Frozen drabble prompt word: "Safe"
"It's okay. You're okay. Breathe."
Anna was panting like she has been underwater for centuries and had just emerged on shore. She didn't mean to be so loud but she couldn't help it, and all she could hear in the bedroom now was her heavy breathing, covering Kristoff's reassuring voice and rubs against her back.
She didn't mean to be so dramatic about it. Why was she so dramatic about it? She was the Queen, for goodness' sake! She had to be an example of poise and--
"I can see you overthinking, feisty pants. Shh. Relax. It's okay. It's over. You're safe." Gently said Kristoff with a warm smile, keeping on rubbing her back.
Sometimes his fingers would be brushed by her long untied red mane, and he brushed her hair softly in the process. Her breathing calmed down little by little, and he was happy to have found that effective trigger.
"There's nothing to be sorry about." Smiled her husband.
"No, I mean..." She chuckled, glad Kristoff was such an amazing partner, and he grinned at her finally smiling after waking up from her nightmare, "I'm still doing that stupid dream..."
Kristoff sat upright now that she retrieved her normal state. "It's not something you do, rather something you're undergoing."
"...Undergoing?" Smirked Anna. "Look at how far Mister King has come. Picking up all the complex words."
He noticed that she was switching the topic, not in the mood to talk about how she once again dreamed of that dark cave.
"It's not that complex!" Replied Kristoff at her tease. "I just... Take notes during meetings that... May not just be linked to the meeting on itself. Diplomats have such ways to talk... Especially to you, to show off since the new economic plan."
Anna tilted her head tenderly, smiling at him in the moon light. "Yes, but no one in the whole kingdom is better than you to talk about ice harvesting, honey."
She was serious, and his instant blush was perceptible even in the dimmed room. Her smile grew.
"And to be honest, it's not just because you're an expert at it in general; there's something in the way you shut their mouths when they think they know about ice that is so amazing. Really, I never get tired of it. Their faces!"
Kristoff blushed at her compliment, but his cheeks soon stretched with a smirk. "Why do I hear "sexy" in that "amazing"?"
She scoffed, and he continued. "Well, the night is long, we still have time for some--"
She slapped his arm, not without a giggle, that he shared. "Don't! We have another important meeting tomorrow. I need to be in top form."
There was a silence as they laid back down, and Kristoff gently spooned her.
'Was today's meeting the reason of your nightmare, though?' Thought the King. He promised himself to not ask her as long as she didn't want to talk about it, but he still wondered.
One of the topics had been about Northuldra land protection, and she had noticed on the maps that the region in question was where the dark caves were, down the waterfall. It still triggered her at the sole mention, and he spooned her closer at the thought.
"You're safe." Simply whispered the man in her neck.
"I always am with you." She murmured back.
