heading to the kitchen to grab a fresh cup of coffee, do you want one?”

Jeff held up his empty cup towards Scott in a questioning manner. “Just don’t tell your brother… Virgil has been worrying about my caffeine intake since I got back from…” The words trailed off, mentioning the accident and the Oort Cloud was something Jeff was actively trying to avoid, as every time he did his sons got just a little bit more on edge. As if he was just going to vanish again.

“Woah there Alan.” Jeff chuckled as his youngest pulled him along towards the decking outside, away from where he had intended to go and be the one to make the hot beverages for them all. He was perfectly capable thank you very much, and he wanted to look after Alan… his baby boy, all grown up. Alan could now look after himself, that much was obvious, but the way Scott and Alan now interacted….
Jeff smiled sadly, he had missed so much in the eight years that had passed, and it was as clear as the stars in the sky that Alan idolized Scott looked up to him as a father. In his heart Jeff couldn’t fault his boys though, Scott had done amazingly well in raising Alan. “Slow down kiddo, while Scott goes to grab the drinks, you can tell me all about the hiding places Virgil thinks he has for his snacks.”
Even though the daylight was starting to wain, Jeff felt the eyes of his youngest son on him. he knew Scott and Alan were doing, hell all of them were in on it, they hadn’t let him alone since he got back on earth. Not that Jeff could blame them at all, he honestly didn’t want to be alone right now, he didn’t want to be alone again. He wouldn’t admit it out loud, let alone to one of his sons, but he was scared. Scared that he would lose them all again in a heart beat. Scared that he’d miss more.
Jeff squeezed his youngest hand a little tighter in his own, afraid to let go, “Say, Alan? What’s say you tell this old man of yours some of the things you’ve gotten up to since I’ve been gone ey?”

Alan flopped down on one of the sun lounger and motioned for his dad to sit on the one next to him. “Not much.” Alan shrugged. “I mean I had school work and training. I wasn’t allowed to go on a solo mission until about three and a half years ago?”

Alan pinched his lips closed a little. He wanted to tell his dad about all his adventures, but Scott had warned them a little about making him worry, though Alan didn’t quite understand why. They were all there and safe, what happened in the past didn’t really matter right? But he didn’t want to worry Scott and if he worried their Dad it would worry Scott so no talk about his near dive into the sun, or close escape on Eden, or even the tan he about got on Mercury, and then there was Mars, and Europa– Alan shook his head. “I mostly just go out on routine stuff. Supply, satellites losing orbit, space truckers out of gas. Boring stuff like that.”

Alan wasn’t looking at him. There was something on his mind. He’d had asked each of his brothers about it, but there was one perspective he hadn’t had yet. He’d been too young when their father had disappeared to really think about it, but after he had–well, it really made him wonder.

“What was mom like?” He looked up at his father quickly, before turning his head to look over at the pool and the light of the setting sun reflect off of it. “I mean, what kind of mom was she? Do you–do you think she’d be proud of me?”

Coffee?
Scott eyes the mug in his father’s grip. For a minute he’d thought - but no, the mug is actually empty and Scott knows the pain of that all too well from the days he couldn’t escape the desk in the comms room. If it wasn’t for MAX, there’d be a little path worn into the floorboards between the desk and the kitchen like a sheeptrack.
“Sure, you should’ve said, I’d have got you a fresh mug. I’ve got distracting Virg from the sound of the coffee grinder down to a fine art, you just gotta…” Scott’s own chuckle gets wedged in his throat at the reminder of precisely where he found his dad and why Virg was so worried about him in the first place.
“Y’know what, I fancy cocoa instead. How about that? When Virg goes food shopping for the island he gets these mini marshmallows and hides them on the bottom shelf where he thinks I can’t see.” Little brother uses them as a bribe, Scott remembers that too late so he just stops talking because he’s not sure what to say. He hasn’t been a son for a while. He’s been a replacement dad.
Old dusty memories of dad reminding him to “Stay where I can see ya.” come to mind and Scott always thought it sucked at the time because he’d wanted to explore that big wide world out there. But now he understands more than he ever thought possible. How the heck did dad ever manage to let any of them spread their wings and fly when Scott’s started to panic at the sight of an empty desk?
Scott managed to loosen his grip on Alan over the years. He can let dad go too, even if he still sees the footage from the Zero-X every night in his dreams. One finger at a time no matter how much it scares him.
“There’s a Tracy Industries board meeting coming up on the third, I promised I’d go after skipping out on the last one for an earthquake in Japan. Am I going, or you?” he offers. It’s weak but it’s the best he can do.

