"We wed on a fall morning. The smell of damp earth filled the small church. Her hands trembled in mine with what I thought to be excitement. Excitement for our union. Joy for our new future. It was all a blur until I was awakened by a pounding in my head and that same scent of earth. I was no longer swathed in the warmth of my bed and plunged into darkness. How curious is this? I do believe my blushing bride is burying me alive!"

“My lost lover’s locket returned to me on the anniversary of him vanishing. His picture seemingly torn out in a frenzy. With my face, 3 years younger, staring back to me. The scent of freshly turned soil and pine trees lingered in the room. My bedroom window had been left wide open — the moon shining back at me, full with a secret she refused to tell me.”

Awakening “I was laid to rest here. Mirrors covered. The sound of my mother’s sobbing rocking me gently into this place. I remember moonlit skin - cold and the color of starlight. Mesmerizing embers. Whispered questions and only the death rattle in my lungs to respond. A flame licking the inside of my chest. It burned me from the inside out - consuming every scream that wanted to burst from me. I remember stillness that night and the smell of iron filling my nose. I no longer wore the smell of death like a perfume — for I was something else now. I was awake.” 🕯 ——- Happy first of Halloween! I hope you enjoy these short snippets of writing and illustrations throughout the month. 🖤

“Where you go, I will always follow, Your Highness.”

Knight Bucky based on how I imagine him in @invisibleanonymousmonsters ‘s Heart of Steel , which I’ll say again, is so glorious and heart-wrenching I could always weep from it.
