forgive me for I am a city boy--how many goats should there be for a sustainable farm to exist?

I don’t know, son, but I would like a herd of goats and I would like to eat the goats and milk the goats and maybe shear the goats so would need more than one goat.

Need at least 2 goat. They are social herd animals. Preferably many goat, they are great.

Hey! So I was just wondering, I have a indoor cat in my household, who barely eats to the point its very worrisome. She was once a feral cat, who got caught and sent to the rescue we got her from. Now she's terrified of everyone and everything, she wont even step out onto the deck to get fresh air, and I really worry about her. I dont know if you can help, your one of the most helpful blogs i follow, so i just wanted to ask. Thanks!

Feral cats can be really difficult to work with, or rather, they can take a lot of time adjusting to a house cat life style. They usually need a lot of quiet and patience, and can take a long time to learn to trust their new people and new home. Not eating very well is concerning, since most (but not all) feral cats I’ve worked with tend to eat anything put in front of them. But they almost never eat while someone is around to see them do it. I would suggest giving her multiple options, probably a dry food and a wet food, and put it in a quiet, low traffic area of your house (a room that’s not used, or a closet even, where she can feel like she’s hiding while she’s back there). You may have to try several different flavors and brands of food until you find something appealing to her. Sometimes the type of bowl can be a bit of an issue, too, since feral cats aren’t always used to using a bowl. Try a shallow dish, or a plate even; something she doesn’t have to stick her head down into. Since she used to be feral, unless your deck is screened in and secure, I wouldn’t try to take her outside yet, in case she got started and tried to bolt. It would be better to make sure she’s completely comfortable and feels secure in her home, first. Adding lots of hiding places can help; cat trees that give her high vantage points, boxes she can lay in, etc. There’s also a product called feliway that might we worth looking into. I hear mixed opinions on it’s effectiveness, but it’s supposed to mimic pheromones that cats produce to make the space around them feel familiar and safe. I only mention it because at one point, my three cats that have lived together for 7 years without issue randomly started getting into a lot of fights that weren’t just play and we couldn’t figure out why, so as a last resort, we got the above linked product and saw a noticeable decline in fighting. It might be worth looking into. It would probably work best if you put it in the room where you’re putting her food.

But really, the best advice I can give is just to be patient with her. Don’t push her boundaries; let her hide is she wants, let her come to you if she wants to be petted, try not to make fast motions or loud noises around her that might startle her. Just try to make her a safe space and give her time.

I agree with all of this. Other ways to make her feel more comfortable with her space:

Keep her in one room of the house until she is comfortable eating and moving around in the space and then allow access to another room one at a time until you have expanded her “safe zone” to include the entire house

Lots of litter boxes, one in every major room will make her feel more comfortable

Lots of hiding spaces, boxes, kennels, closets. Lots of places to hide. My feral cats never seemed to want to be up high but liked to squeeze under my low bed or hang out in the bottom of my closet.

When you interact with her sit on the floor. Let her initiate contact and know that even if she only decides to lay down out in the open when you are in the same room, that is a big sign of comfort and trust.

Take it slow, feral cats can be a lot to handle and it can take a lot of time for them to feel comfortable. I would also suggest a visit to the vet to double check that her eating habits are due to her feeling unsafe and not a digestive or other health issue. Good luck with your kitty.

Ditto walking on her wheel!!! :D This is the second time today, both without treats. She kinda wishes there would be treats though. XD I forgot to bring some in with me. She’s doing so good though!! This is after only 10 days of having the wheel and we missed a couple days of working with her on it. She’s a smart, brave girl 💙

I love this, I could see devices like this helping lots people that have very high energy cats. Almost like those automatic ball launchers for dogs.

Need advice from fishblr

I have a 5 year old goldfish and I’m going to be moving soon.

The drive to my new place is about 3 hours, and I don’t have the ability to set up a tank and have it cycle before I arrive. I also don’t have the option to leave him behind, set up a tank, and retrieve him at a later date.

Is there a good way to transport him?

Ive also considered rehoming him, as my living situation is going to be changing quite a bit over the next year or so and I don’t want to keep moving him and stressing him out.

Any good suggestions?

You can take out all of your filter media and put it in a bucket or bag with tank water. As long as it stays wet the bacteria should live until you’re able to set your tank back up.

As for transporting the fish itself any decent sized container with a lid will suffice. I’ve heard that those home depot five gallon buckets with the screw on lids work best. You can just punch a few small air holes in the top.

I move my tank multiple times a year with a 6 hr drive between tank break down and set up. I have a guide that you can find under #moving tank.

Cuddly. Microsoft PowerPoint is very much against being held and pet but at night she likes to sleep with me. She will also permit me to rest a hand on her ( no petting just touching) and purr happily. Prince RoundBoy will headbut my hand all day, cry when he is alone and purr up a storm anytime he is getting any kind of attention. He prefers to sleep under the bed as far away from me as possible. But until he decides to go to sleep he will stretch out with MP and be a big goof.

At the vet with my fiancé’s dog. He seems to have a blockage and will probably require a very expensive surgery. Please pray.

Oh man this is gonna be a 1500$ vet visit.

Chief had his surgery. No physical blockage. His small intestine is so inflamed that nothing can move through it. They are giving him medication for that.

Waiting for the update on Chief this morning. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. My fiancé has already lost his beautiful dog Brandy to a thyroid attack last month and it would break his heart to lose Chief as well.

Called the vet yesterday. He is alert now but still has not eaten. We are taking this one day at a time hoping his gut will move. I’m going to try and visit him today, I’ll have a better update then.

I’ll be picking Chief up today! The vet says he is doing great.

Chief is doing much better! He is almost back to his regular diet ( we had to spoon feed him for a few days), his stitches are being removed today, and he is back to his cuddly self.

Cheif, my fiance’s beautiful Catahoula/ Mastiff mix, is currently at the vet. His small intestine is blocked by inflammation and he has not been able to eat for several days now. He is receiving treatment but we are having to take everything a day at a time as he has not made any major improvements. My fiance and I have enough to cover his initial diagnostic tests and exploratory surgery but the longer he stays at the vet the bigger the bill grows. He is a wonderful dog and since both of us have lost personal pets within the last month our hearts can’t bear to lose Chief as well.

I have set up a GoFundMe and would appreciate if you could donate or share this post. Thank You.