“Someone say cocoa? With the little marshmallows Virgil hides in the bottom cabinet?” Alan looked up from the screen of his tablet. He had been going between a new quest in Cavern Quest and looking at some of the universities he was interested in–something he should have been doing the past year or two, but it had been a bit busy with The Hood and all.

When he saw who was with Scott, however, his face cracked into an even bigger smile. “Hey, Dad!” It felt so weird saying it. He had called Scott dad a few times and that was both weird and natural all the same. It was the same now for their own father, but in a different way. His father had been gone for about half of his life, he had been starting to forget things about him, and while he had always hoped they’d find him, he couldn’t deny that a small part already believed that they wouldn’t.

But now. Now he was here. In the flesh, and there weren’t enough hours in the day or stars in the sky, for him to ask everything he wanted to ask.

“Are you taking a break from work? Why don’t we sit out on the deck? It’s a nice day–” Alan looked behind him at the fading light. “–er, evening.”  He smiled again, so big he had to close his eyes.

He jumped from his seat and closed the gap between them, taking his father’s hand and pulling him along. “Scott can get the cocoa and we can get a good seat.”

Dad?

In the weeks following their father’s return and Alan’s graduation Alan spent his free time looking into universities. His father wanted him to go off to school but Alan wanted to continue with online schooling–he didn’t want to leave IR and he liked learning at his own speed.
But he looked at both options as he did his research and wanted to talk a few things over with either his dad or Scott. One of them was bound to be in the lounge.
He was looking at his tablet when he walked into the room not really paying attention to who was in there. “Hey, Dad?”
 “Yes?”
It was the fact that two voices responded that stopped him dead in his tracks. “uhhh–”

Dad might be home where he belongs but that hasn’t freed Scott from all his responsibilities. He still leads International Rescue out on the field, takes care of his little brothers, and has his share of paperwork to complete because International Rescue eats through funds like Gordon at a taco stand. However it’s hardly a burden these days with their commander around to keep the weight off Scott’s shoulders. Scott glances over at him every now and then, still hardly able to believe that his dad’s home again after all this time.
He’s fifty-four columns deep into a spreadsheet so hideously complicated that John must’ve formatted it like that on purpose when he hears “Hey, Dad?”
“Yes?” Scott responds automatically, before his brain remembers that he’s not the one Alan means anymore. Dad’s a real, solid presence in their lives again instead of a memory going fuzzy round the edges. Alan won’t need a guardian to sign for him for much longer but when he does, it’ll be dad’s signature again instead of Scott’s and doesn’t that feel weird?
He doesn’t regret it, though. Not one moment of watching that little kid grow into a fine young man instead of spiralling off the rails like most kids in Alan’s position would’ve done.
So he chuckles despite the weird heartache and rubs the back of his neck, “What do you need, Al’? Wanna go check out a university somewhere?”

“Uh, yeah, kinda.” Alan looked back and forth between Scott and their father. He wasn’t sure who to actually ask his questions to. Scott had been his default go to for the past eight years, but now that their father was back--should he go to him instead? He didn’t want to upset either of the men so he stood kind of frozen in place unsure who to approach.

“I’ve kind of narrowed it down but was curious what you--guys--think.”

How sre you?

Hey! Not doing too bad. Just the same as usual, though still getting used to Dad being back! We’ve been talking about collage, I kind of want to wait a year and just enjoy work and stuff, but he wants me to get started right away. I dunno what I’m going to do, probably take some classes at least. Get those basics out of the way. What do you think I should do?

If it had been up to Alan, he would have been glued to his father's side. But he had been told that his father needed some space to readjust to life back on Earth. He understood why, but that didn't make it any easier to stay away from the man who had been gone for about half of his life. So many projects, papers, events, and missions he wanted to tell him about, but he'd been told not yet. So he sat on the edge of the lounge staring up at the stars the sounds of his family talking behind him.

Jeff politely made his excuses and softly approached his youngest son.

He tapped him on the shoulder blade, lightly to avoid making him jump.

“Beautiful night…” He smiled. “How about you and I take a walk?”

Avatar
Jeff laughed and ran a hand through his hair. “Well… I am a little greyer than I was back then. And I’m glad you’re not done growing yet. It means I didn’t completely miss it.”
He rested an arm around his son’s shoulders. “Why don’t you start at the beginning?”

The sparkle in Alan’s eyes flickered for a moment and he quickly looked down. He still had his smile, but it had faded quite a bit. “The beginning, huh. It–It was hard, ya know. I had just talked to you like a couple of days before, and then you were gone. I was already the kid without a mom, now I was without both. It just felt so unfair.”

He took in a deep breath and looked up at his father, his bright smile back. “But, I still had my family and they really stepped up. You’d be super proud of them, even Gordon.”

