taylor swift appears to experience this unique phenomenon wherein every 3-5 years people cycle through hating her so fucking much and then she transitions back into being the absolute miss americana sweetheart of pop music. we are now currently back in the “we hate her so fucking much” phase. not a single time in her entire career have i been influenced by this weird cycle and i don’t intend to start being influenced now

i think a huge and major part of this cycle is her level of popularity and exposure. As her popularity grows and everyone is seeing and hearing her everywhere all the time the vitriol and general annoyance grows. Whenever she goes away for a while and chills things out and strips her shit down people start liking her again and pretending they never hated her in the first place. like, i feel like taylor swifts version of this phenomenon is unique but the general ebb and flow of love and hate for public figures or celebrities when they’re female is not unique at all. the public is so easily influenced. some of y’all will fall in and out of love with any artist or celebrity if someone on social media makes you feel ashamed enough with a strongly worded post and words you have to google.
