i have fantasies where i slowly choke him with a spiky rope until hes just on the brink of death and i let him recover a minute before i go at it again and i do that over and over and over again until his body shuts down from exhaustion and then i feed his body to my backyard chickens for dinner ♡ #reducereuserecycle

Okay because I am angry about it I am going to debunk Elon's statements as much as I can.

"So you're actually proud of it." - Friendly reminder this is about saving lives. These people would've drowned if it wasn't for civil sea rescue (a whole other question is if it shouldn't be government responsibility to make sure people don't die at your coast; there was a brief moment where the Italian government was actually involved in sea rescue, an operation called "Mare Nostrum" but this has soon been replaced by efforts to "secure borders")

"I doubt that the majority of the German public supports this" - It does. We're talking about a dwindling support here since a shift to the political right can also be seen in Germany, but the support is there (60% in 2023, in comparison to 72% in 2019)

"Surely it is a violation of the sovereignty of Italy for Germany to transport vast numbers of illegal immigrants to Italian soil?" - Well the right-wing Italian government is gonna love this, since it plays into 1) the narrative of national sovereignty being threatened by EU regulations and 2) a majority of the migrants arriving in Italy being "illegal". I'm not a law expert but what I learned from my 2 seminars on migration law is this:

The most important document for refugee law is the Geneva Convention which is based on article 14 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution."

Everyone. No matter how your chances are, you have the right to ask for asylum. It is not illegal to ask for asylum. That also entitles you to the right that the request needs to be considered and that you cannot be send back to your home country if you haven't had the chance to request asylum (Frontex is known to do this nevertheless) and as long as your asylum application has not been rejected.

The other side of this is that Italy is making efforts to criminalize civil sea rescue operations, so that technically makes it illegal to rescue migrants in the mediterranean but this decree is heavily criticized by human rights organizations since it's probably going to cost a lot people's lives.

I'm not even bothering to comment on the invasion vibes bit which is completely tone-deaf considering the history of Germany in WWII.

Hmmm. Hasn't Tesla been in the news lately.

Last week it was reported by news magazine Stern that there have been a suspiciously high number of workplace injuries in the new Tesla factory in Grünheide, Germany. The screenshot is from spiegelonline, which should be available internationally.

Tesla themselves reported 190 accidents in just four months (June-November), more than two per workday! To put this into perspective: A workplace injury has to be reported if the affected worker has to take sick leave for 3 days or more. Or if they die. According to documents from emergency responders, there were 247 instances of ambulances or helicopters being called into the factory in the first year after the opening, almost one per workday. The reported injuries included very serious ones like severe burns by acid or hot metal, amputated limbs, a guy had a 50 kg wooden crate dropped on his head. Apparently no one has died yet, but it seems like only a matter of time.

Again, perspective: Similar factories by different manufacturers have a fraction of those numbers.

Working conditions in this place are so bad that up to 40% of the workforce are out sick at any given time. Instead of improving health and safety protocols, management reportedly pressures people on sick leave to come back to work.

And if that isn't enough, there were also 28 cases of "environmental incidents" as it is called, including spills of diesel and paint and 8 fires. In one year.

This is not normal.

The union already got involved, and Tesla refuses to comment on any of this. Unfortunately, they have support from high ranking politicians, including the minister president of Brandenburg (the head of the federal state the factory is located in). Because yk. A factory like this provides a huge boost to the economy of the surrounding region. There seems to be a general unwillingness to tell Tesla to cut that shit out, so we'll see how this develops I guess.

Just something to keep in mind when Musk opens his idiot mouth about Germany :)

(Note: I am not saying he's intentionally trying to bury the news. That's conspiratorial thinking. I'm sure he's a massive dickface authentically. But don't let antics like these distract you from the real damage this idiot is doing to people.)