Jeff squeezed tighter at the mention of Lucille.

“I’m proud of all of you. I knew the older boys would take care of you but still - I’m also proud of how mature you’ve become.”

He smiled down at his youngest son. Not the baby anymore. “Your Mom would’ve been pretty impressed with you too.”

Alan’s smile got even brighter if it was possible. “Really? I wish I could remember her. She sounds pretty cool.”

Alan quieted down for a moment content in the thought that his parents were proud of him. But then he realized that his dad didn’t even know half--any of what he’d done since he’d been gone.

Alan jumped away from him, bouncing on his toes, “I gotta tell you about my first real mission! I went to the sun to help a miner but a solar flare zapped Three’s systems and I had to do a hard reboot but communications were still out and I had to use morse code like you made us learn so we could dock with the asteroid and we had to set off some explosives to keep us from going into the sun, but then we were going to slingshot around the sun and out into space!”

Regardless Alan did jump a little having been totally engrossed in the sky above and his own thoughts. “Are you up to it? Virgil said it would take awhile for you to be used to gravity again. I spent a month up on Five and slept for like two days after!” He smiled up at his dad.

“Oh, I’m sure I’ll be fine. Besides,” He shrugged. “I’ve never suited sitting still.”

“We can always take it slow. And there are plenty of spots I can rest if I need to!”

Alan’s smile faded just a fraction as he glanced behind him and into the lounge. With a nod from Virgil, Alan’s smile was back on and he nodded.

He made sure to let his father set the pace as they walked along one of the paths, the full moon lighting their way.

Alan was a little quiet, but not because of a lack of things to say. He’d open his mouth to talk, and then close it, his mind struggling to decide what to say first.

He stopped and when his dad stopped he wrapped his arms around his father in yet another hug. “I’ve missed you so, so much!”

Jeff squeezed his youngest son tightly. It had been Alan he’d been most worried about: to lose both parents at such a young age. He could see that the older boys had done a great job in taking care of him.

“I missed you too, partner. More than I can ever express.”

There were cicadas chirping from the jungle and a breeze on the back of his neck. It was these simple things that he’d forgotten he missed, which overwhelmed his senses in the most wonderful way.

“I was worried you might not recognise me!”

Alan loosened his hold only a little as he looked up at his dad. “You? I was afraid you wouldn’t recognize me! I mean, you’re not the one that spent the last eight years going through puberty.”

Alan laughed and fully pulled away from his dad. “I had hoped to gain some inches, though I guess I still could but I’m always going to be the squirt it seems. I was hoping to at least get some height over Gordon though.” Alan pouted a little, but it didn’t last long as he seemed unable to not smile.

“There’s so much I want to tell you! I don’t even know where to start!!”

*smiles blushing a little* thank you, it’s nice to meet you too! And i’m fine, thanks! *looks around her in a distant somewhere* are you bored? *after looking at something in the distance she looks at him with her purple eyes, smiling* If you want, we can do something..

Image

Oh? Uh, I wasn’t particularly bored or anything. *follows her gaze but doesn’t see anything* Did you have something in mind?

Yes, what about a classic prank? Or if you don’t want, you choose what to do *shrugs her shoulders looking at him, to then look again at someone in the distance, narrowing her eyes with a smile*

Image

“Uhh–” He once again tried to see what she was looking at but couldn’t quite pick it out. “Who would we prank?”

that girl over there *she said pointing at a girl about their age, with blond hair, walking alone* the more I look at her, the more I feel like she has something to hide, and something wrong too. So let’s make her a joke! *she said, changing the serious face she had not long ago with a laugh* we could do it, you know? or if just not- *she was interrupted by the blonde girl of before, who ran next to her pushing her accidentally and making her fall on the asphalt* what the f- ay! *shouted unnecessarily at the girl who had run away and then gave up. Suddenly she felt a sharp pain in her right hand, she found it difficult to get up, noticing just then that her hand was all bloody, having been practically scratched on the asphalt* well…damn. I guess I’ll have to go and wrap my hand…damn it…it hurts so much…*she said, holding her scratched hand with her good one, trying to give him a big smile. She then murmured something to herself with a concerned look on her face*

Image

“Why would you play a joke on someone you don’t even know.“ Alan turned to look a the girl she was pointing at, who was now walking their way. Sure, Alan loved to play pranks on his brothers but that was different, he knew them and knew just how far to take things--or not take things. It just wasn’t right to pick on some random stranger.

The encounter happened quickly, the blond haired girl seemed to be in a hurry. “Hey, you okay?” Alan knelt down and took her hand looking at it. “That could use a good cleaning. There’s a hospital down the road I can take you to if you want.”  He stood and held out his hand to help her up.
